How old are the rods and do you have any pictures? I am interested in the Lws70mlf.
I have 2 7’2” DH feathers and really like them. Didn’t get to use them a ton last year but looking forward to using them this year.
I am guessing that not a ton of people have used the new Tekota’s since I believe that they just came out.
If you are bottom bouncing is a line counter necessary? I use low profile baitcasters on my bottom bouncers and prefer more than the larger reals. No line counter though.
It is not necessary at all but it makes it easier when fishing with kids or people that are not experienced. All I have to say is let out X feet of line and you know they are in the strike zone. I also like the ability to set up off of a piece of structure and then creep up on it with the lines set to the correct depth.
I’ll have to watch the video again because i didn’t catch what rods they were using. I feel like the James and the rest of the guys usually use the TUCR dead stick on the ifish pros (which was my 2nd choice). After a conversation at the TUCR shop, I went with a longer/heavier rod to pick up more line on the hook set in deep water.
I honestly think that just about any rod will work and it is personal preference and how you like to fish.
I also just picked up a 38” Vulcan to run in my ifish pro. Had it out on red for the first time this weekend and it worked well. I would say that it’s a little heavy for those size fish but should be awesome on Mille Lacs (where I keep my fish house).
Jamin, Not sure what happened to your question but it did come through in my email. That cord in the pic is what I used last season in my truck and just ran it off a vex battery. For the wheeler, I took an extra power chord (from a new graph on the boat) and ran the wires to the same vex battery under the front rack.
Just got the bar mount and put it on the wheeler. Looks like it will work pretty good.
The new 570’s are supposed to have a bigger battery but I’m not sure I want to risk it. I already have a power chord that I use in my truck that runs off a vex battery.
What are the pros/cons of wiring directly to the battery vs using a vex battery?
Bringing this thread back up. Anyone have any recent setups that they are willing to share? I just bought a wheeler and I am looking for ideas on hot to mount a graph. It’s a sportsman 570 so I think mounting it to the handle bars is the best way to keep it out of the way of the headlight.
I run a 5’ harness with the white clip clevises and follow the same bouncer weights as mwal. My preferred blade paint colors change based on the year/week/day most of them are painted by Warrior Lures. I haven’t done a ton of experimenting with size and blade color but I prefer a #4 copper.
Here is a pic of my blade box.
Headed up tonight and plan to fish tomorrow. Any suggestions on where to fish with the strong south wind? I prefer to pull spinners but I am willing to try anything to catch fish.
With the weather I would probably reschedule the trip but I am headed back up from the cities area to pick up my truck/boat. Long story but just before the 4th I hit a deer on my way up there and had to leave everything up there and head home.
Any info helps.

I bought a Diawa in the $50 range for an older rod I have and it is a nice reel for the money. I imagine the higher end ones are even nicer.
And yeah, the wife will love the new custom rod and reel… Hahaha! I’ll probably use it more than she will.
Well I couldn’t make the decision one way or the other so I bought one of each… one for me and one for the wife. They both feel great and I can’t wait to get out and use them. I’ll have to post an update after a few months of use.
Last year we got our house out the weekend of January 11th and did really good for 3-4 weeks.
I think it is just the seams but I’m sure the entire thing could use a spray with something. Thanks for the info.
How long does this fall bite usually go? The wife half jokingly said we should go to the Rainey River next weekend and now I’m going to try to make that happen.
Any info helps. I’ve never fished the Rainey and I have never fished LOTW in the fall.
Thanks!
Anyone know the water temp? We are headed up tomorrow for the last open water trip of the year.
Last year on 10/3 I did well in 18-20 fow and the water was 49. I’m also hoping to get out a few more times this year.
Slip bobber + shallow rocks
Never tried that…. you hook the sucker through the lips or the back?
I use a 1/2-5/8 oz Lindy weight with a 4’-5’ mono leader to a #2 octopus hook with a ~6” sucker/chub. I tie my braid main line (with the weight and a bead) to a snap and then tie my leader with a small rolling swivel (like a spinner) That way I can change them out quickly if they get nicked up from the zebs.
Not sure how early you can start rigging chubs/suckers but last year I did really good the last weekend in September through the second weekend in October (but that’s not really early fall). We targeted 15’-20’ rocks on main lake structure (primarily 3 mile reef).
I had the same questions as you and was thinking about trying it out in a few weeks. Water still seems too warm to try it now.
I vote liberty as well. Fairly central (north and south) and is close to a bunch of good spots.
