I just run my auger full bore after I break through and run it up and down once or twice to clean the slush out. In the wheel house, I only drop house halfway when I drill holes and do the same thing. Keeps most of the ice and slush under the house, not in it. And when I drop it the rest of the way and put hole inserts in, it makes the holes nice and banked up.

I use Carhart bibs and a kneeling pad. Carharts last forever, warm as all get out, not as expensive as the ice fishing suits and you can use them for other activitites too. Not to mention they are dang near windproof. FF and Reeds has them on sale often. The kneeling pad I bought on Amazon for about $7.

Instead of banning more guns and limiting the size of a clip you can have, why don’t we just make it illegal for lazy people to have kids? Seems to me like every time a shooting in a school happens, people start marching around saying “you don’t need that gun” and “this could have been avoided by making that illegal”. Rather than more anti-gun legislation, maybe these tragedies can be avoided by parents becoming more active in their kids lives. Seems to me that if your kid is planning to go to a school and kill a bunch of people, there are probably some warning signs that an attentive parent should catch. So maybe we should be marching around saying “This could have been avoided by spending more time with your kid, instilling a stronger system of values, and paying closer attention to what they have been doing.” Just my opinion.

-30 on ice, no portable. Girlfreind was with and we fished for 5 hours straight. She never complained a bit. Not even once. Think I’ll keep her.

This summer was the first in 4 years where I haven’t recovered a break off by re-catching fish. Was really hoping to keep the streak alive.

By the way, a pair of poly socks with a pair of real wool socks over and a pair of ice cleats on your sorrells should only run you about $20 and might get you through till some end of year sales!

I’d have to say save up your money a little bit. IMO, 400 grams isn’t enough. I bought a pair of Rocky Blizzard Stalkers last year on clearance at Reed’s for $80.00 and I love them. 1200 gram thinsulate. I’ve sat on the ice in -30 all day and my feet never even got chilly. The rest of me was frozen solid, but my feet were warm! Just my 2cents.

Check out the Shooters Roundup sponsored by Ahlman’s Guns in Morristown every year. Same type of thing only not quite as big. You can shoot a tommy gun, dozens of WWII machine guns (fully auto), a civil war gatlin gun, all kinds of stuff. Every August I think.

I feel your pain. I’m a contractor and got hit 3 times in a month and a half. Neighbors garage got broken into 2 weeks ago and they caught the guy. Another neighbor across the alley watched the theif and called the cops. Have faith that your theives will get caught somewhere down the line.

I actually had my sunflower heater going in there and did try chiseling out, but broke the chisel. It’s a breifcase style with a black floor, so I think on a warm day if I can get the ice out of the inside and take off the canvas the sun might warm the floor enough to pop it out. If that fails, I’m going to try the torch idea.

Let’s see. A pair of glasses ($300 perscription of course), brother in law lost a brand new rod of mine (I didn’t even get a chance to use it), a tackle box, pole for a fish house, a whiskey bottle- only 1/2 full so that explains that. Too bad the cap wasn’t on. 2 years ago I was reeling in a MONSTER pike, got the fish turned up the hole, my rod snapped in half, broke the line, reel fell off the pole and fell in. Needless to say I now tape my reels to my poles. Sooner or later I’m sure my sanity will disappear through an eight inch circle of sadness as well. The lengths a guy will go to for a meal of fish. Oh, and I lost a boot down a hole when I was a little tyke too.

Chucking snowballs at your buddies tip up to set off the flag is always fun. So is loosening the drag on his reel when he goes out to pee.

I use those round orange polar tip ups with the “tackle box” built in, then stick a couple of hand warmers in the tackle box. Its cheap, and no extra bulky gear to carry.

My question is this- if Ford and Chevrolet are outselling imported cars so well, why is there any need for a bailout? Seems like Toyota and Honda are doing just fine financially.

I do well for crappies on pink and white ratsos and shrimpos. Keep a bunch of sizes, you never know what the fish are going to want.

Same thing happened to a buddy a few years ago, except with his very first jig stick. But he ended up seeing it under the ice a shory time later, drilled a hole, pulled up the pole with a nice sunfish attached. I know, I know, sounds like a load, but I swear it happened.

Would a deer drag harness work? They only cost about 10 or 15 bucks at fleet farm.

My girlfreind got me a bag last year at Fleet Farm. It’s soft sided, but it fits 8 combos, 2 tip ups, my marcum, and pockets for tackle boxes. Also has straps so you can put it on like a backpack. Cost around 30-40 bucks. Made by Croxton.

I love fishing big slabs this time of year. All ice fishing this time of year. Going up to the cabin this weekend targeting jumbo perch and big slab specs.
