With the more drastic drop from Thursday to Friday you should see the birds holding tighter in the morning. Gotta play the wind and the sun though too. If it’s calm and sunny they will head to the fields earlier to warm themselves making your middays more successful as they come back in. Windy and cloudy in the morning, then I’m still expecting them in the thick cover at 9am and holding tighter. I also have some theories on where you’ll find your younger bachelor roosters depending on conditions.

Nice Gim. I managed my first limit of the season last weekend. Hoping to get out Sunday then it’s two weekends of extended hunting trips. I’ve hunted central, south central, and SW MN and would say pheasant numbers seem just as good if not slightly better than last year. This is all anecdotal and based on public land.

My wife and I were having pretty regular and debilitating back and hip episodes. We decided to try a new mattress as the old one became concave in the middle from years of use
Need to meet in the middle more wink

I think you’re fine and would not freeze it, especially if you paid for a nice fresh bird.

Not trespassing. After enough time a ‘guest’ legally becomes a ‘tenant’. Only been involved from a foreclosure/REO standpoint so not much help. Looked at kicking a live in girlfriend out a time or two when I’ve gotten upset enough and from what I could tell it would be at least a 90 day process (in MN). Let’s just say I’ve kept her around…

I really want to like my wing shooters but I just can’t. I gave them 2 hunting seasons to try and like them but they’re just too heavy. I put on a lot of miles over grouse and pheasant season and that requires a lighter boot.
Curious what boots you run? I’m a pretty lithe guy who runs lightweight kits and never noticed my wingshooters as heavy, but I don’t have much to compare them to other than muck boots or hiking boots.

And agree on a double knot. Use with rounded laces. Rounded laces are easier to untie.

If that was an LS32 with a similar discount I think I’d jump on that combined with some discounted gift cards and cash back sites.

Brushless. Less friction which means longer battery life, less heat, more energy transfer to task, less part wear and generally more lifetime when comparing similar build quality tools.

No luck in the morning deer sit but scored a bird during a midday dog run at least. Back out to the stand for the rest of the evening.

Started my 9 yr old Setter on Cosequin last year. I’m still able to hunt him all day and he seems to have shown a improvement from last year. Last year I needed to give him Rimadahl before or after some longer hunts, but haven’t had to use it yet this year. That also could be due to keeping him in better off season shape, but agree it doesn’t hurt to try it.

Wonder if mounts count as ‘artwork’? That could add up quick for a lot of folks here, though there’s no replacing that sentimental value.

Shoot 16 gauge all season and have moved to copper plated bismuth 5s so I don’t have to switch out for WPAs. Will mix in some 4s late season. All 2 3/4.

You’ll find it cheaper somewhere else with similar coverage (definitely double check that as stated above). They bank on people being too lazy to switch sort of like cable companies.

    255. Lost our family land this year but a friend wanted to start deer hunting again and invited me out to his land, probably just to use me to gut his deer for him… coffee jester It’s fine since he’s got a big buck on cam, but I’m hoping someone else in the party takes it. I just like sitting in the woods at this point, I can take it or leave it when it comes to the meat.

Just got a quote for accident only for my new pup that would be 10,000 annual max and $250 deductible through Pets Best. Looks like it would be $108 per year. Doesn’t seem too bad.

That’s what I have. One surgery for a foxglove seed that infected a salivary gland and it’s paid for itself. I think it’s a must for a hunting dog.

Let it be late and let it be thin. I’ll be hunting until New Years and don’t have an ice house.

Now outside my selfish prediction I agree that once that first blast of cold air comes it’ll make ice pretty quick. Walkable ice in the metro by 2nd week of Dec. Ice houses will have their season this year.

Cant recommend a south metro vet but I order my Simparica Trio from budgetpetcare.com. Last time I ordered I don’t think they even asked for vet info to get a prescription. Shipping is slow from overseas but price is good. Other times I’ve ordered online I’ve just given the vets info for them to contact for a prescription. My vet has never required blood work for flea and tick.

Kicked up some birds hunkered down on Friday morning after the snow but couldn’t get any shots on them. Regretting going out now because the crusty ice did a number on my new pups paws and pulled his nails up. He’s out of commission for the weekend. Wish he could have made it to Monday for a bye week (slug opener), though if he’s recovered I’ll probably sneak out once between deer sits.

It’s a unicorn year, where Sunday morning isn’t an hour early! Love these years.

Guess I feel the opposite. Since we’re getting up based on sunrise not a specific time, it really didn’t affect us and made it easier to adjust. Might just be me though.

That looks like a blast. So far this season I’m not seeing any major impacts from the wet spring like folks were thinking. I hunt both ‘very poor’ areas in SW MN and ‘Good’ areas in central MN all public. Curious what others feel their seeing anecdotally.

Went out yesterday and this morning. The rain was a godsend. I might have been soaked but we managed one and the scenting conditions were so much better. Not much corn left standing and would imagine most if it will be gone by next weekend around where I was hunting.

I didn’t see anything about the back to the dwelling rule either, but that’s what the dnr told me and that guy was awesome. The home owner probably didn’t think he was to great lol. Hunter harassment charges were filed.

Yeah probably at some point shooting too close and towards a house starts bleeding into other laws of reckless discharge of a firearm that would fall more in police/sheriffs jurisdiction. Hopefully your charges had some affect, can’t stand those guys.

I was also surprised by the 500′ rule. I just looked at the regs and it goes a bit further than just on the water.

    • A person may hunt from the water, a private shooting preserve, or from public land
that is within 500 feet of a building occupied by humans or livestock.

I’ve always avoided getting to close to houses on WMAs but I guess I don’t need to (exceptions for corals). I also don’t see any requirement about having your back to the property but that just seems like good practice.

Might have been just easier to say voting no is cutting your nose off to spite your face, or vote no and kiss the money good bye.

I don’t like the committee thing at all, but you gotta remember they only make decisions on that 1.5% grant, not the 40%. This is a small concession and the committee will still be majority MN state citizens vs the tribes (competing tribes at that). I think it’s simple risk management to pay the 1.5% to guarantee the 40% vs risk it all for a later vote. The 40% ends at 2025 and you need to yet the voters back to the polls to amend any constitional votes to restart that funding. It will be tougher in non-federal election years.

Glen where are you reading that? This is a constitional amendment which requires ratification by the people (voters) of the state. This cannot be unilaterally passed by the legislature. The money will end in 2025.

Maybe my answer was too simple before because I can’t see how anyone here would still vote ‘No’. No means “NOTHING” from lottery proceeds go to the environmental fund that preserves habitat for out future. Instead it allows those in charge (probably dems which most here dont like) to then pass different laws and bills to appropriate that money for whatever they want. Think if 100% of it goes to some woke racial committee (your words not mine) next year because you voted no now? Think about what your risking because 1.5% goes to some committee you don’t like. That is a paltry allowance for another 25 years of funding for things this forum and it’s members care about.

Quit being idealistic and thinking your standing your ground because of a nothing burger. Live in the real world, accept that your going to have to give a little (and it’s pretty small in this case) to get something. That’s how negotiation works. Otherwise your probably going to loose it all.

    End rant

    Simple answer.

Yes Vote – Money goes to the outdoors but there will be some pork barreling which happens on every bill ever.

No Vote – No money for the outdoors. Hope you get another bill with slightly more favorable (based on your opinion) pork barreling in the future but forfeit all those dollars every year it doesn’t happen.
