December 28, 2002 at 3:27 am #249566it’s about time, tired of watching people filling their minnow buckets with limits of sauger.this is long overdue…..
December 20, 2002 at 4:07 am #249348maybe this would be a good time to put a length limit on saugers,in the southern pools.then maybe in a few years we can post some pictures of nice saugers.like the ones from pool4(one of these days my fishing buddy and i are going to get up there.) i’ve thought for a few years that they should have length limit on saugers.we try to stick to 13in.for the saugers we get from l&d 14 and l&d15 but it is getting harder and harder.especially when you see 9-11inchers being tossed in the live wells………this is just our observation,we don’t get to fish nearly as much or as much area that we would like to………..beware pool4,we are planning a trip in spring and fall in 2003,
November 22, 2002 at 5:00 pm #248332everyone from bellvue south must be hunting deer, sure not getting any fishing reports,we been to clinton and the sylvan slough, and only getting dinks……….good luck on the hunting,,,,eyesrit
October 29, 2002 at 2:18 am #247396hey rooster,my fishing buddy said a guy he works with was up to bellvue on sunday.brought home 11 saugers, and they tossed back a few short ones.thats second hand info, like from a freind of a freind of afreind deal.don;t know what they used or what the water was like.we fished sylvan slough sunday morning only caught short ones, went home with empty livewell. …eyesrit
August 14, 2002 at 1:44 am #245353i have used fireline for several years and like it alot.one thing i found out is you want to keep the drag on your reel loose.the line is very sensitive but has no stretch.if you fish the river a lot and set the hook on a snag, you put a lot of pressure on the bail and internal gears, believe me i know.had a quantumm energy reel that i used, and it started slipping, took it to the repair man andhe pointed out the bail, and when he took it apart, the gears were really stripped bad.had to trash that reel, only good thing is i get to buy a new reel.but i will keep the drag loose on this one.if you keep the drag a little lite,it might keep the rod from grooving, you can always tighten it when fighting a good fish.this is what i know about fireline, but i will still use it…..eyesrit
August 4, 2002 at 3:25 pm #244924hey there evrybody, havn’t checked in for awhile so i am a little behind.but 3 or 4 years ago we were fishing the pleasure lock at 14,this was in late winter early spring.there was a bunch of fish working the top,so one of the guys fishing there put on a treble hook, and snagged one, basically to see what they were.had a heck of fight for about 15-20 minutes.he went across the lock gate and down to the rocks across from the walkway,i went with him and netted a 12+lb,ugly fish.the guy took it to the fairport hatchery, and they couldn’t tell him what it was.iread later in the year in walleye-insider where a hatchery on the ohio river got flooded and these exotic big headed carp got loose in the river and worked there way down to the miss.they described this fish, and i am certain that is what that guy snagged that morning.so i know that they are as far north as l&d14.sorry about the rambling, but that is what i know about big headed carp……eyesrit
April 9, 2002 at 3:30 am #240746i have always thought that that if they would take out the causeway going onto credit island, and put in a section of bridge, with water flowing underneath it,that would take care of the silting in.and as much as they got to use it after the last flood, they should take out the causeway altogether.just my thoughts on that area………….
February 15, 2002 at 2:58 pm #237336hey there current break, thanks for the info, figured that was the way to go.hopefully me and the boy get there this year.thanks, eyesrit

January 15, 2002 at 3:24 pm #236421hey there gofish, last year i e=mailed the dnr about a length limit on saugers.they said that there are enough sauger in the river not to put a length on sauger.and that the ones that DO get released have a high survival rate.they should have one just to keep evryone honest.have seen a few short (green )saugers go into some livewells at d-port.maybe they should try length limits on certain pools.sure would help in some pools.this is just my opinion, and evreyone has one of those, thanks…………. eyesrit

December 21, 2001 at 4:22 pm #235807if they are setting the rollers at clinton for the winter, does that mean they will be setting the rest of the dam rollers down stream for winter also??????

December 20, 2001 at 7:34 pm #235761WOW!!!glad i missed that in my little 14′ alumacraft flatbottom.i have this e-mail address from the corps rock island division, but it keeps comming back as undelverable.don’t know if it is because i am not on outlook express or what.here it is,maybe someone else can get thru…[email protected] might be 02 instead of o2….if you try, good luck, found it when i typed in mississippi river corp of engineers in my search engine..be carefull out there………
December 20, 2001 at 4:12 pm #235751rooster,i still say it is a conspiracy.we fished 15 tue.up the slough, caught a couple of sauger, then went below the the rollers.they had 3 rollers shut down, marked alot of fish but caught nothing.went by there this morning after taking wife to work, and they had the water rolling again.did ok there last year, but they had half the rollers shut and you could fish it.when i talked about fishing the dam at 14 before,i meant the dam in leclaire.ever do any good there….where do you get those ftr stickers…..thanks eyesrit……
December 17, 2001 at 11:52 pm #235679hey there gofish,i check this board just about every day,and it seems to me that all the northern pools talk about is how good the fishing is,we too have had some good fishing, but i never notice the upper pools have the problem of up and down water, seems like every day it changes around here.is it me or is there a conspiracy from the corp of engineers,to make it really interesting fishing, thanks eyesrit didn’t get out today, but we are going somewhere tues.
December 13, 2001 at 5:14 am #235556is the fishing any good at dam14?would you fish the ia. or ill. side.have fished in the pleasure lock area from the board walk, but never in a boat…..thanks mike
December 12, 2001 at 1:54 am #235509hey there huntfish,i too have been fishing arsenal dam.it was pretty good fishing but has slowed down quite a bit, maybe they will keep the rollers closed now, they could close a couple more too.good to see some local post on this site.good fishing…
