I have never fished Erie, but my Father in law booked us a trip out of Port Clinton in late May. We are going out with a guide. He’s been going for a couple of years now and says the fishing is awesome. Should I bring some of my own gear and if so what? Any info is appreciated. I’m having trouble finding a flight. Do you drive out or fly? Thanks d.

my wife(then girlfriend)and I went about 12yrs ago or so. We stayed at a resort 20min or so away from San Juan. We did a few day and 1/2 day trips from the hotel but mainly laid in the hammock on the white sand beach and tossed a few back. There are some reefs to snorkel, theres a pretty cool rain forest area to check out and San Juan is neat also, big old fort, bars, food, and shopping for the misses. what ever you do don’t try and drive there, unless you wanna trade a little paint! crazy drivers. have fun, D.

January 17, 2007 at 5:05 am #523879Thanks for the Prior update, looking to head out there this weekend if I don’t go up north. Were you off of the beach by the island on lower? Any vehicles on the ice over there yet?
January 12, 2007 at 8:15 pm #522044Michaels had all the stuff to make my weeds. 8′ sections of leaves, 3″ round styrofoam for the top and I had the tip up line and weight for the bottom. Made 2 out of the 8′ piece for 10 bucks. Worked good!
January 8, 2007 at 5:04 pm #519788Talked to a couple people leaving the ice before me and no one caught crappies or walleyes. The better fishing is off the beach and by the island on lower Prior. But from what I’ve heard the ice is not as good over there, so I thought I’d try Upper. Anyone else have any reports on Prior?
January 4, 2007 at 9:02 pm #518559Prior Lake bait shop has some in stock if your in the area. They just remodeled the whole store and did a great job. All new bait tanks and lots of new tackle.
December 20, 2006 at 9:14 pm #513462I also like the beans in the chili, but true chili makers( especially in Texas) would nver ruin a good chili by putting beans in it! D.
December 8, 2006 at 12:54 am #508454How much do these things cost? walking by my 50gal aquarium got me thinking. couldn’t you buy some aquarium weeds and tie a kite string to one end with a weight on the other? just a thought. D.
December 8, 2006 at 12:42 am #508445ice is growing fast, two days ago I could see lots of open water from the cr21 bridge, today it was much better. Bays and water out of the wind seemed to have good ice. I didn’t venture out but could see portables and old holes.
December 5, 2006 at 9:54 pm #507426Thanks Scott, I’ll be up on the chain this weekend.maybe I can put that new camera to use. D.

Got one helluva deal on a Marcum vs350 from Reed’sNovember 30, 2006 at 11:52 pm #505461that thought did cross my mind. its 4 years old,but to fix it would probably cost $400.00 and to replace it would cost $1200.00 so if I can get it fixed that would help out with X-mas costs. In the mean time I’m watching football on the old 25″er.
November 30, 2006 at 8:29 pm #505354will I get a better deal than $219.00 for the vs250 at the show?
November 30, 2006 at 8:24 pm #505349I agree they should offer something. Even talking to Tech support was no help.
So no one has had a tv fixed recently???November 13, 2006 at 8:52 pm #499035sounds good, yeah we’ll definately error on the side of caution, thanks,D.
November 11, 2006 at 7:07 pm #498604I’m looking to down size my portable since 9 times out of ten I’m fishing alone. I looked at this set up at Gander this week. The chair is big, but like most styles of this chair you sit sunken in and their tough to get up out of. I would prefer a small one man built on a sled.
September 28, 2006 at 6:21 pm #483765I would like to hear more reports on this topic, as I mainly fish local due to work.
A couple guys myself included have been catching walleyes and good size perch from shore on Prior late in the evening. The eyes are mainly small but some good eaters are mixed in. All the fish I’ve seen caught were released.Fatheads seemed to be the ticket.September 5, 2006 at 1:05 am #474898Thanks for the post, I’m always looking for good shore fishing spots as my five year old boy is normally in tow and anxious for action. little too far out for me but others will appreciate the info. D.
August 16, 2006 at 10:15 pm #469925Thanks for the info guys. It turns out he really wants to fish the river for smallies and or cats. We did hit a spot today and between Dad and my five year old they caught about fifteen or so bullheads, one bass and I caught a decent pike. Friday we will try the river although I’m apprehensive since I’ve never fish rivers! I’ll let you know how it goes! D.
July 18, 2006 at 8:09 pm #461460The kids aren’t picky at all! They just want action. Is it worth trying to fish for walleye? This will be our second year on this lake. Last year I caught largemouth, smallies, northern, catfish, one walleye, carp and tons of gills, but not one crappie! I guess if I had my choice I’d like to catch smallies.
May 1, 2006 at 8:02 pm #442542thanks Luke, yeah I’m looking for a portable hand held unit that I can use in my truck and then take on the boat when needed.
March 15, 2006 at 1:37 am #430056A neighbor/friend/fishing buddy whom belongs to a bass club told me about the site. I think someone in his club told him?? It is my most visited site on the web, Thanks IDA, D.
January 24, 2006 at 4:38 pm #414166I talked to a kid in Prior lake bait shop last week and he said the crappie bite was good on the north end of Spring in 17 to 20 fow. I fished there Sunday and caught 20 or so gills and a couple very small bass but didn’t see a crappie. there is definately a lot of houses out there. I’m going back tommorow to give it one more try for some crappie action. D.
January 16, 2006 at 5:56 pm #412254Thanks for the report on Round Lake. Love to hear about places to take my little one as he gets bored quick if he’s not slinging them up on the ice! D.
