RI killed me.. everything else was right there..May 13, 2009 at 2:36 am #776251This guy is incredible!! typical for modern people though always wanting something for nothing.. he was planning on making you regrade his yard all along. that is the way he wanted it and he thought that by letting you pile the dirt there that he could do it on your dime. Sell the house and move to a new subdivision with people that do not have a broomstick crammed up their [censored]. no matter what you do this guy is NEVER going to be happy and he is going to do everything in his power to feel uncomfortable or cause additional frustration for you.. I had a similar “dissagreement with the guy who lived behind me because he would spray roundup along his side fence lines and the overspray would considerably blow into my yard and kill my grass, top this off that I would step in a pile of dog crap from his dog every week when mowing my lawn. talked to him about it to no avail he was a real [censored] about it and was purposefuly less carefull after every conversation. then I spent about 25 bucks to solve the problem.I roundupped his entire back yard and piled all of the dogshit from my yard into a box and mailed it to his wife at home… No problems since and his new lawn looks a thousand times better than the old weed farm.. sometimes you have to fight fire with fire..the guy is still an [censored] though..

wait till you go and try and break it it is rediculous!!
sounds like a guitar string letting go!May 6, 2009 at 6:53 pm #774471regular fireline is twisted and fused out of a flat ribbon. hence you can see it going back to the “flat” ribon that it is made from after some time.. Thye NEW stuff is independedent strands diamond braided together. if you liked the old fireline you will not belive this stuff. no more noise going through the guides, casts a mile and is more limber than even light Mono. Try it you will love it.. I was avid original user and this stuff has solved all of my beefs with the old stuff. best line ive ever used.. and that noise it makes when you have to break one off is second to none, and almost worht the price of admission. there is also a rebate avlailible till september on it.. may have to go to berkleys web page to get the form though..
May 1, 2009 at 6:50 pm #773168a marine radio will definately last longer as the internal electronics are all coated with a waterproof coating. a regular car radio will typically last 3-5 years. but a marine radio will typically be mush longer.. I put in a sony deck and jbl speakers. this is a VERY good sounding setup.. a lot of the marine stuff sounds like garbage. tried 3 decks and about 5 different sets of speakers before I found good ones.. on the decks the BOSS stuff sucks and the speekers all suck accept the JBL make sure you get the ones with the seperat tweeter though as they are a VAST improvment over the cheaper ones..

I promise you will be impressed.
you can even get the deck with Ipod support now. I wired the wired remote over to the drivers station so I can control while I am driving.. I have put this setup in about 4 boats now and all have been over joyed..May 1, 2009 at 4:30 pm #773112Better discription here

May 29, 2008 at 3:18 am #688681MY 03′ fisherman has IPS 1 I think IPS 2 came out in 2006. it has an additional lifting strake on the hull you can readily see it from the front of the boat it is half way from the keel to the splash deflecting strake…
May 8, 2008 at 12:56 am #683525So about the same as my dealer oil change then?
nothing “wrong” with the etecs but they have some issues as well…
May 7, 2008 at 3:04 pm #683317One other thing.. at 30 bucks a gallon for the oil and a 100:1 mixture you are adding 30 cents to every gallon of gas you purchase. During “break in” it is 60cents..
May 7, 2008 at 2:54 pm #683308ALL motors should have the lower unit oil changed once a year preferably in the fall before putting it away to check for water that may have infiltrated through a bad lower unit seal. Have one freeze and crack the casing and you will never not change it again!
I pay 75 bucks for an oil change on my 4 stroke at the dealer, if I buy the stuff at the dealer and do it my self I am about 40 bucks. I change the oil once a year.
I am VERY curious what you E-tec guys pay for oil. My brother has a 150Etec and he goes through 3 gallons a year that is about 90 bucks in oil..
The E-tec does have a break in period but the motors computer handles all of it for you. Who cares about break-in anyway, I care how the motor is going to run long term. Do all of you “break in” your car and truck motors as directed by the MFG?
If you own an etec and have not replaced your plugs in 2 years you are missing a lot of performance that you had when the motor was new. My brother replaces his every year and the electrodes are considerably worn and the gaps are MUCH larger. Could you regap them and get some more time? Yes but why? Just replace them these motors eat plugs!
All you e-tec people should include your warranty service, Software updates as maintenance. My brothers boat has been in the shop 6 times in 3 years for warranty service. It did not cost him anything, and was not scheduled maintenance but it was time off the water.
I Have a 2004 Suzuki/Johnson four stroke 140 and it has been in the shop once since new for a fuel related problem. I just replaced my first set of plugs myself this year and I probably could have gone several more.. Other than that I take it in once a year for oil change and Lower unit oil change and 4-1 fuel stabilizer just before I put it up for the winter. The last few years I have done this my self it takes all of a half hour..
The Etec motors do not troll as efficiently as the 4 strokes. Your oil consumption will go up. And yes you can troll all day without the gage moving but I can troll for day’s without the gage moving.
You guys on here have got to stop comparing your old motors to the new motors there is no comparison. The new ones regardless of brand should be more reliable, cleaner burning, and use less gas and oil. The other thing is you guys that have had 3 Etecs are clearly richer than I as you are upgrading boats frequently. If you only have the motor for a year, what the heck do you know about it other than it was only in the shop 2 times in a year.
The Yamaha guys know the beef with their motor as well. It is a Heavy 4 stroke but performs well.. Weight is the biggest problem with them..
I have said this several times in other posts that you cannot compare 2 stroke and 4 stroke motors on a level playing field. Motors of equal HP will always “perform” better as a 2 stroke. There is less inertia as they don’t have valvetrains, and they have a power stroke every 2 strokes and the 4 strokes only have a power stroke 1 in 4 strokes. So of course they build RPM and torque faster and with less moving parts. This is why they are excellent small engines, performance per weight is very high… However, have you ever driven a 2 stroke car?
This is because the 4 stroke motors are much more refined, reliable and cleaner burning than the 2 strokes and the added weight in a car is irrelevant. The modern HP engines are all bordering on car size. Put an hour meter on your truck and see how many hours you get between tuneups, oil changes ect.. if you put 10,000 miles on your truck in a year and your average speed is 50 miles an hour you would put 200 hours on your truck.. Compare that to your boat and it should be similar.. Now compare all maintenance warranty service ect..
My Johnson Suzuki weighs 410 Lbs. I don’t need or have to fill an oil tank and I get a GPS 47MPH on my 1800 fisherman. My brother has the 150 E-tec and he is running 51 on the same boat. He is also not getting the gas mileage I am. He will beat me to plane and slowly pull ahead of me but I am NEVER the one that has to stop for gas. And I have towed his boat in more than once. Mine has NEVER been towed. I will never own anything but a Suzuki Motor they may be just a tick slower but absolutely bulletproof! I will take the reliability over a couple mils an hour or a half second getting on plane any day!!
