I will be at West Wind from June 3rd – June 6th. This will be my 2nd time at West Wind. I am curious as to how the bite will differ from last year. Last year=early spring, this year=not so much.

March 6, 2009 at 9:45 pm #755731Every day for the past two weeks I have been drawn to this post, reading it typically with a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. As a father to a 5 year old beautiful little girl, and a spunky 18 mo old little boy, I found myself imagining what hell my life would be to go through what you did, not being able to speak to my daughter. That is the best part of my day, is hearing her say “Daddy’s Home” when I come home from work. Even more saddning is having your little girl going through that wishing every minute if I could somehow take the sickess away I would. Every day I rushed to read this post waiting to hear the news that she opened her eyes and she was just fine. Today is that day, I know she probably has a long way to go..but hearing that she was watching Little Mermain almost brought me to tears.
I will continue to pray for your little girl and I know everything will work out.
I want to thank you for sharing your experience with us. I took so much away from your experience and really feel closer to my kids.

June 13, 2007 at 3:02 pm #580208As boat salesman knows, that bridge from Cross to Rush is right next to the Ye Ole Wharf resturant which on weekends that area is like grand central station. There are hundreds if not thousands of boats that pass through that area from before sun up to well after bar close, including some monster power boats probably well in to the 30 foot range. Not the greatest place to try and fish on a weekend, although it still is one of the better walleye spots on the liake Grew up on that lake years ago when a 21 foot speed boat was a “monster” and fishing out of a 14 foot green crestliner with a 9.9 motor was the norm. Now you get laughed at for a boat that size. Anyway…don’t know other area lakes all too well, but my advice would be to fish Upper Whitefish..(Well away from the bars/big boats). There are many great places to fish in UW!

January 3, 2007 at 10:52 pm #518091Hawaii is hands down the best place I have been to…pretty expensive though. I was at Moon Palace in Cancun in October. $1687 for 2 people, All Inclusive for 7 days. Booze, food and tipping is all included in that price. Moon Palace was very nice…plus it has a Jack Nicklaus Golf course on site, $250 a round or free if you sit through the timeshare presentation.

June 2, 2006 at 6:11 pm #451031My golden has seizures and I have done some research on it. Couple of things…when a dog has a prolonged seizure the muscle spasms will cause a dogs core body temperature to rise and in some extreme cases can cause heat stroke. The anti-seizure medicine works wonders but causes great strain on the dog’s liver. So basically, if the dog is having in-frequent, short, seizures the anti-seizure medicine will do more harm then the actual seizure. A couple of things to do now that your dog is having seizures. Call your breeder. Seizures are genetic; your breeder will want to know that once of his pups is having seizures. If he is a good breeder he will try and find parent with the gene and remove him/her from the breeding pool. Another thing is to document each seizure. Record exact time and what the dog was doing that day and days prior. With my dog, they seem to happen only in the summer, preceded by a few days of inactivity. They become somewhat predictable also, in humans with epilepsy, they can feel a seizure coming on, so can dogs…they will either attach them self to the master or in some cases they tend to hide,(sleeping/laying in places they typically would never go). For my dog it is our walk in closet.
As far as the water goes….I am pretty sure I read that if there is any oxygen depletion the brain automatically signals the seizure to stop. But don’t quote me on that.
If you have other questions, please ask.
April 3, 2006 at 6:04 pm #435438How about the Lakeville Mn area? My garage floor has cracked most of the way across(even with the rear tires of my cars) and sank a little. I would imagine that about half of the floor would need to be removed, the area below built back up and then new concrete poured. Let me know.

December 19, 2005 at 9:36 pm #405241We used to do something similar to that when I was in elementary school. Do a bunch of jumping jacks to get your breathing up, hold your breath and then somebody would give you a bear hug until you passed out….
Looking back you are exactly right…How stupid were we?
Talk to you kids!

October 11, 2005 at 5:04 pm #389171It is hard to compare becuase everybody might have different coverage limits, different deductibles, free rental cars, glass coverage, under insured motorist coverage, etc….Fact is that you drive 2 new 4 wheel drive(which they charge you more for because 4X4’s are more expensive to fix if in an accident) and the rate you pay is about right in my mind. Also, just remember you get what you pay for…if you go with a no name that is half the price of a reputable known insurance company, expect half of the customer service when you need them most.

August 22, 2005 at 7:47 pm #379667I have a newer coleman spot light that when the battery is completely dead, needs 12 hours of charging before it will even start to light the bulb. According to the manual, it needs 18 hours to be fully charged. Does it need more charging time?

March 28, 2005 at 9:43 pm #352949Great, thanks! Also, couldn’t agree more….although some of the new “scented” plastics leave a little stink on the fingers.
Wish me luck tomorrow….wouldn’t mind CPR’ing a 13.3 just like Stanman…

March 21, 2005 at 5:54 pm #351207Guys, funny this thread is going today…over the weekend my garage floor kind of buckled. Basically the cement floor cracked and sank a little underneath the rear tires of both my vehicles…so now I have a little pooling water effect. Could this be mudJacked? About how much to re-concrete the entire floor?(3 car garage)
Thanks,

March 3, 2005 at 6:36 pm #346817I bought a whole new swing tounge piece for my trailer, that was factory made. Cost $100 This tounge is a 6 foot piece that goes from the very tip(coupling) to past where the trailer starts to Y out. There were a couple of bolts near the Y area which I needed to remove. I had to cut off the trailer wiring harness, and feed the wires out. Installed the new swing tounge, and fed the wires back through and then reinstalled the coupling, saftey chains, and wiring harness. Long story, longer…check with the trailer manufacturer..they may make a swing tounge for your trailer.

January 6, 2005 at 6:09 pm #335119Notice too a lot of those picture are taken with the fishermen in the water….I am sorry, after seeing pictures of the fish after the snakehead got ’em I don’t think I will be standing waist deep in water..if you catch my drift..
September 3, 2004 at 6:57 pm #319990How is that for good timing. I will be out chasing muskies too on Indy tomorrow and Sunday. I am staying at the campground and hope to get out and chase some muskies. Last time on Indy, boated a 37 and a 42. The 37 on a figure 8 on about the 6th cast that morning..and the 42 trolling(after getting tired of casting). Green/White Caravelle Fish and Ski…Give a waive.

August 4, 2004 at 6:44 pm #315436I know my old man is looking for a seasonal type resort. He is not sure whether he wants to buy a new trailer and find a spot to put it or buy an existing trailer already in a resort somewhere. We have some family that has a trailer up there at a resort and we might go and see it sometime soon. While we are there what is our best bet to find lots/trailers for sale? Just take the boat and drive to each one and check them out or is there a local publication that has classifieds?
So when you say river portions of the lake, you mean there are no resorts on any of the 13 lakes? Just cabins on the lake, and resorts on the sauk river inlet/outlet? How easy is it to navigate to the chain from the sauk river?
Nice to see it is good fishing…
Thanks for the info!!!!!

August 4, 2004 at 5:31 pm #315415Scott,
My old man is looking at buying a trailer at one of the resorts on the Horseshoe chain. Are there any websites that you know of that show some of the resorts and some of the trailers/lots that might be for sale at said resort?
Thanks,
Fishandski…….
P.S. I don’t know much about the chain…how is the fishing. How is the recreational traffic?

You would hope the adults were taking the kids fishing for the fun and not for the meat aspect of it. Besides, who in their right mind would want to clean 400 or so fish?
Not all people actually fillet the fish. Some people/cultures cook the fish whole, put them in stew, bake them, etc..I have even heard some bury the whole fish in underground pits and let them bake/rot and then put them in stew. (gross). Anyway..taking overlimits/breaking the rules to get limits is becomming a real problem and needs to be dealt with!!!

June 18, 2004 at 8:09 pm #309253Thanks for the info…I decided to get him a different gift…Maybe someday I will pull the trigger and get a guide to show me pool 4 but as one poster said, it is hard to spend the money when I myself have a boat and should be able to find some fish…(probably not like a guide) but half the fun is the learning process.
Thanks,

Tournaments have made the economy alot better for these towns where they are at. Thanks, Bill
I am going to partially disagree with this statement. In some cities where tournaments are held, the regular joe average and his family sometimes decide to go elsewhere when a tourney is in town. I know I have done it. In some instances the tourney fishermen and women just take the place of the would be tourist, not add to it. I am not a big fan of tournaments, and I don’t feel that any special treatment should be given to them via relaxed regulations.
Sorry, just my opinion

March 12, 2004 at 5:03 pm #296456My grandparents had a cabin on Cross Lake also. I am heading to the Whitefish chain for Opener on May 15th. Wouldn’t mind getting some hints. I have never made the treck to the pine river inlet in Upper Whitefish. I heard that this area is a good area for eye’s around opener?!? Any advise on early season walleye areas???
