Suzuki, I hear that!! My son caught most of these, all on his own. Now I have a fishin partner for life!
He was so proudly that he “fed our family”, a great moment.

Funny, I did the very same thing this past fall. I went to the St Paul Ice Show, and picked all the experts brains. Let it be known that I was leaning towards the FLX-28. I came out of the show with a Marcum LX-6. I used it about 12 times this season so far, and absolutely love it! I highly recommend it. I still have the old Hondex (pre Vexilar) FL-8 as the backup.
Good news is that I do not think you can go wrong with any of the units these days, they all seem to be reliable and accurate.
I have a the same unit in my boat. Can I ask if you were out on the ice or in a shack? I was leery about the screen pixels freezing. Also, did you see a “lag” in your jigging and what was being seen on the screen? I have heard that is an issue with the Humminbirds.
Just asking because I’d like to know.
Yes, we did! We were out on a hump that topped out at 18′. We got a tip from Brian Brosdahl. He said to be up on top of the shallowest area of the humps at low light. We did, and did very well.
Best part is that my son caught his two biggest eyes ever!
Yes they had to go back
Josh,
Are the seats comfortable? I sat in the one on display at the ice show, but wondered how comfortable those seats were.
Best show on TV James! The fam knows to leave me alone while you and the boys are on! Yes, I have taken notes during shows, but I primarily look for your tips on where to fish in relation to the surrounding structure.
Thanks again James and IDO!
I got my Lx-6 at this years ice show (from an FL-8)and have used a few times. It is awesome. I will say that the 6 is a great size in a portable, but if out on the ice standing, I could see the need for a bigger screen.

Wetsleeve is spot on! The only thing I might add is a small swivel between the Sufix and fluoro. Especially if you are using a Spoon or Rap.
Wade,
I’ve been experimenting this year. I have a few rods that I tied a fluorocarbon leader to the ice braid and a few that I tied a very small swivel to the braid and then a 4-6′ leader of fluorocarbon. but in an earlier thread, someone posted that they tie 4′ braid and under, direct to the jig/lure. I was thinking that a swivel would help lessen line twist.
Just my thoughts. I will keep watching this.
Yes you are right, it is my Navionics+ that has expired. They are offering it for $7.99 US and Canada.
I am debating.
I watched both the videos that KirtH posted. They were an hour long each, and some very good and information.

Here here Alex! I do the same, and that is part of the fun for me.
Heck, I will wear out the buttons on my iPad looking at area lakes, and then gear, and then weather, oh and boats! Gotta look at boats! Then there’s fish houses, rods, rain gear, and the list goes on and on!

Ok, terrific info Kent! I may try to adjust it myself, but if I can’t, I will stop up there. They are not far from my house.
JRD, thanks for the info, I wondered about that.
Is that the hex head screw that runs next to the throttle wire? It’s a long gold colored screw.
Guilty! Did it again yesterday!
Went to my local lake way over-thunk it! Instead of the conditions dictating what to use and where to look or fish. My regret was that I fished in the same spots I did last January, but last year in January we were in the mid-winter pattern, this year, we are closer to a first-ice kind of pattern. At least here around the twin cities metro area.
Old habits!
Funny, I just read about this yesterday. The article said to look for “steady” pressure. It said that fish were uncomfortable in high pressure and would be less apt to feed aggressively.
Just my thoughts.
Ok, new issue. I have the paid version, but the update says that it expired? Since when does an app expire? What he heck!
Thanks, I made contact, but he said that it was sold.
Dang, that would have fit the bill nicely!
Wow, I have to say this hit home with me! I am going through this right now as well! Same engine, just a little less miles.
I have a 2011 GMC Sierra. At around 60K I needed new plugs as cylinder #1 had a misfire. Ok, whatever. I changed the plugs. Then I started noticing the oil useage going way up. In the amounts About like you have going on.
Long story short, I took it into the dealer, they did an oil consumption test. Mine was found to be excessive. Last week they tore apart my engine and ended up putting a complete set of Pistons, rings, a few lifters, valves and even a manifold, all because the Pistons were found to be machined to small and not to specs. Today I noticed a large oil leak. It goes back into the dealer on Thursday morning!
No cost to me, mine is lucky to be covered under the 100,000 warranty. Good luck, hopefully you can get lucky like I did. Luther Chev in Brooklyn Park has been amazing! Keeping me updated as they went. Letting me use a loaner truck for 3 days. All it took was 1 oil change and stopping in for them to document the dipstick. So totally about 3-4 months.
Chevy knows of the flaw, but they are not about to go public with something like this.
I chose the 6 and got mine at the St Paul show. I haven’t used it yet, but soon. My decision for getting the 6 was because I am a run and gun type of fisherman, so the smaller footprint and a bit lighter made my decision. If I had a permanent house that had room, I’d get the 7.
Just my thoughts.
