March can be really good for big fish especially with the late spring. I would guess you could have some great fishing. I would recommend Long Cast guide service, Kevin Long. Fished with him a few years ago and caught the snot out of them with a 7# being the biggest, that was in February. He guides out of Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marina in Clewiston
February 9, 2014 at 7:49 pm #1387313Lots of good tips here! I have had some real good luck on Winni with Berkley Power Worms & GULP worms. Havn’t tried the Berkley GULP Alive Spinner Crawlers out there yet but they should be as good or better. One thing that makes a big difference is speed. Crank it up to 1.3-1.8 MPH

Here are some options.April 18, 2013 at 1:49 pm #1163661Any leeches or creek chubs coming out of the ground? Will travel for bait
April 15, 2013 at 12:03 pm #1162654It all comes down to your budget, if you can swing you want to go with the Elite 7. Those units are selling like crazy, its an all around great deal with the wide screen and having down imaging built right in. You will never be disappointed going with the bigger screen size, but both are great units
April 14, 2013 at 12:14 am #1162362I would recommend a Lowrance Lake Insight Pro 2013 for that unit, Navionics will work also but any lakemaster chip made after 2012 will NOT work in those units. All new cards come Micro SD with an adaptor.
April 9, 2013 at 12:11 am #1160592Looks like Krugerfarms.com has them. Largest rapala selection in the world!
January 17, 2013 at 2:29 pm #1131809I agree cup the best way to maintain vertical with the bowmount is to use short bursts. Anywhere from about half to full power depending on size of your boat, trolling motor ect. The thing I always tell people that makes all the difference is to watch the angle of your line. If its vertical you dont need to do anything but drift, if its angled out away from the boat point the bowmount that direction and give it a “burst”. Try not to overcorrect just give multiple shorts burts until your line comes back to vertical. Same if your line is going under the boat, point the motor that direction and give it a burst. Every situation is different with current speeds and wind direction, just keep an eye on the line angle and it will come natural in no time.
January 14, 2013 at 12:46 am #1130304Keep an eye out for floating ice chunks, they can be hard to see sometimes. Remember selective harvest and if your fishing in 30’+ reel them in slow or you may be feeding the eagles. Have fun be safe!
November 19, 2012 at 7:36 pm #1113347Check krugerfarms.com and look at the limited time offers. They had them on there for $90 off. I dont think there is anything wrong with them I think they are just noncurrent, they came out with a new series. I remember looking at them at the ice show last year looked like a nice set up
November 18, 2012 at 5:06 pm #1113162Assuming your talking about the white line, it looks to me that your transducer is tipped. The white line is showing your true bottom but part of your cone angle is hitting bottom sooner then the other half. It also looks to me that you are in mud with the colorline set to high. Check the ducer and play with sensativity and colorline
June 21, 2012 at 2:00 pm #1077687Tape up those little wires so they dont short together and put it anywhere you can hide it
April 30, 2012 at 1:25 pm #1063829When your in less then 10′ of water or so switch to 455khz you will notice a big difference. You want to be on 800kHz in deeper water. Your down image will not be as clear in 455 but your side scan will improve big time
April 13, 2012 at 2:43 am #1058527If you need a Stabil-Mount let me know, I’m not to far away from ya. You wont be dissapionted I can promise you that!
March 6, 2012 at 12:16 am #1046414Nice rig, welcome to the family! I think that E-Tec looks good on there……
February 21, 2012 at 9:16 pm #1041468I thought you were scared of the dark? You should be able to find one at any Gander, Cabelas, Boat Dealer etc.
February 7, 2012 at 12:13 am #1036132I have had good luck using the backet (LSS-1 SKIMMER MNT XDCR BRKT) I am able to read downscan till I get into the high 50 mph range. I have mine mounted (Ranger 620) on the bottom pad just like you would mount any other transducer. You need to stay away from anything that is going to create a disturbance in the water to get the best readings at high speeds.
February 6, 2012 at 11:49 pm #1036124You will need to edit your Overlay Data. You can move it anywhere on your screen, choose between 3 sizes, make it black or white and you can also choose “Bezel” which makes it white with a black box background making it easier to see.
January 31, 2012 at 2:16 pm #1033785Hey Al, one thing with linecounters to always remember is they are the most accurate when filled to thier capacity. This doesn’t mean so full that the line is hitting the levelwind but you do want to fill it so you can only see about 1/16″ or so of the spool. When spooling up with braid you don’t want to fill the whole spool of course, we would go broke, what I do is determine what would be the absolute most line I would ever have out. Keep in mind distance to lure or dipsy, and don’t forget to add some more of your running planer boards and then I also add some for re-tying when things get frayed. This is usually about 300-400 feet or 100-150yds. I then buy cheep monofiliment line of any brand, the idea is that you will never get down to that line, I usually use 10-12#. You can use bigger diameter to fill the spool easier but remember you need to tie a splice not that you dont want to get bulky. The next part is usually trial and error but fill the spool with the cheap line then add you 400′ of braid. The key though is to get the spool filled just right. Put plenty of backing on so you can unspool your braid if you get to full and take off some backing. I would recommed keeping notes on how much backing (zero the line counter) you used for when you need to do another reel.
January 29, 2012 at 6:40 pm #1033155Well I’m going to “cry” some more Sandman. Those numbers were pretty close to accurate when they were posted. Dan posts his every fishing move on facebook. I was disapointed to see that he said he was out even more time knowing that there were that many more walleyes knifed. I dont very often get involved in these kind of threads but when I see something this unethical going on I am going to speek up. This has nothing to do with Dans clients, its Dan himself that can’t resist filling the livewell every chance he gets. I know pretty much all the other guides on 3 and 4 and none of them are keeping there own limit everytime just to give them away. Of course they keep some now and then and of course there is nothing wrong with that. For those taking Dans side I don’t blame you he is a good guy and a great river rat, but the whole point of this is that those who have any respect for our resources dont want to see someone “gifting” as many fish as Dan has been over time. Keep in mind most of the people you give fish to don’t buy a fishing license, a boat, rods, reels, bait, tackle and so on they dont give back to the resource like we do when we purchase this kind of stuff. There is nothing wrong with some “gifting” to the needy or the elderly or of course there are always times when you owe someone something but keep it within reason one meal is enough to someone that has nothing invested. Lets keep in mind to that just because you throw back anyting over 17=18″ (Which is a great guideline) doesn’t mean its ok to keep as many as you can everytime. Its kind of like Quality Deer Managment, let the little ones go so they can grow. We all enjoy battling a big fish, the more fish that are taken out of our waters decreases our chances of doing that. Bottom line here is that River Dan has been keep more fish then what is considered ethical. Nobody wants to see someone setting a bad example on these public sites. And lastly keep in mind that all of us that have spoken our minds about this issue are doing it because we care about our resources not because we don’t like this guy or that guy.
I’m done…I think…..Dan good luck out there man but keep this stuff in mindJanuary 29, 2012 at 2:18 am #1033028Yes you could choose which transducer you want to use, either unit can run off of either transducer. Also when connected via ethernet you can syncronize waypoints/trails, and it will also let you display Structure Scan, Radar, or Sirius Weather on both units if you add those in the future.

I will start by saying that I don’t have any problem with a limit being kept. I don’t have a problem with guides guiding clients to limits. I don’t have a problem with fishing all the time and I wish I could. I don’t even have much of a problem with lousy pics of dead fish. I also applaud RiverDan for not keeping anything over 17″. I do have a problem with one individual harvesting over 100 walleyes and saugers in a month. What is the real number? Not sure. But from the evidence that RiverDan supplies us 100 looks to be a reasonable estimate.
That is and has been my beef. And this post is the one I should have made in the beginning and left it at that.Joel
Very well said Joel, some people need to learn to obey ethics as well as the laws.
January 27, 2012 at 2:08 am #1032466Well I hate to call you out Dan but I too think that you are taking more than you should be. I know your a good guy and you donate most of your fish and thats great but you need to draw the line somewhere. You said “90% of my trips I’m guiding people” well I have been following you and I know this is far from the truth. I dont look down on guides that let thier clients keep a limit thats your job but the guide doesn’t need to keep his everytime too. Here are your stats since January 2nd; You have fished pool 4 ten times (not including today), your boat has kept its legal limit every time, your boat has brought in 96 walleye/sauger, of those 10 days you were by yourself not guiding 5 times, at least 3 and maybe all of the other days you were not guiding you were with your buddys. I would imagine you broke the 100 fish mark tonight. I don’t think you should be trying to feed the world at pool 4’s expense. Just my opinion
January 19, 2012 at 5:04 pm #1029990There was a truck that went in on Monday night. We could see the lights from the emergency vehicles that night and later found out it was a truck that went in. From what I could gather they were striaght out of Barnacles and if it was 2.5 miles they were asking for it. I had a friend try to get to the mud (on 4-wheeler)on Monday and they could get about 150′ from East Flat before they ran into 1-2 inches of ice and even some open water. It’s going to be bad news if people start trying to fish the mudflats, it’s all going to freeze over and look the same from on top of the ice.
January 19, 2012 at 4:54 pm #1029978You are exactly right when you say “because of the new Gen2 Series” They are trying to clean out all inventory of there HDS Gen1 units. There are still more HDS7s available than the other HDS’s simply because they made that many more of them. The HDS7 is a big seller because of the price difference when you go up to an 8 or 10. Now would be a great time to pick one up, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these units they are just non-current. There were a couple things that needed to be ironed out when they first launched HDS but for the past couple years they have been pretty flawless.
