It is very easy to get a “standard” driver’s license or ID card in Mn. If you don’t have a valid photo ID or document with name/date of birth, all you need is a social security card. I have a friend who scraps cars, he has found dozens of SS cards, often several in a vehicle. He has contacted various government offices about the cards, never had a reply. Now he burns them. The absence of the firearms endorsement on my driver’s license, may also be an issue when purchasing out of state hunting licenses. The license bureau told me I had to call the DNR, they(DNR) couldn’t even find my firearms instructor status. I have to call Camp Ripley today. All of this is to allow non citizens(Minnesota) to vote in local(state) elections.

My take on Mn Fish— zero replies to my calls/emails about the MN regional invasive species program. No way to determine where membership money has been used (other than tables at shows). Just like every lake association fundraiser– a lot of anglers have supported. Only to find out the public waters will be privatized, “to protect the lakes”.

Mn Fish doesn’t even return phone calls about the regional inspection subject. One line or spider rigs legal, when they close public landings because the lake contains an invasive species(grassroots agenda #8 for MN COLA), your fishing is done.

Mn COLA is the organization that is lobbying for “regional inspection” . Grass roots agenda point 8, closing public accesses. I have sat in one of the Mn COLA meetings, this group is directing numerous lake property owners associations to advocate their counties to start regional inspections. They will publicly deny they support restricting public access, but the truth is they believe any public launch boating activity on “their” lakes are intrusive. These organizations have convinced enough members that “their lake values”($) will decrease due to invasive species. The local level lake associations have a lot of money(thru fundraisers, please be aware of these activities and not contribute) and also carry legal insurance to protect their “war chest” from lawsuits. I have volunteered my time to factually inform our elected representatives on this situation.

The regional inspection program is NOT a Wright CO. idea. It is a concept that lake associations(with lots of donation dollars) hatched with DNR employees; Under the false narrative of being “more cost Effective at saving our lakes”. This program is neither more cost effective providing inspections or protecting lakes from invasive species. The lakes in the program are source lakes(already have invasive species present). This is only about limiting access to public waters, if an individual is prevented in anyway from accessing public lands or waters to Lawfully take or pursuit of fish or game it is harassment(a misdemeanor) under state statue. I am just not sure who you would charge? Board members who voted in the ordinance? The DNR knows that limiting lawful access is illegal?

I just came across some early 90’s pictures, one of a buddy walking back to the shoreline of a remote Canadian lake. Not sure if the look on his face is the emergency shore run, with tp, went well or the fact we did not leave him. He had asked to go back to camp but finally went ashore after we told him it was 1/2 hour back(15 hp) and a promise not to leave. always carry tp.

Saw some drone video from Sunday, small open water at creek mouths. Maybe Easter if rain and warm winds.

Reads to me that Wright Co. can continue the 3 lake regional inspections/decontamination station. By amending the new plan back to 2018 plan(3 lakes). They will have to have a hearing if the ordinance fine structure remains in place(2019 plan). If another hearing is held we need to over fill with individuals opposing the plan, so far the Wright Co and the Mn DNR have only tried to appease the Lake shore owners associations. I firmly believe the DNR did not address the public waters/public access issue at all. The DNR wants regional inspections.

My small deer camp(3) all have the 220. We have either 3-9 or 2-7 power scopes. I shot 4 different brands and both 2 3/4 and 3″ Hornady, Remington and Federal all shot into same 1-2 moa group at 100 yards. Hornady and Remington were more consistent, Winchester only one that grouped to a different poi(only about 1″ away). could interchange any of these out to 125 yards. for longer shots a rangefinder is required as the drop becomes greater, these are still shotgun slugs not rifles. I would limit shots to distance you have actually practiced at.

I was out to Chamberlain 3/26-3/28. River was still mostly ice from Crow Creek and south. Water temps 32.2-.4. River stage passed minor flood stage while we were there (65). boat landings were being closed or not useable. However fishing was good, bite was not aggressive. I looked today and water stage leveled out at just over 67, looks like it may begin to trend downward if flooding downstream continues to lower. I believe both the corps and the SDGFP would like to see the water stage lower before stabilizing it for the walleye spawn/incubation period. Big Bend water temps still in 35 range. I don’t believe the spawn will begin before April 15.

Vague wording leaves law enforcement flexibility, if you are not selling fish privately odds are no one ever is going to check your freezer or canning shelves. Only keep what you can use, check consumption guidelines for the waters you fish.

5 million in taxpayer funds were allocated based on a computer model that predicted lower operating costs{inspections done regionally}. The lake property owners assocations picked up on this as a means of furthering a restricted access agenda. A business provides inspectors and bills the county 19.15/hour, which is more then state or surrounding counties pay inspectors. 92% + watercraft pass inspection, I could not get the information on how the courtesy decontams are counted(pass or fail), as these should count as a pass as the operator understood the watercraft needed cleaning(or just wanted a “free” boat wash). The real issue I have with this is the pelagic form of these invertebrates and plants being “visually and tactile” inspected for are not large enough to be seen or felt, under 20 microns. So it comes down to is there mud or visible plant matter on the boat or trailer? Do you want to spend millions of our tax payments and user fees to have regional hotwater boat washers? No models have been ran that take in the additional miles of travel(gas/diesel fuel vehicle use) that most regional stations would require.

I attended the March 19th hearing, I also went to the Mn COLA meeting held at the courthouse, public building they could not keep me out. Surprising that Mn COLA would have a meeting(10am start- adjourn for the hearing). What I learned is that Stearns, Ottertail,Crow wing, Hennepin co. and others lake associations are very well supported. Hundreds of thousands of dollars. All are standing behind the Wright co ordinance. When they asked me about the self inspection(they are NOT supporting it) I pointed out that law enforcement would have to self inspect, or return to the inspection site before continuing patrol on other ordinance covered lakes. They brushed that off as not an issue. Also when I pointed out that this by (DNR directives include-be more cost effective and NOT limit public access) several board members loudly protested my remarks. The Mn COLA board see this as a test case for all other Co. All most all the general remarks revolve around “how busy our lake is”.

All the global warming, proceeded by global cooling, climate change(global warming didn’t last) arguments are based on computer modeling. If you want to make money, garner research funds from taxpayers. Just write a computer program(or a movie script) that predicts an unpredictable natural disaster. Doesn’t matter if actual record keeping exists to support “your research”. Just tell the story enough times and some will believe. The Sun warms our planet.

The latest research from TSE specialist Dr. Bastion links CWD with spiralplasma bacteria. It was announced at a Pennsylvania Game and fish meeting. If true, a vaccine and field test(for hunters to check harvested deer) will be available soon. The Pennsylvania GF is working to save the elk and deer(wild and captive).
