I use Fiskers round nose scissors.79 cents can be found in the kids toys.Nothing cuts braid better.

I have had a couple different ones. Here are the pros/cons of each.
1. Off set fire box, barrell type. Heat source: charcoal. The nice thing what that it was easy to control temps and I could smoke large amounts of food at once.
Cons: Charcoal is not free and there is the babysitting factor, mentioned above. If memory serves correctly, I would have to add charcoal every 45 minutes.
2. Vertical water smoker, heat source: charcoal.
Pros: smoked meat tasted awesome. Great flavor without drying out the meat.
Cons: limited real estate for food. adding charcoal is even more inconvenient that with the off-set box.
3. Gas Grill. My favorite and the only one that I use. I will soak chunks of wood in water and then put them directly on the rocks.
1. Pros:
-once you have adjusted the gas and lid (I will prop the lid open a few inches) you really don’t have to do anything.
-If you add chunks of wood every 1.5 hours, you get the same great smoky flavor as the other minutes.
– You only need one outdoor cooking appliance (assuming you already have a gas grill)
Cons: I can’t think of any.
Brian ( or anyone else) do you have any info on smaller lakes? Specifically pelican lake near brained. Ill be up there Saturday, should I bring my I e gear or not?
As long as they have the exact same item in stock they have always replaced it for me. No questions asked.
I love my iphone, but I’ve never had an android device.
The biggest factor for me is the durability. There is an Android device that is “ruggedized” (I think it is the commando). I got the the lifeproof case for my iphone, and it has been great. I can literally take in the pool. They are going to make a lifeproof case for the galaxy III s, but I don’t know when it will hit the market. You can buy lifeproof at best buy or at lifeproof.com.
Yes but be careful. I always wait until someone else has gone out first. Remember the thickness of ice will vary from one location to the next.

are you trying to join vanish to lead core? if that is the case, skip the swivel and tie a wilis knot. to tie the knot, remove the last few inches of lead from the outer sheath. slide the vanish into the sheath and then a simple overhand knot. if more strength is needed, tie a double or even triple overhand knot. the sheath will protect the vanish and the knots will always be tight.
x2!!
I caught some bullheads a few weeks ago and one of them was hooked pretty deep so I just cut the line and retied. Two days later the hook was lying at the bottom of the bait tank.
I know these are relative babies, but it was my first attempt at flatheads and I was excited that I could put 3 fish in the boat.
Also, I want to say thanks to all on IDO for sharing your hints. Everything from what bait to use (bull heads), how to keep them alive (going on 3 weeks now) and where to fish (P2).
When my mom passed away last year, my dad went through the attic and found a leather belt with my name stamped on it. I took it home and gave it to my 3 yo son. He loves the thing and wears it anytime he has belt loops on his pants.
I was given that belt when I was probably 5 or 6.

One thing I’ve learned about Mille Lacs over the last few years…..NEVER trust the predicted wind report! Seems every time I head up there it’s blowing 10-20 miles an hour more than forecasted. Must be the lake gods not wanting me there

Wow! I really appreciate such a thorough response. Of course it makes sense when you explain it that way.
Thanks!
I don’t have an answer to your question, but instead, I’ll add my own.
There are so many lakes with a stunted bluegill (or other species) populations, it seems we should be prohibiting catch and release.
This pic is from a private lake in Illinois that does just that and the population is anything but stunted. This pic shows all the fish from one outing and the smallest is about 5 in, and there are only a few of those. The majority of the fish are in the 7-8 in range. The biggest at 10 in.
Am I missing something? This policy seems to work pretty well. Why not duplicate it?
I bought a dozen there last week and they were fat and healthy. I didn’t use them all and they are still in the fridge doing just fine.

can you use the same knots as you would with Mono?
Yes. From what I have found and heard, any knot that is good for mono, will be good for flouro. For more info, check out: http://video.fishingclub.com/pages/knot-wars
I haven’t tried it yet, but I was recently given an old lazy ike and I have been meaning to give it a try. Maybe tonight.
The first photo is from a morning with 6 other guys (Keep in mind that releasing a gill is a violation on this lake, seriously)
The second is my 9″ pumpkinseed caught right in the metro.

Is there anything fun to do in the Sioux Narrows area with a toddler?
Trolling? An extra body in the boat means an extra line (or is it 2 in Canada?)
A simple easy switch is important for me. Some lights have 4 or 5 modes and you have to scroll through each of them, then if you scroll over the one you want, you have to do it all over again. I want three modes, red, bright white, and off.
Light weight is also important, plus everything that everyone else has mentioned.
Oh yeah, it has to be water proof.
I prefer fluro just because it is a more abrasion resistant and sinks.
thanks to all for the advice. I appreciate the support. If any others have still have recommendations, keep them coming.
thanks!
Neat story. It really shows how different the laws are state to state. If they had done the same thing several hundred miles north, they would be in a heap of trouble.
I found this interesting: “Average size is 3 to 10 pounds, though the fish can reach as much as 20 pounds”
I know they grow larger down south, but 10 lbs is not an average bass.
On Saturday I picked up a 15″ sauger on a jig and minnow in about 11 fow. What depth are you having the most luck?
There’s always craigslist, but you may also want to look at k-bid.com and 4-bid.com
Since they have made it this far, but their populations haven’t exploded like they have farther south, doesn’t it make you think that our climate just isn’t warm enough for them?
Personally, I like to spend a little more on the reel and get a cheaper rod. I’ve had my curado for 5 years now and it still works great.
I like the tourney trail rods at cabelas. They are on sale now for $50 and they have an unwritten lifetime guarantee. I just brought back a cabelas rod and they exchanged it, no questions asked.

Read this about St. Croix opener for MN residents:
http://stillwater.patch.com/articles/an-early-fishing-opener#photo-7620677
WI anglers fish on April 28th…
Not good for my guiding!!!
Turk
I also believe this is a misprint. If you scroll through the actual bill the only mention of changing the opener is:
” Sec. 81. FISHING OPENER; 2012.
37.25The 2012 open season for taking fish by angling shall begin on Saturday, May
37.265, 2012, for the taking of species that would otherwise begin on May 12, 2012, under
37.27Minnesota Statutes, section 97C.395, and rules of the commissioner of natural resources.”
I would agree that this doesn’t change anything that has already been printed in the reg’s concerning the St. Croix opener. IMHO
