I know Livescope is a controversial subject, but if you need it to catch fish in the BW, you’re doing it wrong jester

I certainly don’t need it but, its fun. I find the map create is way more beneficial.

Less is definitely more up there. Canoe fishing is all about getting back to basics.

I am the opposite, livescope and a ten fin net get put in the canoe before the tent lol.

They are certainly moving more today than yesterday, interesting that afternoons see more movement here too.

Carpet trimmed to match the boots with a couple of hex screws is what I use for shallow late ice fish.

I love my pontoon, but with anything, know the water, weather and pay attention.

Your title confuses me a it. Says scaled/whole Sunfish. Have you tried scaled then fillet then fry?

I generally scale then filled most but clean some whole just for me!

Done them two ways, gut, scale and fry whole, I have also scaled them, off the carcas and take the ribs out.

    How deep are you fishing?

Inside a heated shack or outside?

Running a mono or fluoro leader with the braid?

What pound test line are running?

Where are you losing your fish at immediately after the hookset? Half way up? Bottom of the hole?

we have been on 2 Alaskan cruses and booking a 3rd for next year, both have been great, only disappointing excursion we went on was the bus tour of Denali, we didn’t see much for wildlife on it, this was on the first week in July so maybe later there would be more activity/ we have sailed on Princess Line, Carnival. and Regency, our last cruise to the Caribbean was on Norwegian, they have been the best so far in my opinion,

We did Denali last summer as well in June, we saw a couple of bears and that was it. I think with the road being closed past the first 20% or whatever it is doesnt help the situation. I swear I see more wildlife in the city limits than I do anywhere else.

I’m no help with cruise info. But, if I were going to Alaska I’d try like heck for a side trip to go grayling fishing.

Fished them last year, planned 3 days to fish for them thinking it would be a struggle and or hard to find them. It wasn’t. They were a lot of fun, caught some nice ones too, but after a day of them, it was kind of boring. Caught them from shore, in a canoe, in a stream, in line spinners and flies. Did keep a couple to eat and they were excellent.

I know it’s not a slider but this FGF mold I think will be a good addition. I am also torn on adding this epic mold to the collection. I have a few do it molds, but I seem to have better luck with Epic, FGF, AI over do it.

    JJ,

Have you looked at the “slider” that Jacob’s molds offers? Kinda torn between that and the do it.

Shhhhhhhhh. And don’t ever try that fly under the ice on a drop shot!

Made some money back in the day on the NAIFC and UPL when I was really mad at em!

Talking about presentations. One that is never talked about and is super deadly is drop shotting for them with a fly or a plastic. When that water is in the 40s and low 50s. a well presented fly can be stupid good.

Not disagreeing or saying you are wrong or being disrespectful at all, I know there are millions of fish caught on black colors. I just have absolute zero confidence in that color. lol

I understand the science behind colors, what fish see, depth etc.

But if you put a gun to my head and said you will fish a black plastic for anything, I will ask you what caliber it is before I open the bail to make a cast.

My point is I think confidence means as much if not more than the color. Profile and presentation are way more important than color in my opinion.

Cw…. are you putting the scent in the raw plastic and cooking it in or just adding scent to the bait bag? I’ll add scent to the bait bags, but I don’t cook it in.

It’s the last thing I add in before pouring, hit temp, good mix, add in scent and shoot.

When I bag them I add some oil and some more scent too.

I don’t think it matters either to be honest.

    Brian,

All the plastics I make, I do about half and half scented and not. Typically I don’t notice a difference. I have 6 or 7 different scents that I use.

I will say though that Billy rub stuff can be incredible.

Rarely do I use livebait for crappies and panfish year round. If I’m set up for the night in a spot, sure of if I’m in an area with mags, I’ll usually throw down a walleye sized fathead.

When in season, I do find soaking a decoy sized sucker for whatever reason will hold bluegills around you longer.

Jimmy, how do you generally cook the aspargus?? not an of it steamed or boiled…its either raw or on the grill wrapped and seasoned in tin foil!

Pickled in a bloody mary is the best way to eat them.

Do-It Molds also makes a 1.5″ Paddletail that beats a Brewer hands down.

This one I can not find.

The crappies were popping this morning. Dinner tonight will be crappies.

Cw. That’s the Do-It Mold’s 2-1/4″ Small Fry bait. A super bait I might add. Very versatile as far as manipulating it and super productive in the crappie department.

Do-It Molds also makes a 1.5″ Paddletail that beats a Brewer hands down. Much smaller and thinner tail button, plus the web between the button and the body of the bait is also very thin which means that tail button moves with hardly a twitch. Current alone will move that tail.

Weird I can’t find it, my favorite mold for crappies open water has been the Epic Bait Molds 1.7 Prey bait.

I think FFS is to blame for the declining deer herd in mn.
