I don’t use blades to often but when I do I use 10lb XT on Mille Lacs and 12-14 on the river.

Count me as one who sometimes drags, sometimes holds off the bottom and sometimes walks or hops it along the bottom. All depends on what mood the fish are in and what kind of flat it might be.Some are really soft, some hard and some have a rocky gravely mix.As for leader length I usually start with about 7′ and go either direction from there. If the fish are scattered and off the bottom a bit I’ll go long ,if there schooled tight and closer to the bottom I’ll go short. One thing to keep in mind though is that if you are using leeches they must be lively and must swim to have the best fish appeal.

While we’re at it.Wondering what size hooks most of you use.I use a light wire snell hook in 6 for larger leeches and crawlers and 8 for smaller crawlers and leeches. Also do you guys feed line with leeches? Generally, unless the leeches are real large or the fish are really short hitting them I don’t feed any line.Just wondering about the rest of you.

Ya, we thought since we were fairly early and there was a spot we’d sit in the harbor and relax a bit.We ended up being kind of stuck in there for awhile until the flow of boats got thru. That place is a little tight when there’s no wind but it was a real bugger on Sunday.I always worry about getting a big wind and trying to drop fish off at the dock there since its pretty shallow.Water must be up some this year though.

Probably no need to look out for us,we generally are a middle of the pack type team with more bad days then good days!!!!

Actually I just mentioned the white Yarcraft because we were parked at the end of the harbor on Sun morning along with a few other boats and thought maybe you were one of the guys we had talked to.
We fished an MTT earlier and we may fish the 2 day MTT in August depending on how other things go.

Thanks. We had a banner day on Sat, and were actually leading going into Sunday .We had 7 slots and a 28 1/4 by 1:00 on Sat. and went in early.I wanted to go spend the rest of the time looking to see if my other spots were still holding fish but we had one a little over 19 3/4 in the well and I was afraid it would die and grow on us so I decided to head in.Sunday we bombed and only weighed in 4 fish .I shoulda went to one of my other areas but we’d catch one every once in awhile and eventually burned up too much of the day.Live and learn I guess.Personally I was really suprized at the number of fish coming into the scales.Seems like most of the Mille Lacs tourney I go to have quite a portion of the guys coming up with zeros.

Don’t have a list ,not sure they ever actually publish one except on the board at the tourney and maybe the top 10 in the Mille Lacs Digest.Erickson and Perlberg I beleive were first with 35 something pounds followed by 27 for second.Dunn and Meyers were third ,don’t remember the weight but we were 4th with 26 so it was between 26-27.

Hey guys ,frequent reader but less fequent writter. We just started at the open water trolling thing on the pond with actually decent success for size but not numbers at all. Fished last Fri thru Sun trolling boards ( 6 to 7 hours a day I suppose ) and crankbaits managed only to catch 7 fish but of those 3 were over 28″ . We used evey kind of crankbait I had ,which is quite a few and really only had success on deep little rippers run 15′ to 20 below the surface . We couldn’t get any of the deeper fish that we could see on the graph to bite .We even tried leadcore with which I’ve had success in the past with but could not get any of the deeper fish to go.Are you guys catching the deeper fish ? If so how? Also ,are you actually able to “see” the fish that are up in the top 15′ of water ? I see balls of bait and tulibees but never any real solid marks that would appear to be eyes. I was just taking it for granted that they were there . Any insight much appreciated. I did see the red Yarcraft out there from time to time as well as the guy with the extra lines and the umbrella, I was in the white Yarcraft (tiller).

    Take care guys

I have a 2001 1895BT W/125 Merc.I really am happy with it.Rides well , has a ton of storage and is laid out very nicely for my style of fishing. When I was in the market I looked at all of em and this one fit me better then any of the others out there at the time.
