I’m not sure about the Garmin’s but I just did this from my Yamaha F150 to my HDS 7. I needed the NMEA starter kit and the CommandLink cable that connects to the motor. In my case this was the setup: Cable from motor to a network T connected to another network T that was connected to power then another T that connects to the head unit followed by the terminating resitor. The cable for your motor should come with one T and the starter kit has two I believe. Hook up to power and ground (at least on the HDS) and you should be all set.

    Hope that helps.

I’ll be looking for your report! I leave on the 18th to head up there for a week. Hopefully I have a few nice days to get out and hunt the eyes, smallies and pike. I am so excited to get up there. I’ve never been there either.

    Try this link:
    http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Product-Support/Troubleshooting-Guide/Marking-Fish/

Also, moreeyes is right, you won’t see arches with the LSS-1. Rather the fish will be brighter white spots almost looking like debris in the field of view.

Lastly, in regards to shallow water, keep in mind the cone angle is about 1/3 your depth, additionally side scan is about 5x your total depth. So a depth of 10 meters should see approximately 25 meters in either direction whereas the sonar will only mark an area of about 3 feet around and straight down.

Here are some other tidbits that might help:
    Transducer Installation
If you still don’t get good fish arches on the screen, it could be the transducer’s mounting is incorrect. If the transducer is mounted on the transom, adjust it until its face is pointing straight down when the boat is in the water. If it is angled, the arch won’t appear on the screen properly. If the arch slopes up but not down, then the front of the transducer is too high and needs to be lowered. If only the back half of the arch is printed, the nose of the transducer is angled too low and needs to be raised.

    Fish Arch Review

    Sensitivity
Automatic operation with ASP™ (Advanced Signal Processing) turned on should give you the proper sensitivity settings but, if necessary, the sensitivity may be increased.

    Target Depth
The depth of the fish can determine if the fish will arch on the screen. If the fish is in shallow water, the fish is not in the cone angle very long, making it difficult to show an arch. Typically, the deeper the fish, the easier it is to show an arch.

    Boat Speed
The boat’s engine should be in gear at an idle or just above. Experiment with your boat to find the best throttle location for good arches. Usually, a slow trolling speed works best.

    Chart Speed
Use at least 3/4 chart speed or higher.

    Zoom Size
If you see markings that are possible fish, but they do not arch, zoom in on them. Using the zoom function lets you effectively increase the screen’s resolution.

    Final notes on fish arches
Very small fish probably will not arch at all. Because of water conditions such as heavy surface clutter or thermoclines, the sensitivity sometimes cannot be turned up enough to get fish arches. For the best results, turn the sensitivity up as high as possible without getting too much noise on the screen. In medium to deep water, this method should work to display fish arches.

A school of fish will appear as many different formations or shapes, depending on how much of the school is within the transducer’s cone. In shallow water, several fish close together appear like blocks that have been stacked in no apparent order. In deep water, each fish will arch according to its size.

    Hope this helps.

I have a Navionics Hot Maps in one unit and just purchased the Lakemaster 2011 chip and popped it in. I had to switch from the “Navionics” chip to “Lowrance” and it worked. Upon reboot it now loads the lakemaster chip. It still gives me the Lowrance or Navionics option but the lakemaster is loaded. ( I have an HDS 7 as well)

Yeah, there isn’t much space at all. To be honest, I thought the in floor storage would be plenty and would be a lot more convenient than it is.

Nick – I kind of like that “Anglers Tote” from Cabelas, I may have to look closer at that.

I do have a couple of the cabela’s brand nylon covers but my brother in-law uses the rod socks and those seem a lot nicer, of course they are 3x the price. $10 is a cheap price to protect $100+ rods though.

I’ve thought about putting one of the wall mount rod holders on the walkthrough and just standing them upgright but I think that will stick out into the walkthrough too far; especially since I have my HDS ram mount kind of sticking out there already.

I tried putting pvc tubes under the floor but the underside comes up to a hard V with the hull and the tubes wouldn’t work. (ala the Alumacraft storage I’ve seen).

I love the boat, I hate the storage. When I bought the boat, I only had 4 rods. Now I bring 5 or 6 baitcasters with me plus my wife’s spinning rod. I had no idea I would do that.

Glad you guys are enjoying it. When he starts up the part about the basset hound and the remote control, I almost lost it. I just read it again and I was still rolling. the “Lost” tv poster just kills me.

I actually haven’t checked out the Onion in quite some time. Everything I’m reading on this guys site appeals to my sense of sarcasm and distorted sense of humor. in other words, it makes me giggle.

Ok, you guys convinced me to give these a try. Ordered up a bag of original, apple cinnamon and some syrup and the fish coating.

my brother in law was in his truck with his boat so we spent a good bit of time complaining and trying to figure out where to try next. Although the road construction all around upper prior made travel a bit slower too. It pained me to waste almost a half tank of fuel with the boat hooked up only to find the ramps all full.

As for the Croix, I’ve never taken my boat out there, or on the Miss. I’m still too intimidated. Maybe once I ride with some guys that do it all the time, I’ll give it a go but I haven’t got the nerve just yet.

We drove by Eagle lake in Maple Grove on the way to pick up my daughter and even that was packed. Just a nice day to be on the water I guess, lots of rec traffic and it was my own fault for being hungover and sleeping in til 8. Normally I’m on the water before 8.

Nevermind, just found it on the Savage newspaper. Reopens Aug. 15. Bummer. Sounds like it will be nice when it’s done though.

Well, I’d say that would peeve me but they fight great and if it were a bass or northern it would be going back anyway so no harm no foul. I personally hate wasting bait on those things but they are fun to catch.

The epoxy should have held… YOu could try putting several short screws into the wood from the bottom up and leaving just a portion of the head exposed. that would give the epoxy something to hold on to. Otherwise you could put the pump on some pvc instead or put a couple short l-brackets on there and screw those to the wood and epoxy the brackets to the hull. If all else fails, use some duct-tape.

Yeah, it was his kid Jeremy who I is a reporter for ESPN.

ESPN NFL Analyst Jeremy Green Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Updated: Friday, 09 Jul 2010, 1:34 PM CDT
    Published : Friday, 09 Jul 2010, 1:34 PM CDT

(NewsCore) – An NFL analyst who writes for ESPN was in custody Friday after being arrested on child porn charges, the Hartford Courant reported.

Jeremy Green, 38, of Southington, Conn., was charged Thursday night with first degree possession of child pornography and possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, according to a press release from the Southington police.

He was in custody on $750,000 cash bail.

Police did not give out information about the crime or about the investigation because the warrant was sealed, the Courant reported.

A former NFL scout, Green listed his occupation on police records as “NFL analyst,” police said. He is a contributing writer for ESPN.com, where he answers NFL questions from web readers, ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys told the newspaper, declining further comment.

Green’s father, Dennis Green, was a head coach for the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.

Zumbra, Waconia, Pearson and Prior can all be good. They are in their summer hideouts now when the sun is up. Early and late in the day you can get them shallow but the big ones are deeper.

Sylvan is supposed to be a good bass lake up there and the channel on Gull ( I think off Gull Dam Road) is usually good. If the water temp is in the upper 70’s, which I suspect it is, you’ll probably have to go deeper in the early afternoon through early evening. Topwaters should still produce in the morning and dusk. They have been around here anyway. I would look for transition spots in the 6-10 ft range that come off points/rocks/weedlines and have access to deeper water. Slow presentations like carolina rigs should work out there too. I’ll be honest, I haven’t fished up there yet this year but that’s the kind of stuff working down here for me.

If nothing else, bobber and crawler on the edge of the pads/weedline and see what bites. THe fish are going to go where they can find shade and a little cooler water in the high sun this time of year.

I’ve got the KVD reel from BPS. Got it on sale for $89 a few months back. I have a number of far more expensive baitcasters and I really like this one. I’m using the 5:1 but they have a 6.4 and a 7:1 as well I believe. It has the flippin switch on it but to be honest, I don’t use it much.

Edited to point out the KVD is a quantum as well. Here is the link

My grandparents put chicken wire on the shoreline and added some small boulders. Not sure what the regs are for you to work with your shoreline but if you can’t trap you probably can’t do this either.

Wow! You are all very lucky. Count your blessings and be thankful you all survived. Hopefully you’ll be made whole on the truck and boat and will be out fishing soon. Glad you are all okay.

I bought a 60″ Terrova to replace a 45″ Edge I had. The only reason I got it was because it was so much cheaper to get the iPilot pre-installed but they only do it on the 60″ versions. So i asked around and was told there was a place in Brooklyn Park and a place in Columbia Heights (Fish Lectronics). Well I took it to fish lectronics and they didn’t shorten the shaft as I had asked, they just installed it. I will now be taking it to the place in BP. I was told it would be around $40 to cut it and the warranty would still be valid. I forget the name of the place but it’s a Minn Kota authorized dealer in Brooklyn Park. You can probably find them on the MK website. Not sure how a cable drive might complicate things vs an electric drive.

If you figure it out let us know.

Red, constant starts with no runs in-between will take its toll on a battery. As one other posted suggested though, you should double check to make sure all connections are tight and clean to the main battery. If they aren’t you won’t get a charge from the motor. If you have a volt meter, put it on the battery and see what the voltage is. Probably going to be in the 12.2-12.8 range. Start the motor and watch it, it should jump to 13.3-14.4v. If it doesn’t then you aren’t getting a charge. If it does, then perhaps you have something else wired to that battery. You could do the simple test and just turn everything on in the boat then disconnect the battery and see what turns off. Maybe the original owner wired some lights or something else? Could be an accessory that needs to be cut off once the power is killed. The other obvious thing I suppose is to check the level of the battery. You can either get a “Load tester” or take it to a battery place and have them check it too. You might find it has good voltage but the cranking power is gone.

If all else fails, just make a 5 minute run with the boat when you’re done fishing and let it get a little charge. If you run the electronics all day and only start the motor for quick runs then you’ll probably want to throw it on the charger every other time you go out. That’s what I’ve been doing. I found myself with a dead main battery on Mille Lacs one day. That sucked! I learned my lesson though.
