This poor guy must own a Merc…a Yamaha could be a great marraige counselor.

Sometimes I run my anchor rope through the eye and then to a cleat while unloading my boat, before I go out, if I know I’m going to be anchoring. It’s kind of a hassle sometimes, but it’s better than drilling more holes in your boat.

Sunday was very good for me when the wind picked up around 11, or noon. My wife layed down in the front of the boat for a quick nap and I couldn’t keep up with two rods. I was pulling spinners and crawlers, and we had our eight by 1pm.

Nelson Marine in White Bear Lake has always had the parts I need. I know it’s not real convenient for you in West Central Mn…but that’s who I’d call. The trouble is that there aren’t many good Yamaha mechanics out there…since they almost never need repair.

My family and I rented a cabin on Gull for a week at a time from 1990 to 2005 (or 06) in July or August. Took me a few years to start catching walleyes consistently. On the weekends you might as well plan on spending the time with the family, or fishing at night. I did get my two biggest walleyes on Gull trolling cranks at night (a 31″ and a 32″ on the same night). As far as day fishing, I’d never go on Gull without minnows (my preference being creek chubs, redtails as a close second). There’s a series of humps called “the hat”, SE of the big rock pile. The humps top out at a variety of depths, cruise over these and look for good marks, typically on the windward side of the humps. I’ve caught a lot of fish over the years on these, rigging minnows. Hope this helps.

that was my Lund tiller. We made back to the landing, but there were a group of guys with their trailer on one ramp, with their boat on the other. The boat was facing the wrong way and they couldn’t get it turned around. Meanwhile, I’m taking water over the back(over the wave whackers), over the front and over the side. My bilge quit working when it plugged up with debris, so I had no choice but to beach it. It sucked doing that. Boat is fine, just $1850 damage to rods, reels, ship to shore radio, on board charger, foot control for front trolling motor, rear trolling motor shot, etc., etc. As far as wave height…I’ve fished Mille Lacs hard for the last 15- 20m years and have never seen waves like that before. For the most part, when someone talks about 4 or 5 footers, in my opinion they’re usually more like 3 – 4, but there were two that I hit on the way in, that I’d bet my life that they were 7. Like I said, I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve been concerned in my boat with bad weather before, but I have to admit this one was scary.
