To even add bigger odds against landing that fish, Mitch (another guy in our party) was several yards away from Chris. While Chris was fighting this monster, Mitch also had HIS line go very very heavy for about a 20 minute fight! Yep, we thought we had 2 epic battles on our hands!! Somehow Mitch brought his jig close enough to the hole once to see his jig, but thats all he saw!! His jig! It turns out that Mitch and Chris were in the same battle with the fish and each other! The pike had run so far out that Mitch jig snagged Chris’s line and they fought against the fish and each other for almost 20 minutes…and didnt know it!! Weird enough, Mitch’s line broke and the pike was all back on Chris’s noodle rod.
It was so odd! Travis was directly between Chris and Mitch and he stayed clear of the pike’s run but he got into Mitch.
So between a noodle rod, 2 lb test, running Chris’s reel almost empty several times, getting hooked by Mitch’s jig, and an hour plus fight….the odds were not in Chris’s favor! But the pro prevailed with an awesome fish (and a really cold arm). I wish I would have learned something from that. Maybe I could have landed the monster crappie I lost at the hole! GRR!!
A fishing story I was there for and will NEVER forget!!!!
