I use the American Angler electric knife as well. The main reason I do is because of the Shark Blade (the cheapest knives do not come with a Shark Blade). It works very well for me from panfish to walleyes. The biggest concern is the heating up of the motor. I have tried other knives but did not like the shorter and stiffer pointed blades that most come with. I could not flex them the way I like while cleaning panfish. I probably clean fish somewhat differently than some people, therefore requiring a more flexible blade.

I’m sure several companies make 4′ rods. For the last several years, I have used HT’s MicroMaster Super UltraLight 48″ rods (MM-48). They also come in a 4’6″ (MM-54)rod. I really enjoy using these rods as they have a light tip but plenty of backbone for panfish. In my opinion, a very fun rod to use.

I would check out ARIA, which is opening in December, and is found in the new City Center. They are running specials as I type.

I have seen this happening many hundreds of times over my fishing career. Mostly in the Spring and the Fall, up by the Dams. Fisherman (I use the word lightly), use stinger (I call them snag hooks) hooks and jerk rather violently and quickly, hoping to snag fish. I have watched many limits of fish put in the livewells this way.

I would like to see stinger hooks outlawed because one, they are not even used correctly and two because many of the snagged fish are kept. I do not really care if fisherman end up snagging fish accidentally, but then do not keep them. This has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time.

    If anyone is interested in one of these, I have one that has been used very little. I no longer have an ATV. I would be interested in selling it. My E-mail address is;

LAKE CITY — The Lake City Sportsman Club ice fishing contest will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Lake Pepin near the club’s clubhouse on the lower side of Lake City.

Entry fee is $5. The angler who registers the biggest fish will win $500. Any prizes not awarded to those who catch fish will be given out via a drawing.

Members of the club will drill a hole, or holes, for you when you decide where you want to fish. You can also buy bait, and food, on the lake or at the clubhouse.

    Brian,

The one I have is 4.0 pixels and does not have a display to look at the pictures it has taken, while in the field. I just take out the card and replace it with another.

They do make a 6.0 pixels which does have a display so you can look at your pictures in the field.

The 4.0 is $219 and the 6.0 is $299. These prices came from Cabelas.

It is time to go digital! Good Luck.

    LTT,
Hopefully, I will be able to get more detailed pictures of this nice buck. Until then, I will just have to guess how many points, etc.

    Lip,
I, too, have started using a Moultrie trail cam. They seem to be just as good (if not better) than any camera I have used. I really like them and you can’t beat the price.

I have basically used two knives during my 40 years of cleaning fish. They are, Chicago Cutlery and Dexter Russel Sani-safe knives. Both are excellent knives with steel that holds a sharp edge for a long time. Both of them are lifetime guarentees. Also, they do not cost an arm and a leg.

I was out today (Dresbach) and caught several short walleyes with a few sauger. I did manage 3 keeper walleyes. One of the males still had milt in it. On Tuesday, my partner and I caught 4 keeper walleyes (one about 20 inches) and they were all females with eggs. They were released.

All I have been doing is pitching plastics. I figure some walleyes have spawned while others have not. Keeper walleyes are hard to come by for me. There are lots of aggresive white bass to keeper ones interest up, though.

A lot of snaggers are out!

Thanks Don and James for sharing your expertise. I probably should do more vertical jigging, but I really enjoy pitching jigs(I seem more involved in trying to fool the fish). I can see now that I need to slow way down my presentation. I have never really just dragged a plastic on the bottom. What kind of a bite can you expect? A weight at the end of the line, a pick up, a tick, a thump or all four types bites?

I will certainly give all of your suggestions a try. Thank you.

I guess I should have stated that I would use it for bow hunting mainly.

I appreciate the input so far.

    Thank you.

I would love to see a slot limit (for walleyes and sauger) of some sort put on the UMR. While I agree that the fishery generly is in good shape, I believe that the increased pressure the river is seeing will eventually take a toll. If everyone practiced C & R, of course, there would not be a problem. Canada, Minnesota, and others have slot limits, why not the Mississippi River? Canada has all kinds of walleyes, yet they want to make sure it stays that way. I agree that if it is not broken, why fix it. However, I do think that we and nature can improve on what we already have and keep the UMR a vital fishery for generations.

There is not much more that I can say that has not already been said one way or the other. But, I never would have made my original post if all the facts, I now know, would have been in the LaCrosse Trib. article. Knowing these facts makes all the difference in the world about my feelings concerning the RCL tourney. Now, the only question I have left is, what is the real reason the tournament was cancelled? If, as you say, it was because of the possible damage to the fishery, then it was the right choice. If there was some other underlying reason we are not being told about, then it was a bad choice to cancel and I feel badly for all walleye anglers that were so looking forward to this tournament.
