Have you considered getting into some greenbacks on Winnipeg? The average size up there will more than make up for the action you’ll get elsewhere. They say a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day of work; I say a bad day of fishing on Winnipeg is better than a good day on lake of the woods.

It’s not much further, depending on where you are.
    Resort-wise, I don’t know. Quite a few Airbnb’s up there.

There are good multispecies fishing spots up in Ontario around kenora but you said walleye specifically.

I was just there on Saturday for a short period. Waves were a little too big for the wife’s comfort. Motion sickness set in so we got off but not before we caught some nice fish. The biggest was from the first trolling run in 32 FOW.

I would like to be back up there this weekend but there are many events that may be prevent me from spending a day on the water.

I know this thread is a bit old but I pulled my xt650 out recently and was reminded of my canvas stretch issue and the bottom/floor frame not sitting flat issue. I heated up the garage and put a heater in the shelter to stretch it out so I could put the last wind pole in but it didn’t work. I ended up just releasing the velcros on the front corners a bit so there was some slack and it was able to drop about an inch towards the ground. Still a bit of a gap until I forced the last wind pole in by going at an angle then sliding it straight. That worked a lot better and closed the gap down to the floor.

Point – put the last wind pole in at an angle then push it sideways until it’s perpendicular with the frame bars. I’ve had it stretching with heat for an hour then heat turned off and cycled this for the last 5 days. No noticeable improvement on getting a wind pole in any easier, but the velcro loosening was the most effective.

Thanks for the reports muskie. Heading up there for the first time in a couple weeks.
You said you caught walleyes at night? I read that there was no night bite on Devil’s lake. Which pushed my group to sleep in a cabin versus wheelhouses.

Knowing where to access what I need and having access is different. I can’t get to the edit screen through either of my phones.

On a good note, I replied to their last email asking why my case is different between now and February and got an “it’s on the way” reply so I’m happy with the charger issue.

Just gotta get a device that can use the app fully and change the password once.

Funny thing was that it was Mike that emailed me the first time in February, and replied to me the second time last week. I forwarded him the email thread regarding the charger. Whether the courier screwed up or not, you shouldn’t expect the customer to have to go out of their way to right something.
Maybe I’ll give them a call but I’m afraid I’ll end up talking to Mike and get the same result. “bring it in”

    – big_g, that is a possibility but not in this case. If I were trying to get an extra charger out of this, I probably wouldn’t go through the hassle of venting on a forum. Still, would you risk alienating a customer for a 5 dollar hit to your revenue?

-icenutz, I’m using android. Moto X and Galaxy S5. Wifi settings are through the app. You have two options when you open the app, “Edit” and “Enter”. Edit takes you to wifi settings so you can change the wifi access point name and password. Enter takes you to view the cam. I click on edit and it does nothing on either phones. The app is nothing but an interface for a wifi camera feed. It uses a LuCI web interface which is basically a website/webserver for embedded software like on a router or in this case a wifi camera. Similar to setting up your router, you type in the IP address of your gateway(the pancam or router) and get to a settings page where you login and change wifi settings. I don’t have the password so I can’t get to the settings.
All the pancams have the same password 12345678. If I saw a Marcum_123456 wifi signal, I’d probably get curious and try to connect and view the camera feed if not for a few seconds.

Anyhow, I’ll give them a call and not mention that I’ve contacted them before.

stopped by a metal store in minneapolis last night and got some scrap metal by the pound to make my own extension. 8 dollars, and enough material to make 3 12″ extensions. If you’re handy, that is the way to go. Tubing was – 7/8″ OD 11ga for bit end, 1 1/4″x 5/32″ for powerhead end.

Does blue ribbon bait have official ones or home made ones?
I called joes sporting goods yesterday, they have some made by…cannon I think, couldn’t understand the brand the guy said. Almost 50% more expensive than an official strikemaster one but I don’t feel like building one before my trip on Thursday.

Thanks all, but like I said, I don’t even push at all. It’s always been the weight of the auger doing the work, I just merely hold the throttle and handles to make sure it doesn’t spin the powerhead. I’ll try going lighter on the throttle at the end next time.
Ice was between 28-34″ on the last two outings with the auger.

Even if the auger was angled slightly or not, a drilled hole is a drilled hole, no? If you drill a hole in a piece of metal at an angle(assuming you have a pilot to even start at an angle), does the drill bit get stuck more than it would if it were straight up and down? Or what’s your guys’ reasoning on why an angled hole would make the auger get stuck?

Was out on Waconia on saturday and barely got through off the beaten path. Granted, I didn’t clear the snow or ice chips from around the hole, just kept going. To help things, I can’t find an extension for the life of me in the cities. Only home made/custom made ones from the bait shops. To top it off, they’re almost double the cost of a strikemaster one.

Thanks for replying. It’s only the 8″.
I never had to clear chips out with my eskimo, but the blades are very different and the SM is much faster which is why I attributed getting stuck to the speed of the cut. I’ve found that holding the auger back helps it not get stuck as it cuts a smoother hole and clears chips through the flute. Just wondering if mine was screwy.

Bah, maybe not the most unlucky fisherman. went back out there and got on them for a good 30 minutes, then died off and back on again for a few more fish until I lost a couple crankbaits.

Thanks. I figured I’d have to move to where the wind was coming from. I’m not worried about trolling precision or the like, more worried that is have to hunker down to troll without being thrown side to side in the waves.
I stayed in isle bay all day last time and caught a bunch of perch with a little runny nose.

Thanks guys, I guess i’ll be taking a trip to cabelas tomorrow to check out their trolling combos. If trolling leadcore doesn’t boat fish, I may just stick to good ol’ bass fishing. I don’t eat fish anyways.

I don’t know. Think about the commotion a 3-way rig creates in the water. Not very natural. Probably better in murky water. I tried it many times in the Croix before getting my first lead rig.

I kind of thought so myself, but it seems like it works for people. I haven’t had any luck with it so far but figured I’m doing something incorrectly.
The investment into a leadcore rig is just something i didn’t know if i needed or not. so I wanted to try everything else until the other methods fail me.

When you guys are trolling lead line, are you adjusting your depths to where you mark fish or are you trying to tick bottom?
Lead core seems to be the ticket but threw way rigging should be just as effective.

I’ll be giving her another shot this weekend. If I get skunked again, the boat is going away until opener.

must be my luck and poor choice of days to go. This is my second time on st croix and got skunked the first time too, a couple months back. i guess i’ll be giving her another shot next weekend.

I spotted the fish, most were all on the steep breaks, a couple big arches were suspended. Just not a single bite.

I am THIS close to giving leadcore trolling a shot and seeing if I can net some river walleyes.

I didn’t even get one bite from anything. I was going after walleye but still expected something. All I caught was maybe a cold, along with a branch and a clam/mussel.

Finally got a chance to get out on the same lake tonight. It seems that the problem is still there…Since some of you wanted to see SI alongside the 2d, I’ve attached some here.
All these pictures are in clear mode, sensitivity on 7/20
Pic 1 – the line towards the middle on the SI is my swim ladder at 455khz, it doesn’t show up on 800khz since 800 doesn’t have the full 180 degree coverage.
Vertical lines again, some stuff on the bottom but nothing shows up on SI except for light graininess.
Pic 2 – I saw the SI and I’m thinking “oh yeah…picking up stuff on SI finally” but I compared the 2d with the SI and it doesn’t match right at all. If those were fish hugging the bottom, I should see the fish towards the bottom contour with shadows right?
Pic 3 – more stuff showing up but again, no si shadow.
Pic 4 – Don’t know what is up with the christmas tree stuff….
Pic 5 -Looks like fish again but no shadow. Seeing some angled lines in SI too.
Pic 6 – DI looks like baitfish, but it’s mixed in with the angled lines next to bigger arches around the 24.8ft line. If DI can see baitfish, it should see the giant fish arches too, no?
Pic 7 – just a giant arch with no matching si.

I forgot to capture a screenshot, but I tried SI near the boat launch and saw nothing. It looked just like the rest of these pictures. Went alongside some grass along the shoreline and the si image was the same as the others as well.

My conclusion…something is up with the transducer or head unit.

Looks like the 2d sensitivity is high. Try clear mode version max mode. You are going to have to mess with the setting some.

I hadn’t read the manual straight through yet, I was just playing with the settings. It looked like the only difference between clear and max modes were that max mode had the gain bumped way high – ie, if I set it to clear, and turn the sensitivity way up, it’d look the same as max mode.

In any case, the sensitivity on there was only set to 6 out of…20?

    My preliminary conclusion – http://www.biggeorgiaspots.com/otherstuff/204-the-dreaded-fall-turnover.html
    Lake turnover rising gas bubbles.
Makes a whole lot of sense to me. My only confusion now is the christmas tree and stacked fish arches. If they’re fish, i’m definitely going back there! I wasn’t fully prepared to fish since I just wanted to test the install.

Btw, I mounted the transducer per the instructions on a bass boat and have no problem tracking depths up to 45mph. Not sure what people are talking about when they post issues with their transom mounted transducers.

Thanks for the insight, I do have SI, it just wasn’t showing me anything either. Clean image other than a good bottom structure view. Nothing to show there, but I figured DI should match the 2d.

No boats were flying by, only about 5 boats out that day and they were all in the shallows.

I just can’t believe that there are that many fish all over the deep area. I’m going to boat around on another lake and compare, but I was just hoping someone had a quick fix before going out there again.

Btw, I don’t mind the gps being out there. I only go to this lake because it’s the closest one.

That’s a lot of fish then.
How do you explain the straight lines at a 45 degree angle on image 1 and the big cone cloud in image 2?

    Does not match the DI…

    Is the DI working?
Either 2D or DI is lying to ya. You need to isolate which.

Yes DI is working, when I’m in 15 fow, i can see fallen wood just fine. If I turn the sensitivity way up on the DI, it’ll be completely filled with noise/colored pixels.
Also, when I’m in approximately 20 fow, there’s no interference on the screen. It looks clean.

Riddle me this… these pictures are on the same lake and different parts of the deeper(25+ fow) area.
