I detest PayPal. Detest it. Just a reminder, its not a bank. None of that money is guaranteed and at any moment, on their whim they can lock your account for violation. IE I had $4k tied up in mine and because an idiot friend of mine tagged a Fantasy Football payment I had to wait 6 months to withdraw it

I don’t like the Pro View – To me with an FLX28 I couldn’t get it dialed appropriately. I think I’d rather go with the 12 – Might want to be frank with Corey Studer on the phone and just ask his 2c, he’s a sales guy but he’s an honest one
December 23, 2020 at 5:42 pm #200011750mph winds, 7-12″ of snow are not going to help. Wish we would have gotten the 0 Degree temps for a day or two prior
December 19, 2020 at 9:33 am #1998609Dave! Congrats on retirement! I think you will be able to keep yourself occupied!
December 18, 2020 at 2:38 pm #1998509I have a lot of St Croix open water rods but I think they have slipped in my opinion. I just got 2 brand new Commanders from John and I’m blown away at how well they are made. Ultra light, massive backbone, perfect guides, incredible craftsmanship.
December 18, 2020 at 2:36 pm #1998508I haven’t been for a few years, but about 6 years ago I placed in the top 50 or so and got an Aqua Vu with a tiny .8lb Walleye I caught suspended at 50 in 70 ft of water. It was cold! But we had a lot of fun. 10,000 folks having a good time, having a few ice cocktails and maybe a shot at a nice prize. Make a weekend of it if you can.
Here is a storm chaser video of my first year. Glad I had my Striker Suit and Bunny Boots. I was warm the whole day. Kids were crying because their idiot parents thought their Carhart gear would suffice in -40. I’m walking with my buddy (both gray suits) around the :37 Mark by the flags. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGMAhDbQaLM&t
December 18, 2020 at 2:32 pm #1998507Same advice as many – The M5 which was the LX5 and some other model variant in the middle is a good unit. For flashers, Vexilar is the Toyota model. They just are reliable as all hell, especially the transducers. Marcum does not have that reputation. I’ve heard it is a result of too much power going through the transducers, and transducer quality overall.
All of that said, once I tried an LX6 and a Humminbird Helix I was forever hooked on the graph style. Its just so much more information and so much better target seperation I can’t ever go back to a traditional view. Its night and day
December 18, 2020 at 2:28 pm #1998506Got mine delivered 3 days ago. Incredibly light – I’ll reserve judgement until we are at 10-14″. I got the 6″ vs the 8 as the 4ah battery doubles the holes (100 in 16″ vs 50 for the 8″) on paper. If I need to I can always drill a figure 8
December 12, 2020 at 2:46 pm #1996655If you go the route of the FL8 make sure you get an SE, that’s the “latest” model that was from like 8 years ago. NOT an SLT or another old version
December 12, 2020 at 2:42 pm #1996654Good points all around guys – Joe, totally fair point. I cringe when I see some of the imperfections but they can be addressed. And the frames have improved. Thanks everyone
December 11, 2020 at 8:41 pm #1996536Heard a lot of good things about Firebrand. And BlackBear is intriguing as well due to making frames in house and not outsourcing much of anything. That’s why there is such a shortage this year, especially in hydraulic systems.
I’m strongly considering a less robust brand like Grey Wolf/Forest River just because personally I find it insane that some of these fish houses are asking for the price of a luxury 5th Wheel and they all are going to have issues.$55k and maybe a bathroom and shower? Wow.
December 10, 2020 at 7:17 pm #1996217Aqua Vu in my experience, especially for pocket cameras are far superior. My Recon was honestly awful
December 10, 2020 at 10:50 am #1996009I had one a few years back before getting a few Helix Models and Marcum LX6s Models – They are pretty bulky to carry but easy to view as well. In my opinion while I love cameras and they are fun, I think you’re far better off upgrading your flasher for more target seperation. Once I went to a Graph style vs Traditional Flasher I can’t go back. Any movement on the bottom are fish
December 9, 2020 at 5:30 pm #1995762Nope. No Powerhead only from what I have seen, and it being new that would make sense
September 15, 2020 at 6:44 pm #1972617I’m late to the party here but I think its a bad time to buy. I nearly sold my Land Cruiser and got a Tundra because a CrewMax TRD Sport was $260/mo with credit over 775 with nothing down in Feb! Then Covid hit. Now there are zero deals due to demand being low. Now with production down and the less driving I’d wait it out. Just my 2c.
September 15, 2020 at 6:41 pm #1972616I’m a moron – Posted this in general, I’ll move to Classifieds
March 22, 2020 at 3:33 pm #1925963testing – That has been the issue of risk for a month. Its about to hit a fever pitch not seen in a century. My guess is (dutchboy this is speculation) – Market absolutely shits itself and we are effed for 12 months
January 15, 2020 at 8:18 pm #1906576I was on Mille Lacs today and the front/storm killed the bite. Got a 20” landed and some smaller ones but after the snow it was done. Rough year for the ice for sure. Brutal tonight, snowmageddon tomorrow then what? Back to 30 degrees?
January 14, 2020 at 3:10 pm #1906232I got the Striker Ice Defender Gloves and they have been fantastic. Warm, waterproof and wear like iron.
January 14, 2020 at 3:09 pm #1906231Nope x100. In my experience the best unit Marcum makes is the LX6. For some reason the failure/issue rate was far higher on the LX7. Not sure if that carried over to the LX9 but the 6 was far more reliable, and lighter.
My Troller and Troller 2.0 all crapped out, (no weather sealing). The power destroys Marcum Transducers very quickly and its too bad to see them fall this far. That must explain the Rapala relationship ending?
I’m trying my Helix 7 G2N DI this year, and even my old FL8-SE as a secondary unit. I was happy with my Garmin 73SV on a Genz Pack. That’s also a very reliable unit.
January 14, 2020 at 8:51 am #1906109I’m far from any type of authority, but I think most of the answers are here. It depends on forage, clarity and structure.
In clear lakes like Mille Lacs last week the day bite was around 32ft! I’d look for boulder/gravel structure, humps if possible and transition areas.
I like the funnel approach where they can feed deep at their leisure during the day and come higher up the structure during early/late periods.
January 10, 2020 at 8:59 am #1905026fishwater – Weren’t the old Bamboo’s made up of faulty cells? Or is that not true?
My understanding is Dakota now makes a fantastic product
June 9, 2018 at 2:36 pm #1779369Thanks guys! Also man the guys at Batteries Plus are great. I went with a few Duracell AGMs. No more spillage risk
