They work great for picky blue gills but they are kind of fragile so you will prolly need to experiment with how to hook them. Are you sharing where he got them?

Sorry he doesn’t tell me anything on where he gets his stuff. I suppose he is just protecting his investments..Wish I knew..

Congrats to the hunter. I was lucky enough to see that buck on the hoof. He was hanging with a few other bucks in late summer by the Cream church in Buffalo Cty. Tom Indrebo from Bluff Country Outfitters gave my nephews and I the tip he was there. What a sight to see. Tom’s son Shane took the pictures. He is an artist with the camera. Again, congrats to the hunter. Thanks for sharing the pictures Brad.

The good ol cream church…Played many football and baseball games there and shot some pretty nice bucks in that area. Uncle had over 900 acres there… Great place to grow up at..

Valerio, the one sitting in the picure amongst the three is the owner and operator of the one and only bowhunting websites in italy. Feel free to stop on their website and check them out.

    an additional note….

My heart was actually pounding for 12 minutes. That deer really took his time coming in. I had him on camera for 12 minutes from start to shot. I pulled a lot of it out otherwise it would of been really boring. I just wished I could of moved to zoom in and out with him their that long…

    Cool video.

Did you shoot that deer off the same trail you walked in on?

How did you flim yourself walking in? Set the camera on a tripod, walk in, climb up, climb down, walk back and get the camera?

Yep, shot if off the same trail I walked in on. I put some doe estrus on the bottom of my feet when I walked in hoping to get a deer crossing that logging road turned my way. I also did some rattling sequences just before that so I am sure he came in curious and alert…

I did what are called cut aways. After the hunt I went back and self filmed my self off a tri pod. Everything else was just editing. I did a walk in cut, road cut, drive up cut and etc… Most shows are made that way. They doing some filming before the hunt but most of it is made after the kill is done.

Jarrad, Cool video. I am thinking about starting to video. How did you learn to edit and what kind of software do you use for editing? What kind of camera did you use? I was looking at getting a GSL.

Right now I use a Sony DCR-VX2100. However that camera just hit the ground the other night from the tree and is not working. So, I am upgrading to a Sony HD camera. Sony’s have the best camera light during low light conditions when most activity is. Canon’s are great camera’s to but are horribly during low light.

I am just using the Windows movie maker right now. Upgrading to final cut pro shortly.

I learned to edit all on my own, whilte sitting at the computer, when I was bored, trying to figure it out. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to put that video together when it use to take me two days. Also a few of my buddies work for shows on the pursuit channel, versus, and a couple others. Look for us on pursuit channel soon…

It should be fun this Gun season also. We have a proffesional TV show coming in our camp and they will filming Austin and I for hopefully his first buck kill ever. Can’t wait! Don’t tell him though.. It will be story driven vs. kill drivin, the way hunting should be.

Thanks all! I was a very moving moment for me. I didn’t actually shed a tear until I made the video and could reflect on the day. I have watched it everyday since and brings a smile to me everytime. I thought it was neat that I didn’t tell him one word to say and didn’t want to influence any of his reactions because I wanted it as real as I could get it.

This was onee of the proudest moments for me as a father. I had only drawn us together that much more….

I totally agree with a Chris. I have recieved hand written letters stating that I too have started all this and told me that I should watch my back.A threat that I could take to court becuase I am 100% sure know who wrote the letters. Is it worth it, dont think so. All I am trying to do is follow the rules. I even called every guide in the area and told them if they know any guides to have them come to a class I had set up in Alma. Dustin Stewart, James Holst, Lorren Waalken, Myself, my dad, Greg Vandemark, John Stears, Marty Hahn were some of the locals that took the class with me. We all thought it was important to follow the new rules. Did we like it, NO. But it was we had to do. Times are changing and new changes are always hard.

Honestly, I think the reason they do this is to keep track of the income that part time and full time guides make. With more info in the federal system they can take part of it especially since you are on a Federal Waterway or Public fishing area. There is also a big crack down within the state of outfitter and guides not filing sales tax forms. Anyone that has a website, advertises, and etc. will be getting called. A new person was just hired to start taking a look at all outfitters and guides. This is why I started a LLC Corporation for my guiding and outfitting. I can log right onto their system and report all earning and etc..plus protect my rear with a LLC and not have my persnnel assest invovled.

For and example this is what happened this weekend.

The coast guard was checking a lot of the boats during the derby in Algoma this last weekend. One of the boats didn’t have the appropriate safety equipment. He was hulled off in handcuffs and will fined. Not sure what the fine will be but each offense can reach up to $10,000.

Please post all your concerns here. I will be meeting with the Refuge and Licensing committee aug 12. We’d also love to hear more about your concerns regarding licensed guides on the refuge. That is a another area of concern for guides. If you are guiding in refuge area you will have to apply for a permit.

One other thing that is done is a very extensive background check. If one has any criminal background, DWI/OWI, felonies, speeding tickets, misdameanors you will go through a very hard time trying to get the license. One guy I know was a trouble maker in his younger days had a very very hard time getting his license. He had to prove he wasn’t like that anymore after 20 years of being good.

The physical is pretty eloborate to, if you have any kind of medical conditions at all. Two guys in our class had bits of problems obtaining the license and almost gave up on it becuase of physical condition. One had heart problems(controlled though) and the other had diabetic problems. If insurance won’t pay for the physical you could have more cost. The guy who had diabetic problems spent almost $2000 on his physical. He got his Captains license but has no quit because of all the requirements.

Once all the information is required the next step is to send it into the Coast Guard Office. This is where the fun starts. If you don’t have all the T’s crossed and I’s dotted, and put in the right order, it will be sent back for you to do all over again.

Plus you have to get sworen in as well. This is about a 3 hours ride to Duluth for me for 30 seconds.

It tooks quite a few of us almost a year to get everything done.

Also remember those that guide in Wisconsin, AND WISCONSIN WATERS, must have a State of Wisconsin guide licenes in addition to all the other requirements. I was told even if you are a resident in Minnesota you need a Wisconsin guide license to fish the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River.

One other fact they mentioned, businesses, chambers of commerce and web sites that promote guides, charter services and outfitters that don’t hold the appropriate licences could be held liable if there was a fatality or accident. I asked why outfitters and they mentioned that if you are guiding ducks/geese, and if the water is accesible by federal waterway you will need a captains license to be on it outfitting/guiding. Even if that water is inland waters and coast guard can get to it off the federal waterway you will need appropriate license.

I got a call from them a couple weeks ago and asking for names and numbers of people operating and advertising for guiding. They told me they will probably start using under cover agents to start cracking down. Hopefully, they will finally do something about it. They also said there will not be playing the loop hole games either, “No parking lot seminars, and then go fishing.” Glad my dad and I got our stuff done 5 years ago…and better have all you t’s crossed and i’s dotted.

I saw two paddlefish the other day near maiden rock( not that I would ever fish that area ) and both had their tails cut off. Looked pretty clean cut…
