Thanks for all of the responses!
I’m done throwing parts at it, and I’ve thought about bringing it in, but it’s a project with my son and myself so he can learn more about vehicles so I’m going to hold off on bringing it in.
I’m planning on checking for spark tonight, then go from there. The previous owner just put new coil packs on it, so those should be good.
What confuses me is that there aren’t any fault codes when we scanned it. The previous owner also said he had an expensive scanner that didn’t get any codes either.
I have a 2015 Passat that my son drives. I just got info on a class action lawsuit against VW for the high pressure fuel pumps on the 2.0 engine. I’m no mechanic, but I’d keep that in mind.
Thanks for the info. I did read something about a service bulletin about them a while ago.
Oxygen…Fuel…Ignition
Are the spark plugs getting juice?
That was my next test. It looks like a PIA to get the spark plugs out, but we’ll probably work at that tonight. I wanted to make sure we’re getting fuel up there first. I saw that you should be able to feel that solenoid when it energizes, but I couldn’t feel anything so I ohmed it out. Problem is I don’t know what the resistance is supposed to be on that coil. I know the battery sparks pretty good when I hook it up with that solenoid hooked up, but not quite as bad with it unhooked, so I’m thinking it might be shorted out.
What engine does it have?
It’s got the 2.0 engine.
I was wondering about that too. We’ve had a OBD reader hooked up to it, and we don’t get any fault codes. I would think we’d get some sort of fault for anything. I do know the fuel pump in the tank is working. It’s under the back seat so we took that out and can feel it when we turn the key on. I just don’t know if it’s getting through the high-pressure fuel pump.

Thanks realtree. That’s what I like about this bow, it looks like the weight is pretty easily adjusted. We’re going to go in and get it set up for him and start at a lighter weight until he gets used to shooting it left handed, then once he starts getting the hang of it we’ll start adjusting the weight up. He shoots shotgun left handed, so hopefully it won’t be too much of an adjustment.
My son wrestles for MAHACA. He’s a senior and been wrestling since 3rd grade. Made it to “state” last year. Was top 2 in sections then 4th in super sections. He’s rated 10th in state to start this year. Made it to NYWA state his 8th grade year, and was one match away from being top 5.
Not a parent of a Wrestler, But wrestled myself in High School and Jr. college. I Wrestled for Staples back during the time that they Dominated Class A Wrestling. I was on Two State Championship Teams and qualified for State in individuals my Sr. year. Wrestling was a great sport. Other than the weight cutting I have nothing bad to say about it. Hope both of your kids have a successful and fun season.
I used to wrestle for Hancock back in the day. We always had a pretty good team, only problem was that we had Staples in our region.
What an awesome community!
Congrats! The smile on her face says it all.
Thanks for the info. I watched a video on installing the Tusk hand warmers and it looked pretty straight forward, so I ended up finding some Tusk warmers on Ebay with the thumb warmer for $60.
I’ve been looking for one for my son as well. He’s been using my BPS which has the bottom shell eject and the safety is on the top, not down by the trigger. He says the safety is the biggest problem when it’s down by the trigger.
Might be a little far, but I would recommend Arthur Bryant’s. Excellent BBQ and a pretty cool history.
We ended up going out of Tavernier with Captain Barry Hoffman out of flatsguide.com. All in all it was a fun trip, we caught a lot of snook and a lot of trout, and a couple of redfish. We fished the Everglades National Park, so that experience itself was fun. Was hoping to catch some bigger fish or some tarpon, but he said the tarpon didn’t get there until about May. He is strictly a catch and release guide, so we didn’t keep anything. He was a pretty good guide, knew what he was talking about, and took us where other boats wouldn’t go.
After looking and checking for a while, we finally found a guide out of Tavernier. Captain Barry Hoffman. We go out Wednesday for a 6 hr trip. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Just saw this on Arties Bait Facebook page.
This weeks special:
One FREE roll of toilet paper with every $100 purchase! Strict limit of one case per customer. Now us the time to “wipe” out your old equipment and get into new!
It’s about 4 years old. He is pretty accurate with the slug barrel.
My son shoots left handed and just uses a right handed gun. The shell eject isn’t a big deal, the main thing is having the safety on the top not down below by the trigger. He shot a youth model Mossberg bantam 20 ga. It was a combo and he still uses it for deer hunting with the slug barrel.
Every time I fill up with gas I get the cheapest wash with underbody wash. Figure for the cost of a vehicle what’s $6 a couple times a month just to get the old salt off.
This is from Arties Facebook page.

I think Yogi Berra had some of the best quotes ever.

At least she doesn’t have to worry about the safety nozzle when she’s pouring it out.
Usually if you can hear it clicking, the igniter is sparking. Sounds like it’s not getting gas. Maybe bad solenoid, or control board not telling the solenoid to open the valve.
I would guess dead battery. I pulled into a FF last year, came back out after getting my stuff and nothing. The doors would unlock, and I would get some goofy things on my EVIC but it wouldn’t turn over. Went inside, bought a new battery and all was good.
Thanks Grouse, that’s kind of what I was thinking. I’ve found info about the autos not being reversible but nothing on the pumps.
My son (15 now) shoots left handed. He uses a right handed shotgun. The shell eject doesn’t bother him, the only issue is the safety. If the safety is on the top it’s no problem, but if it’s down by the trigger he has problems getting it on and off.
I would definitely check the water pump over good. Look for any spots that look like it’s leaking. I’ve had two Rams and have had to put water pumps in both of them.
Pat what do you think of the KFI winch? I was thinking about that one, but couldn’t find many reviews on them. I’m leaning towards the Viper Elite.
So, it is not above the gas pedal as the vent system ends before going that far. Looks to be on the center console area – maybe I can get at it if I take the center panel off. I did it once for the radio and don’t remember it being super hard.
I can look into the passenger floor vent and see that the door moves about 1″ open but it must not be doing enough.
Hopefully dwalton responds.
On my 2010, I had to take the center part of the dash out with the radio and heater controls. I’m not sure how the 06 is set up. It was down towards the bottom in the middle. There are two of them there and I think they’re the same motor and I don’t know which one does what, so it’s kind of a crap shoot to get the right one.
