Plan on going up tomorrow early. Not sure if the wind wants us to go.. Looks like we’ll be hugging the east shore

    Beats working.

Bow fishing is the perfect cross between hunting and fishing. Needing to sneak up to streams. Or to get close enough under water with a spear gun.

    Yes can of worms.

To me you don’t catch anything when you shoot something at it. You shoot it. Then reel it in. Did it a few times when I was a kid. Seemed like a waste to me, but if you enjoy it have fun.

    And for K22 THAT’S A NICE CATCH

No worries hnd. Simply a discussion. I hope I didn’t come off sounding angry or offended, one of the downsides of the internet. I’m fine with what’s been said.

I have unshakeable confidence that every time I throw a blade bait into the river, it will immediately be snagged on a sunken barge and never seen again. And so far, I’ve been 100% right.

Been there. Thanks for the laugh

Thanks for the answers Steve. I will be donating again soon. I will also be up there to fish no matter what the bag limits are. WE have to support the resort owners too!! I hope I can donate and get a trip in right after ice out.

    Donating comes first

the idea that religion should be a personal private endeavor is a fallacy. every decision a person makes, every statement is foundationally molded by their worldview whether you want it to or not.

Please read the first two words again. What I believe in is not a fallacy. If others choose to live their life differently, I don’t judge them. It is their right to live their life as they see fit. I just wanted to clarify that these are my personal feelings. I don’t feel that others need to see it my way.

I noticed this while starting to learn pitching blades.

If you are confident you’re paying attention to every little detail, focused in on what you are doing.

Without confidence I find my self thinking more about not catching fish and second guessing my technique or the spot I am fishing. So yes I do think it makes a difference.

The fish don’t sense it, it shows up in your presentation. How often does a subtle change make a difference in catching fish. Making that little change is confidence, or dumb luck in my case,

Thanks for posting that article Will.I have 2 questions.
Does the DNR set the mesh size that the bands use on their nets? Could they use a bigger mesh and target the larger fish if they wanted to?

    Okay 3 questions
Doesn’t the law/rule/agreement, state that netting is to take place after ice out?

Thanks to all of you (esp Steve) who are trying to do the right thing for the lake!!!

The Wild were fun to watch most of the year. Tough to win when you have a few key injuries to a team with not much depth. Chicago is #1 for a reason. Congrats and good luck to the Hawks. I Hope we can match up better next year. I’ll be watching to see what the wild do in the off season.

Soooooooooooooooo we have gang bangers, alleged murderers and some general gun toting goons in the NFL. But no one offers him a job because of his religion. LMAO. If he had enough talent he would be on a team.

watch the signs on the shore near the dam. There is an area that is closed in march and april out from the dam a hundred yards or so to protect the spawners.

look to see what other people are using when they bring a fish in. If it’s plastics, what color and body shape. If using minnows, is it a hair jig, standard jig or plain hook.
you can ask them too, most people are pretty friendly down there.

    Good luck.

We put eggs in cold water. Bring to full boil for a couple minutes. Cover remove from heat. let stand for 15 min. Rinse under cold water and peel while warm. Make sure you cover the eggs with an inch of extra water before boiling.

nothing but a little salt on my eggs. I can’t imagine how my burps would be with hot sauce on it.

    I agree with cup.
I’m not sure what size boat you have. I went from the 55# power drive to an 80# terrova. ( I don’t have the I pilot yet) If you have room for 2 batteries you will love it. I have a 18′ boat and the 55 just couldn’t handle the river current or have much power for weedy bass fishing. I am amazed at how well the terrova manages the batteries. You won’t be disappointed.
    Good luck

I was out on the ice from the Red Door at 6:45. I found a spot to fish and got set up in 18-19 fow. I had fish moving through as soon as the sun started coming up. They got more active as it got lighter. Most were barely coming off the bottom. The ones that did come up to check out my jig or the dead stick quickly sunk back down when I jigged even the slightest bit. After trying every jigging style and profile of jig, it dawned on me to do one thing I hadn’t thought of, pound sand!!

I was using a lightning jig in black/silver with a red spot on the bottom near the head. 3-4 bounces on the bottom and a lift triggered a very aggressive hit. It was a slot fish, not to big but a nice fish. It just let go 2 feet from the hole, no head shake, no run, just gone. I got my bait back down a had another hit a couple of minutes later. That got me a nice 17″ eye on the ice. It inhaled the jig and I was worried about getting the hook out (still hadn’t measured the fish). When I put the needle nose on the jig it was just sitting in the back of the throat, no signs of being hooked. I did get another fish on the dead stick, 15″ for the bucket. I had lots of action til about 9 am. Two more quick bites was all I had after the 15″.

I have a large truck and I get nervous on any ice under 24″. I stayed on their roads and got out to 26- 28′ fow and started drilling holes. I knew I wanted to fish the morning area again towards dark so I didn’t drive around too much. I worked the area over pretty well marking some fish but the only fish I managed was one 12″ tulibee.

I started working shallower and ended up back at my spot about 3:30. Fish started showing up scattered about 4. By 5 they were getting more active, but still no biters. Just after 5 I got one nice hit and figured I had another slot fish on. A great fight, zipping past the hole a few times I noticed no white spot on the tail. The I saw the red eye.

A great looking 18″ smally was on the ice. Another pb. I’ve haven’t caught that many small mouths in my life.

Packed up and headed home at 6 after stopping in and paying for my road pass.

Another great day to be on that lake. I need to make more time to fish this, summer too.

Thanks for the help guys. I’ll start shallow and work out deeper. I’ll have to see if I can find some rocks before light. I’m going to start shallow early. I’ll get the camera down as soon as it’s light. If you see a grey chevy, stop by. I’ve got an older fish trap 2 with a few patches on it.

    Calvin,
I can’t wait to try out those slender spoons on the metro lakes. I had a couple of trips with a finicky bite. I like the action they have. I saw your report from SD. Nice fish for the conditions.

On the way home I thought of what I didn’t do that day. I never put the camera down. I didn’t stop to eat either. I did snag a little perch that was pecking at the minnow head. But they all weren’t perch. The box fish I got were all mixed in wouldn’t surprise me if they got an eye or 2 with a waxie. Have fun Good Luck.
