get a hold of matt jones he is in prophetstown hell put you on some flats procats website
happened again last night but i noticed something the fish im loosing are in tight to cover i let the one run for a few more seconds then usual and im thinking there holding behind the cover . my bait is placed on upside of the cover and they are pulling back into the cover before heading cross current thinking they are running me through the tree and thats whats breaking my line not sure though. Also landed one that did this and felt fish pull thourgh the cover before i landed him.what do you guys think about locking the rod down in the rod holder???
sorry guys guess i wasnt specific was refering to other websites for my local area in rockford ill as to not being to helpful not here everyone here has answered my questions in great detail!I fish the rock river and pecatonica river which produces fish in the 50+ range weekly! Most are caught by anglers persuing other species there are only a few avid flathead anglers in my area and they are tight lipped. And i finally got one this mourning dinking and dunking the rocks in a foot of water near the fordam dam. It was only 3lbs but when you fish as hard as i do for them it was a relief.I would say it is a safe bet nobody else in the area fishes them as much as me lol so it gets depressing to see others catch them without trying lol.
Congrats everyone sounds like they are starting to go for you guys.Unfortionatly i have not shared the same luck .i have been out twice a week since my last post and not a run yet.Not really sure what i need to do ?Havent heard much about anyone else getting one around here yet either.they are not fished for heavily in rockford area though.
Im fishing the rock river in rockford ill.Yes the main channel runs right along the side of it its not a huge bay more of a flat that cuts slightly back into the bank.It is on the outside of a bend or curve in the river.there is a bigger bend up river with a deep hole its about 2000 yards up but lil or no structure present there.Yes the overhanging trees are on the down side of this bend.
i put my order in on one interested to see this reel seen the 7000i but never seen the hsn
well went out yesterday to try for some channels and not a bite ???differant baits and lots of locations not even a nibbler but still looking forward to next outing!
thank you that is excellent advice i will start a journal with date and conditions
ok i would say my average sit time on a spot was 30 to 45 minutes.average fish catch for flatheads about 1 a month fishing about 15 days out of the month average is about 8lbs and biggest is 44lbs.
also the stretch of rock near me is more sand and gravel flats with very lil in the way of large rock there are guys that get them but they dont speak more then what a picture tells.
I started out early in the year using suckers from the bait shop with no luck not even channels.got my first one last year on my last sucker that had died and i sliced him up a lil.it was mid june behind an island in about two feet of water he smaked it as soon as it hit the water! then i started uising creek chubs in the 6 to 8 inch range which produced all my others but one that i got on a warm mouth sunfish. This is almost daily fishing various times day and night all year differant spots and could not get enough fish to get a pattern.I was getting some outstanding channels compared to the way i had always fished for them before i deffinatly figured them out by fall and could get at least one channel out of 20 each time i went out pushing 10 but it was pure chance on the flats. And thats what my heart is set on when i go!!
