2 weeks ago the fishing was good. I went to Red Lake instead of Vermilion this last weekend just to try something new.

On Vermilion we were catching fish in 25-30 feet of water. I tried practically every VMC and Rapala jig on the market and the only thing that consistently put fish on the ice was a chub on a dead stick. I did catch one Burbot on a pink flash champ. I had no idea they were even in Vermilion. Everything we caught was between 13 and 16 1/2 inches.

    Good luck

The sheer amount of water here is unreal. Confuses me as to where to start. Looking for a lake that I can fish with a reasonable chance of taking a one-person meal (3-5 fish depending if perch/crappie/gill) of reasonable size. Am limited to my hind feet as a mode of transportation and am a 61yo semi-semi-fit guy. Would prefer within 10 miles of town if that is even possible.

    PM me pleaseā€¦..

Try Pokegama for something close to Grand Rapids. There are also some stocked trout lakes in the area that are fun to fish.

If you can hitch a ride Trout Lake in Coleraine can be fun. I moved to the area over 5 years ago and it is a challenge to get information out of people up here. Pat is very right in his approach to finding good panfish lakes. It has worked pretty good for me so far.

    Good Luck!

Thanks Tom. What would you use to fish the break water? I will be in Two Harbors next week and thought I would give that a try.
