Bachelor just to be clear they did not ban live bait this year. You can use live bait just like we have been all through the season.
We had some reports last weekend. Most of our customers have been trolling the 28-32′ transition out here from the resort. Most of the fish have been caught on #5 or #7 Shad Raps or I have had good luck with the new #4 Shad Dancers. The bite still isn’t real hot yet but it should get progressively better. Might not hurt to try a bigger deep diver on a flat line. Some customers were getting the bigger fish on that presentation.

If you are worried about the wind we have a protected harbor here and we are only 2.5 miles away from the beach. Depending on how you like to fish we have sand/weedlines to the north for pike and musky. Rock to the south for walleye and bass. 2.5 miles to the 28-32′ mud to sand transition (good leadcore trolling in that area, and 5 miles to the nearest mud flats. Give us a call if you are interested.

Here is some new numbers for you. The DNR meeting last week stated that we have just under 28 per net!
We can only have 1 fish this winter?
Those numbers are way above other lakes!
You would be surprised! We have been pretty busy the last two years. The area is getting a different clientele. We are getting more families and more people from out of state targeting bass. We are getting less people that think keeping a fish is key to a fun trip. The out of state customers are staying longer stays and therefore spending more money in the area.
Most of the floating fish have been Tullibee. We had fish floating in this week with the westerly winds. I kept track of the species that I had to pick up. Not saying there aren’t walleyes floating but most are Tullibee.
18 Tullibee
4 Sucker
1 Walleye
1 Perch
1 Smallmouth
Sticker. The guy in the orange shirt is my dad Greg Fisher. I think he has caught more than one walleye! That photo was taken last year when we took the governor fishing.
Andy we do care on the east side. Here at Fishers we have close to 30 people scheduled to fish on the launch and also rental boats. The boats are ready but I don’t want to put anything in with the NW wind forecast because we are nervous the ice might pile up. We also cant mark the channel until the ice is gone. Im thinking the ice will go on Thursday but we will see what happens. If it goes just before the weekend everyone will be in a mad scramble to get things done.
Good luck to everyone,
Dean
Thanks for the kind words lindyrig.
David, here at Fishers Resort we are a family oriented resort with 73 seasonal RV sites. We are currently full at the moment but if you would like we can put you on a waiting list. If you are looking for something this summer I can not guarantee an opening because we have quite a few on the list.
As was said earlier Petes Retreat is only a mile away from us and that is a very nice kid friendly campground. They do have an adult and kids pool. We have some of their customers get a seasonal ramp pass at our resort to launch their boat for the year.
Another option is Wealthwood Estates golf course west of Malmo on HWY 18. They put in some sites last fall and should still have openings. They are not on the lake but they are right across the highway. They are located between Red Door Resort and Barnacles Resort so you could launch your boat there if needed.
If you need any other info give us a call.

Not sure if that will happen from the east side. Here by Malmo we have shore ice out 200 yards that is rough and then smooth ice further out. We actually have been making ice at night. It was in the teens here this morning. I walked out over 100 yards two days ago and it was 3-4 inches but that is only about 2′ of water. Our harbor has made ice and that was 8″ two days ago also. With the high winds we had yesterday there could be a possibility of launching around the Garrison access. It was open south of there on Monday but not sure if its open at the ramp.
I might check this out the next day or two. I have been fishing open water by boat the last two years in December for walleyes. My best presentations were casting swim baits and reeling them back slowly. Also casting a 1/8 to 1/4 oz Northland Fireball jig with a minnow also with a slow retrieve. I was doing this on reefs in the Malmo area in 8-15′ of water.
The ice line is between Malmo Bay and Carlsona and then heads to the SW. Looks pretty slushy. All ice S -SW from wilderness lodge. No damage from the ice here from wind last night. Dean
