So Todd, how thick was the ice? Isn’t that what this section is all about?

Ryan, you missed out on a good time…what a bunch of clowns! Hope I can meet up with you on the next one!

Stuart, you, your mother, and your family will be in my prayers. Stay strong! I just lost my mother last fall, and hashing over old memories and good times helped me and my sisters get thru it. May she go in peace.

Darrin, who is giving the lecture on rod-building? It’s not Brian G., is it? I still need to make a meeting!

Sounded like everyone had a good time, if not for work I may have tried to make it over! Is this normally held in the same general area every year?

Perhaps I should have made myself a little clearer. The ‘cruel’ I was referring to was you guys yipping it up about getting to go hunt them little buggers, whilst us unfortunate Iowans get to go birdwatching!
Thanks for not bashing me too hard, after re-reading my post, I can see where one could get the wrong idea!
Just so ya know I’m not some tree-hugging, tofu-eatin freak!!

I too fish exclusively with tubes for slabs. For them springtime crappies, my favorite colors are white and black/chartruese on a 1/32oz jig. Who needs the hassle of the bait!

Being a long-time user of the old ’33’, I took a look at the new ones. I personnally thought the ‘classic’ reel looked cheap-reminded me of the old ‘202’s and ‘404’s. Then I saw the 33 platinum. Hmmm…this looks to be built a little sturdier(Actually had some metal in it). Picked one up, and although I have probably only used it a half dozen times, so far I am impressed with it. Smooth casting, and no problems with line twist. Thankfully, if I do have problems with it, I can just toss it and rebuild one of the old ones out of my ‘bucket ‘o’ 33s’!
Hope a different line will solve your problem!

OK, for the performa series, one thing you can check is the snubber. It is a white plastic ring that sits underneath the the tub frame. They wear out pretty quick from what I’ve seen. The top swings up by depressing 2 spring clips with a small screwdriver or knife, then there are 2 5/16″ screws on top that hold the front on. Again, special tools needed to release the springs to pull the entire assbly out to replace this. I have used metal outlet boxes by stretching the spring(pushing the tub to one side or the other) and insert the box in the springs lengthways. Remove the belt, and a couple hoses, and the whole tub/tranny assbly pulls right out. Might be more work then you’re looking for tho!

PS-On this series, there is no oil in the brake assbly…shoots that idea!

Troy, the first and easiest thing to try, would be to oil the brake assbly, it could be dry. Tip your washer back, and above the main pulley you will see the brake assbly. There is a somewhat ‘open area’ in the center, and you will notice a lip. Find something to squirt about a tblspn of 90wt oil up over this lip, and give it a try! If that’s not it, it could be the spin bearing in the outer tub, disassembly required, but well worth putting some $$ into! This info is based on a Dependable Care(commercial duty) model. If you have a Performa series, my best advice would be run it until you can’t stand it anymore, or it falls apart! I’m not too fond of the quality of those!

Steve, I work part-time at a Maytag dealer. Sounds like possibly the topend of the tranny is starting to seize due I’m guessing to a leaking seal in the stemnut. May be time to start shopping, unless you know how to tear it down and shine the shaft back up, and replace the seal. Also requires a few specialty tools. Good luck!

The big hole upstream from Boone is locally called ‘the Big Eddy’. Tried finding it once with no luck. It is supposedly just downstream from the Frasier dam. Need to try searching for it again sometime!

Todd, also heard the northern there were on fire. Didn’t hear what they were catching them on tho. Be on the lookout for a St. Croix rod on the end of your line! Someone we both know lost one over the side of his boat yesterday!

Congrats on that ‘eye Joe! Wait till one of those PC muskies decides he wants your lure! Glad to hear you’re finding some fish, and the time to pursue them!
