I fish Rathbun couple times a week April thru Sept., mainly
fishing for crappies and walleye. Last year water levels was
high and I had terrible luck catching. Hope it is maintained better this year.

Yes, and the ice looks good except where the geese have
    kept some spots open.

Visited Rathbun Thursday 1/27 and found most of the areas that
usually hold fish to have spots of open water looked too
unstable to fish on. Drove all around the lake on roads
found only one group fishing by the Honey Creek area.
So then went to West Lake by the Casino and fished about a dozen different holes for couple hours , 1 small bluegill.
Think I will stick to water north of Des Moines….

Good report, and great fish. Do you know if there is any action on Hubbards float. I have not seen any post on the
fishing from Hubbards float. Thanks for any info.

I fished Rathbun Tues & Wed 6/8, 6/9 and found it very slow, crappies were not by shore and not very co-operative.
The local experts said the fishing has pretty much shut down
because the corp has increased the outflow and thus dropping lake level and that until they stop the flow out
fishing will be poor. Not sure why they are dropping it
during the crappie spawn this will cause lot of lost spawn.

I have been going to this area for about 6 years
and always stay in the Lake City area cause I have
the same impression of Red Wing as you do. Try Lake
City or try Camp Lacupolis just south of Lake City
it has excellant accomadations and is ran by very nice people.

Went to GUTTENBURG 11/19 Wed and looked around they were not
doing much on the float there, small sauger, so went on to
Lynxville l/d 9 and they were doing great, Tuesday and Wed
they were all getting there limits of nice sauger and walleye mix. So decided to try it Thursday 11/20 on the
float and of course the bite had slowed way down but the
weather was great and did catch some sauger, plus seen
several 20 to 22 inch walleyes caught. This was a learning
trip and next time will know the tricks. Good luck to all..
