I have that unit and used it at Sioux Narrows for our annual “Trout Camp” trip and the map of the area is way more accurate than my Navionics phone map. Like it a lot. (Not sure if there is an app to preview the maps; however).

On the river, I seem to have better luck with flat raps and even more luck with shiver minnows, than jigging raps. I drift with the current and jig vertically when possible. I let it hit bottom each time before jigging up again. I use 10-12 lb. mono with a swivel and three feet of fluorocarbon with a small snap on the end. This seems to allow for better hook ups. On Thursday, caught seven different species and missed a big fish- never got to see what it was -darn. I don’t have all the answers by any means, so enjoy your time on the water and tight lines.

Just a thought: wear surgical gloves (non latex if you are allergic to latex) and a good pair of choppers over the top. They should give you the dexterity to bait your hooks and remove fish while keeping your hands dry.

Thank for the info GoldWinger. Neither Fleet Farm or Gander had them in their stores, but I ordered them via a local bait shop for pick up there, thus no freight.

I’ve also caught a pair of men’s X-large underwear on the St.Croix with a bonus brand-new #5 Shad Rap attached. Not my size underwear so that went in the trash at the landing. Also caught a life jacket in the weeds on Winnie with no “body” in it—………

I have found the “shad dart” made in Alma Wi. to be my favorite panfish jig, using 1 inch Maki mino alone or with a wax worm.

How about Kabekona Lake (not the bay attached to Leech Lake)? Very clear and deep in spots. No particular reef or bar, but fairly steep break lines from 10-20 fow.

Ale Assylum’s Mad Town Nut Brown is first on my beer list. Fat Squirrel is right up there, but it’s seasonal. Luckily I know someone in Madison Wi, otherwise the cost is too high in Hudson.

A friend and I put them in our Lund tiller boats ( 18 & 20 ft, respectively), 2 yrs. ago & absolutely love them.

Just got back from a mini vacation. Did my first ever fly fishing in a river on the back side of Pikes Peak in Co. Catch and release only. Fun time!! The walleyes came from a lake!!!
