Not really what I was hoping to hear…but pretty much what I figured. Tuff time of the year to send a unit in, might have to wait it out til late fall before I bite the bullet.

I run a 1600 x 900 on my laptop at home, but don’t do much work at home anymore. It is just fine. However if you are going to be utilizing it from a desktop, without question, go with dual monitors!

Lake Onalaska is part of the river – track to track therefore a MN License works.

I second that!! Switch grass will tear up a toe quicker than anything. Waterproof and lightweight are also a must have. I never wear anything more than a 400gr thinsulate for bird hunting.

Interesting…I have that same unit. I don’t pay much attention to speed but have noticed that if I am going down the bank with the trolling motor then stop for any period of time it quits reading depth/structure/etc. Once I start moving again it reads fine. Do you think this is a linked issue?

i’ll check the connections, that’s always a good first step. good reminder.

that said, i’m relatively confident the voltage is good…since this is occurring on similar units/same software on more than one boat while the boats are running or trolling where available voltage wouldn’t be taxed, such as it would be when starting the main motor.

i’ve heard some references to screen freeze being an issue with ethernet networked units (which these are). has anyone experienced that?

I have the exact issue with linked units….only my bow unit (788di) locks up, the 998 doesn’t.

I would assume it will be a WI issued permit…

…I would also recommend eyeballing the crosshair position somewhere close to where you are headed before creating the waypoint. That will help get the coordinates/waypoint in the ball park – thus only having to change a few of the numbers instead of every single one. Saves some time anyway

My favorite is my old Curado 200 in the 5:1 Gear Ratio but I’m looking to get another reel.

So, what’s your favorite? I’m looking for baitcasters that can cast big deep divers a mile and will pass the test of time.

Right now, I’m thinking about trying the new Curado in the 5:1 ratio. I have a 7:1 now and it’s pretty sweet.

    ———————————————————————————————-

On a side note, a few years ago, when the 7:1 gear ratio reels all came out I bought a couple BPS Extreme reels to test the new style out at a low cost. Decent reels but not very smooth. Not long after, they changed the design again and I was able to pick one up the other day, felt a lot smoother than before. Anybody have a newer one of these? They have what would look to be a nice crankin’ model

    Ditto on the old curado.

I have the newer model too- but it is a high speed

With all of the grass this year (on the river) one would’ve thought the top water action, especially frogs, would have been phenomenal…but I had very few outings like that. That is the main reason that sparked the idea for the follow up baits article. I mainly used top water as a locater or search bait this season…and cleaned up with follow up baits.

    Thanks Kurt.

In regards to your question…More often than not I find myself tossing the toad bait back into the spot to try to evoke a second strike. “killing” a toad is often effective, but my experience is that, they want the follow up bait for this type of presentation moving (for whatever reason). That’s why I like burning that little swim bait as a follow up bait. Obviously this isn’t a “cure all”, just generally what I do and what I’ve found effective. By all means…let the fish tell you what they want as it does/can change daily!
