…but I would not recommend walking around that area after dark. There’s not much to do in walking distance anyway, but just a heads up.
I respectfully disagree. Turf club, Midway saloon, Ax Man surplus are very close/nearby along with other places. I lived in the area and it’s diverse, not dangerous, especially on game nights with how much police presence is there.
Agree with dressing for weather and a flask. We were there for the international game last winter where the opposing team challenged the win due to hypothermia. Cold, but it was a blast!
Nice report. Will probably swing by tomorrow with the kids and dogs to test out the new tm battery setup.
Havent heard great things about LiTime’s bluetooth app, but I still wouldn’t buy a lithium battery without it. Makes management so much easier. Some have settings so you can set it to charge up to certain levels for longer storage.
My guess would be that they are “pouch” cells vs “prismatic” cells on the inside which is not ideal for a battery that will take some abuse in a boat. Basically pouch cells can be packed into a smaller form factor but lose durability. Not sure if there is a lot of boating specific data out there for each form factor. I believe prismatic is also much easier to replace if an individual cell goes bad. Personally I’d stay away from the mini if space isn’t an issue, but they come with a warranty so worth a shot if you need the form factor.
Of course confirm with the manufacturer if it’s pouch vs prismatic, I’m assuming this based on the standard.
For a Boston whaler “Eddie Van Whaler”
For a scuba boat “Scubastank”.
For one of those barges that puts docks in “Dokken”.
Boat names essentially write themselves
There’s another way to look at it. You generally only take 1 shot per year. It doesn’t really break the bank to spend $10 for an entire years worth if shells (1). I agree I don’t think it matters much between shells and I was also forced one year to buy the most expensive hevi shot they had left on the shelf, but that box has lasted me 5 years. If it gives you confidence, don’t over think it. It’s probably the least expensive part of your hunt.
The Wayzata bay access by the sailing club had open water late into the winter. I wonder if you could get a boat in there now?
I usually hunt the first week and only use a single hen. I just want something for them to focus on when I’m calling as they aren’t too shy that early in the season. I’ve always wondered if I could pull in bigger Tom’s with a jake decoy in the mix, but haven’t been motivated enough to buy or have to carry the extra setup. I exclusively run and gun in the woods so the less I have to pack and carry as I move from spot to spot the better. Ive also gotten by with the cheapest foam and rubber decoys so I don’t feel you need to break the bank to bring birds in, but that could be area and pressure dependent.
Thanks for the replies. After consulting a buddy who dabbles in lithium builds decided to go with a cheapo 24v 100ah battery with bluetooth and am upgrading my onboard charger to a dual bank 12v/24v charger designed for lithium. Time will tell how it holds up but since the cells in the battery are replaceable, I should be able to keep it going the full 10 years. There will be a 20amp 3 bank cabelas charger in the classifieds soon.
So ive been doing a lot of homework lately since im switching to lithium. First thing is if your handy or can find someone who can do it, is to see if you can just repace tbe bad cell or cells in the battery. The nice thing about lithium is they can essentially be rebuilt. If that isn’t an option, look into a single 36v battery WITH Bluetooth. That way you can monitor and set charging levels (partial charges for long term storage). A single battery makes it a single BMS so management is simpler. May be an investment since you’d need to switch chargers as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to go with a cheaper battery as long as it has prismatic cells. Those Dakota and such have nice warranties but you can buy 3 sets of Eco-worthys or equivalent for tbe price. My 2 cents.
Probably get the most satisfaction reverse searing ribeyes, but i do love the ease and taste of some BBQ chicken thighs. I also grill year round and my current setup is a blackstone and gravity fed charcoal grill/smoker. When i had a pellet grill I grilled even more in the winter because it was as easy as turning an oven on. I was also skeptical about the blackstone but only regret not going bigger when I did pull the trigger.
Thanks. Looking into it i probably need to upgrade my onboard charger if I go lithium. Litime does have a decent sale going but those NOCOs just look sturdier and have a slightly better waterproof rating. Guess I gotta figure out how much I want to stick into this old boat.
Reviving this thread as pool 2 proved my 8 yr old trolling motor batteries are ready to be replaced. Looking at 2 12v Litime batteries to run in series for a 24v setup. Have of you that switched to 12.8v lithium batteries replaced your on board charger to handle lithium or have you gotten by with your original on board charger?
It is for me when it comes to interpreing legalize . The Hunting regs don’t call it out and make it seem like you need to print and sign but here is the MN statute 97A.405 LICENSE REQUIREMENTS.
(3) the proper paper license identification number or stamp validation, if the license has been sold to the person by electronic means; or
(4) electronic or other evidence satisfactory to the commissioner that the person has the proper paperless license.
I interpret this that you could even just have the id # if you bought it electronically and don’t even need a photo copy. However if you do buy a paper license, you need to sign it then take a photo. Again, I’ve never had a problem with a screenshot of my unsigned version, but it just takes that one grumpy CO to maybe make it an issue.
Exactly. It’s like a negative loophole. If you print it you need to sign. If you don’t print it you don’t need to sign. Also, i don’t think JC Outdoors clearly spells that out. Too buzzed to pull up the legalize/statute right now but I’ve researched it before.
MN DNR needs to have an electronic signature for fishing licenses. Seems silly that you can get it online but it’s not valid unless you print it out and sign it. I’ve purchased licenses in other states and was allowed an electronic signature. It’s much more efficient and convenient and no paper was involved.
Btw, I printed my license, signed it, and then took a photo of it to keep it on my phone.
You don’t need to sign an electronically purchased license. Just need a screenshot of it. They changed that a year or 2 ago. I’ve been checked on one and it was no issue.
Got both my boys lifetime fish/small game licenses for their 1st birthdays. Agree with others, prices will only increase so if you can do it young, it’s bound to pay for itself. Unless like my oldest boy he keeps saying he doesn’t want to go out fishing with me. Dagger in the heart but he’s only 6 so there’s time to get him “hooked”.
And as for the needed to renew the lifetime yearly, can’t you do it online for free?
Oh for some reason I thought the access to Hidden Falls was blocked during the winter. May consider that, thanks.
Thanks. I’ll have a couple other guys with me but sounds like 494 is the best bet.
Planning to get out Sunday but have only ever used Hidden Falls and never in the winter. Are Snelling and lillydale viable for an 18 ft walk-through aluminum or is 494 the only usable ramp?
I used some that also included flexible hose for a waterheater 5 yrs ago and no issues. Though I did get a form for a class action suit against them. Guess those specific items are prone to failure but mine seem fine so I guess they’ll be free after the check arrives.
I’ve used Menards brand ones on other places with no issues. Agree that the key (as with most things) is the prep work.
Meanwhile I couldn’t even get an answer to an actual truck question I asked twice in the thread
To answer your question, yes you can still find column shifters but have to have a “pass through” center council like with a 3rd seat in the middle. More common on work packages (Ford XL). I think Tahoes and Yukons might have actually brought them back in 2025 as well.
10 inch crappies
That’s 2 inches bigger than what I catch on Medicine…

No heater in that thing BC? And what’s the car battery for?Car battery is powering a diesel heater. The heater is out side and the battery stays inside. Keeps dry heat all weekend.
Just figured out my next purchase. No more getting dripped on all night.
