hahahahahaha that’s almost exactly what my box looks like! I’ve taken some glow tape and modified a few to add a little extra something!

Duluth should be good to go by the weekend! I was out yesterday on 3″ but only in certain locations. Be smart!

February 16, 2014 at 7:31 pm #1389161how about something like this?!!??!! I ripped treated 2×4’s to lessen the weight and made a floor with 1/2″ particle board. Even made a flat deck from the middle bench up to the front of the bow.
Hope this helps! My 25hp Evinrude rips this thing!

January 18, 2014 at 5:04 pm #1380799I’m not a fan of leaders. I’d rather just tie directly to light line and fill up the spool with it
January 18, 2014 at 1:17 pm #1380772Thanks bud; I appreciate the info.
So what about leaders…. Having a swivel tied off to a leader and to a quick snap…. more potential for break offs?
I have never used leaders, so when I’m fishing with light line I just throw more on the spool. Concerns??
January 17, 2014 at 1:58 pm #1380610Keeping a journal of the BPressure is a great idea! I’d like to hear more about how you see it affecting the fish and what species are most affected. If you’re an every day fisherman, that could sure have some impact on your future hookups.
I suppose I’ll start using those fast snaps to avoid donating any spoons! I haven’t had any bad luck thus far, but if it’s not going to affect the bite, I’m all in.
January 17, 2014 at 1:50 pm #1380605Idk about you, but if that burger has bacon on it…. I’m not even going to pause…
I do see your argument though! depends on the bottom conditions and a whole other bundle of variables. Only real way to answer it is to give it a shot!!
December 21, 2013 at 4:51 pm #1373276she did work at Illetschko’s Meats in Inver Grove for a few years!!! haha she never held the cleaver though I’m sure of that
December 17, 2013 at 4:32 pm #1372124Great post!
I’d have to say that angling was the one thing that kept my relationship with my step-father close. Fishing is one of those hobbies that allows for time away from a busy lifestyle; a hectic job; troublesome situation; or just simply time for yourself. Creating memories and getting out of the house will continue to pay off – as down the road, stories are all that we will have to speak about. Although it is nice to have a fishing partner with ya, peace and quite has definitely allowed me to focus on my knowledge and understanding of fish patterns.
I’m all about getting on the water, whether its frozen or open, fishing has molded me into who I am – to an extent. There are very few ways to experience that intense form of gratitude and accomplishment. Tight lines! [image][/image]
December 14, 2013 at 1:06 pm #1371315My GF’s uncle claims that there are some fish in the simley pond between the Mcdonalds and Simley High School. There have been some decent sized northern in there and supposedly there is a 19′ hole in there.
try it out bud!
December 11, 2013 at 9:44 pm #1370861DUUUUUUUDE! that thing is a SOW!!! I am a huge bass fisherman up here in Duluth and a bass like that is an absolute honor to put on the wall! congrats on the beast bud, hopefully i’ll have the opportunity some day…
December 10, 2013 at 10:08 pm #1370499So far my 6″ laser has been just fine if you’re ok with building a little character, sweating it out over dozens of holes. I’ve heard GREAT things about Nills though, 4x as much but if $$$ isn’t an issue, make it happen!
December 10, 2013 at 9:33 pm #1370495There ya go!
It most certainly feels great when a plan comes together; especially when the temperatures throughout the day are ridiculously low. Definitely makes the trip worth it! We all have seen the good “karma bank” of large Bluegills and Eyes returned by you guys back to the depths for some other lucky fisherman. Looks like the fish have returned the favor!!
Excited to see the footage-keep at it,
CheersDecember 8, 2013 at 12:57 pm #1369667Hey thanks for the descriptive feedback sir!!
Those spoons sure do have what it takes to bring em in on these slower bite days. Have you been using the larger 3/16oz VMC spoons or have you downsized at all??
December 8, 2013 at 10:32 am #1369645Awesome episode guys! Hope you had good luck out in the cold front!
December 8, 2013 at 10:02 am #1369642That was me on 3″ of ice this year with a 28″ eye under the ice!!
December 4, 2013 at 9:40 pm #1368774Ya I’m curious to see how the fishing will be after this storm if I can even make it out there within the next week or two.
December 3, 2013 at 2:40 pm #1368381glad the day worked out for you guys! it’s awesome that you made it out before the snowfall hit us and made it a little tougher to get out there. Keep the posts coming!!
December 3, 2013 at 2:33 pm #1368374This totally sucks. i’ve been snowplowing in Duluth since 8am this morning and had to take a break. we have 4-5′ snowdrifts everywhere and it’s looking like another foot of snow through wednesday before the cold front rolls into the northland. I’m up on top of the hill near Mesaba and Rice Lake Rd and have been in the heavy snowfall since about 3pm yesterday. hard to get an accurate accumulation on the snowfall, but i’d have to say more than a foot.
For all of you with the minimal snowfall, get out and enjoy that ice while you can!!
Cheers
December 2, 2013 at 1:40 pm #1368135Apologies! You are correct; it is a bit farther than 30mins. Beautiful area to explore though that is for sure! We ended up seeing a little less fish than we had hoped, but the calm, warm weather made up for that. I had ended up fishing the northern end of Butternut Lake and the ice was quite safe until you were close to the stream that enters the lake near the boat landing. It was about 2 – 2.5 on Sunday evening in some of those areas closer to the mouth. A couple people had their snowmobiles out on the ice but never stopped moving and I don’t blame em haha. We had heard of a few great catches sunday evening closer to 12′ in the north end so I’ll have to swing around soon and tighten up that line!
Cheers
December 1, 2013 at 10:51 am #1367804Awesome Ely trip gentlemen! I would love to make it up towards that area and fish for those eyes! Keep up the great footage; it’s extremely informative and appreciated.
Cheers to the both of ya!
November 30, 2013 at 12:34 pm #1367652“Die hards” are hard to come by now a days aren’t they!? I find it nearly impossible to get anyone out of bed before the 7am hour and if I’m even that lucky, they drag feet the whole day haha. I’ve decided to invest in nice ice picks and go out with a life jacket on and a spud to check the ice in the daylight before I go out for my first early morning.
On the plus side of things, it’s great to get out there solo and have some time to focus on one of the more important things in life – fishing. Always a good time when you have “the quiet” to think and plan out your day on the ice without someone suggesting a thousand other ideas, one of which is usually leaving early haha.
So get out there and have a killer day on the ice! Make sure you put it on blast to make everyone that didn’t make it out… jealous. Tight lines!
November 30, 2013 at 12:11 pm #1367650Duluth has many options! you have 8-10 inland lakes to choose from that hold great fish! 2.5 hour drive from the cities but is totally worth it if your looking for a great weekend.
Also, look into hanging out at some of the resorts in the Fredenburg/Hermantown area. Hi Banks resort is very friendly and they have a few log cabins right on the lakeshore with all of the necessities if ya need to stay an extra night.
Tight lines to ya!
