    Hey Ranger,
I was out last night on the west side. Did not do well at all. All the old tricks were not working. I had a guy trolling right next to me back trolling in what looked like about an 18 foot fishing boat. I told him, “You know you dont have any lights?” he replied, “Yeah, they just went out”. He never left the lake though, I saw him all night long. What a *%$@ nucklehead. Talk about dangerous, especially with no moon. I want to get out Friday night but am very discouraged about last night. Any tips?

    Hey Cranky,
Just got back from Icey bay Alaska and we absolutely killed the silvers (coho) on Dipsy flasher fly combos. The 4inch dipsy is all I have ever used. The most important thing is to make sure you test the trip tension before you let out a bunch of line or you are going to have one hell of a time getting it back in! You should just have to give it a quick snap the trip it. Make damn sure you have a snubber behind it or good by fish – to much shock. When setting lines make sure the boat is motoring straight or you will be into the flat lines off the back of the boat. 3 – 4 feet of line between the dipsy and the flasher, 3 feet to the bait. Planer board rods should work awsome. Good luck on Earie. save some for me though. I will be out there next spring.

Steve, I own both the 7400 and the 700. the 7400 auto is not worth the cardboard it was shipped in! The model 700 is an awesome gun. I just bought one this fall and love it. I got it in the 300 magnum. Wow!!! Flat, flat, flat.! The 700 has been around for ever. Military snipers use it as well as law enforcement snipers. Probably millions have been made with no major changes in design. So few moving parts it is hard to jam or fowl. DO NOT BUY A 7400 AUTO!!!! Talk to any gun dealer and they will tell you the same. What a pice of s—. emal me if you would like to know any thing else about the 700.

I had the pleasure of going out with Steve about a week ago, if you go to his last ML report 10-24-04, the guy holding the 30 incher is me! In steve’s boat! He was a tremendous pool of knowledge and a great guy to be in the boat with. Even though I had just met him it seemed like I was fishing with a good friend I have known my whole life. It does not suprise me that steve gave you a hand at the landing. I still owe him a waterproof bag that I had to put my trophy in to take home. Steve should be a roll model that all anglers should follow.
Great season every body, stay safe and on the dry side of the ice this winter.

    Doc.

Micah, I have fished agate bay all the way down to flamingo. It can be some awsome fishin. Rite in front of agate bay resort (not sure that is its actual name) is agate reef. Find it on your map. It runs for a long way, maybe 500 yards? It goes fron 25 feet to 7 feet real quick. My luck had always been in 7-10 feet with clown colored rogues and rapalas. Be very careful, the water is down and the hazards are off. The north side of the reef is pretty safe but still use caution, hate to see you lose a prop. Agate is kind of an ace in the hole for us guys with smaller boats when the wind is out of the west, but I still think the east and north side weeds are better! Good luck buddy.

    Lip ripper,
It takes real guts to go out solo for the night crankin bite, Ive been there and there is no lonelier placer in the world. If you catch a nice fish there is no one around to take the picture!
I fishe agage a lot last october and had success. However, I think the weeds are better this fall because face it, where the hell has the sun gone? Its my opinion that the bait fish are up on the rocks soaking the warm water from the october sun, this october- NO SUN! I do not think the fish are up there because the baitfish have no reason to be there. Sand and weed combinations now are the ticket. What do you think? 8 million walleyes and only 200 crankbaits – what will the fisherman choose? Sorry, my wife is watching “The Batcheleor” as I write this. You Know that guy is a pro. fisherman…..? Nevermind (Putz!!)
