I have several Fenwick2 piece rods in 6.5-7.0 ft. Been using them pike fishing mostly casting spoons. I’ve never had one come apart on a cast. Been using them for several years. Last time I bought some they were about $100. Very happy with them.

Thanks for the info guys. We fish the Churchill River system. Fishing for big pike. Always go in June and wondered if our program would even be possible. I’m sure the small shallow bays will be full of weeds an maybe too warm. We cast 5-6” spoons. We plan on working the deeper water along entrances to our favorite bays as a starter. Sept 7-21 IF able to cross border.

If you get this message, I have a few questions about Lynn Lake. We go to Leaf Rapids. If I remember correctly you have been up there in the fall.
    Love that area.
    Thanks. Doug

We fish in Manitoba. They have been barbless up there for about 25 years. We run 3/0-5/0 single barbless hooks on all our spoons. Seldom lose a fish due to being barbless. More weedless. Plus if you get one in yourself they come out easy.

I have a pike and a Muskie done by Fittante Taxidermy. He does excellent work and mine was finished when he told me it would be done. I would use him again—- for sure.

My experience at Valdez is a long boat ride to get halibut. My brother goes out of Homer and does real good.
If you get near Manley Hot Springs find a guide to take you to Fish Creek. We had lots of fun casting for pike. All day action. Have fun catching silver salmon.

How about catalpa worms. Used them for panfish when I was a kid. Climb the catalpa tree and pick your bait off the leaves. Cut the worm in half and turn inside out when putting it on the hook.
Lots of fun on the cane pole.

I have used both of those reels but it was about 40 years ago. My plan is to have it rigged with a surface lure and ready to go. My first trip to Canada was when I was 10. My dad spent a lot of time picking out backlashes. He passed away a few years ago. I thought I’d fish some the way he taught me to cast for pike. We had lots of great trips together. I think of him every time I go fishing.
    Thanks for your replies. Doug

We pike fish in Manitoba every spring. Manitoba has had barbless hook policy for at least 25 years. We grind all barbs off. I only remember every losing 1 fish that I thought a barb may have helped.
I agree with better hook up. I cast spoons for pike. Change all trebles to single hook. I live in Michigan and use barbless here also.

I’ll try to keep this short.
Tom got a hook in his thumb.
Jeff says I can get it out with a piece of line. Explains it to Tom
Tom says I’ll go to ER
As soon as Doctor walks in the room he asks nurse for piece of line. Dr took it out just like Jeff said he’d do it.

We go to Manitoba every spring. Last year they took our eggs. First time ever for us. This year they never asked what food we had.

I have Costa with the poly lens. Previously had a pair of Maui Jims glass. The Maui are several years old but comparing the two the Costa is the best!!!

We drove up to Lynn Lake once just to see what was there. We have lots of fun casting for big pike. The Churchill River The locals are all walleye fishermen. A great area to fish. I’m leaving June 6. We’ll be up there 12 days. Can’t wait!!
