Hot dogs do work. Very common bait for old timers. I once cleaned a pike with a half hot dog in its belly.

Open water mode and gain up higher than normal does seem to work.
December 27, 2015 at 1:10 pm #1587524If you can still find good live weeds start there. Weedline is good but you may want to try to find open pockets in the weeds and look there.
December 9, 2015 at 7:18 pm #1583440You can make these work better shallow by tweaking the setup.
I pretty much stopped using my lx7 shallow, or deep, so this might be wrong..
I think it was open water mode, ping set low, transducer high in hole and wide beam? Or, was it narrow beam?
Setting ping does not help. Someone told me to try and it did not work. I tried all the different ping rates using spoons and a rippin rap. No return closer than 5′.

I wonder why they are waiting for january to fix this? The last update was in january also. Updates should be ready to go for first ice. My LX7 has not seen much time on the ice this season since ive been fishing shallow so far. Kind of funny that my old lx3 is my goto flasher while my $650 LX7 sits.Drum, i picked up a new LX3 tci a few weeks ago, but haven’t had a chance to use it. I’m assuming you don’t see the same issues in shallow water with your LX3, since it sounds like your go to now, but could you confirm.
Correct. The lx3 will see a target very close. The old lx3 anyway.

December 2, 2015 at 7:10 am #1581294So….. Are you saying there IS an update to the firmware coming?
November 11, 2015 at 6:17 am #1576472Talked to a pro staff member this weekend and was talking on this issue. He said to go to the sonar settings and set the ping rate to 2 or 3 in shallow water. 4 is best to use in everything 10′ and deeper. 4 is probably where everyones is set to since it is misleading that this is most sensitive. Shallow water is the exception.
October 24, 2015 at 4:49 pm #1573034Picked up a CGI inline reel today. Of all places found it at a convenience store that sold a small amount of tackle. Got it for $21. With these reels i noticed the small gap between the spool and side cover. Is there an issue with this icing up?
October 18, 2015 at 7:57 am #1571666Cant say much for the bird since ive never owned one. But here’s a couple things to consider. I was going ti upgrade from an lx3 to a 6. Found a great deal on the 7 so i bought it instead. The footprint is pretty much the same on the 6 and 7. As far as weight you wont notice the difference. If u dismantle and hild both the bare units they are a mere few ounces different. Sounds like you wont be hole hopping much anyway. Since youll be in a shack u can keep the screen brightness lower. This like a cell phone is a battery saver. If u can afford the 7 go for it. But youll love either.
October 12, 2015 at 7:51 pm #1570527This is great news! But it sure would be nice to see the upgrade early. Alot of my shallow fishing is done early.
October 10, 2015 at 3:23 pm #1570032I would think this would be a matter of allowing the transducer to recieve the pulses in this range. Long range transducers do not often function well at close range. But software holefully can tweak this problem to work better.
October 10, 2015 at 2:14 pm #1570022Good to hear of some updates for LX7. I just added a post saying how my lx7 will not see anything closer than 5′ from my ducer. That would be a great fix!
September 8, 2015 at 9:15 pm #1564585Bronzback,
Thanks for the info! I’ll do this once i finally get my hands on one!September 7, 2015 at 12:04 pm #1564330Is it worth the money to get the aluminum spool model? Are the reels the same functionally other than the spool type? Both perform well in the cold?
September 6, 2015 at 2:31 pm #1564225I see the tony roach is an eagle claw. There are a few models. Which range from $35 to $70. Is the mid range model ok? Or is the high end one the only one to bother with? I want ti buy one but dont want to blow $70 if the mid range one is good for a first time in line reel.
