Sitting by the campfire sipping on some scotch and enjoying a cigar. wrapping up a 3 day stay on winnie. We stayed at the winnie dam campground. Nice facility. Bathrooms are clean. It’s close to the road which provides some noise but it’s tolerable. Friday night some new fellers show up at the site next to me. Look like trouble so I downed a few beers and mosied on over. We talked over a few beers for an hour or so. Very nice guys. I walked back to my site and was preparing to go back out fishing so was reading some posts for info. I remember the feller saying he was from cloquet and I put two and two together and walked back over and asked if he was Waldo. Sure enough he was. Very nice to meet you @waldo9190. If I ever find myself in cloquet with some time maybe we can chase some eyes on the st louis sometime.

Fishing was tough during the day. Managed only a few pike through 2 days of fishing. Then last night we found em pulling cranks in 6 ft of water. One after another. Couldn’t keep em off our lines but unfortunately the storm chased us off the lake. Today we took it easy relaxing in camp and I spent some money at the gosh dam place. Awesome bar! Went back out for the night bite and was just like the night before – hitting shallow running cranks. Wasn’t as fast and furious but managed 8 walleyes tonight to go along with a half dozen the night before. All in the 17-19″ range. Winnie is a cool lake and ill definitely be back

That was 3 seconds left of the 1st quarter of OT, if time ran out, they just march down to the other end of the field and start the 2nd quarter. Confusing new rules for sure and I actually think SF gave the game away by choosing to receive. That was the biggest blunder of the game. The new rules mirror college games now and of the last 328 college games that went into overtime only 4 times have they chosen to receive. It’s a HUGE disadvantage to receive. He won’t admit it, but I’m sure Shanahan would like to have that one back.

Hmmm ok. I guess I didn’t know that. Sounds like many of the players didn’t either based off of the reports I’m reading lol

Why did KC let the clock wind down to 3 seconds on the final play? They had several timeouts and mahomes got a 1st down with 16 seconds left in the game. Why not call a timeout and have a chance to go for the end zone multiple times? Instead they let the clock go down to 3 seconds and if he doesn’t make that catch their only option is to tie with a FG

I thought both teams executed quite poorly for the most part especially in the first half. Turned into a good game though

Seeing more people out on tonka lately. Glare ice looks nice for pulling by hand. Have to be in San Diego for work next week but hoping to get out next weekend

just looked out the window at work in minnetonka and its raining harder now than it was earlier. Dont think there will be any ice to fish in the metro after this. Might see a few dummies out there but you wont see me. Hopefully it gets cold again. Would be nice to get out before its time to grab the boat

Its because they will float. To me they look like a dentists office on the inside.

In addition to that they are crazy light. My buddies is 25 ft long and weighs 4300 lbs. He can get out on 10″ of ice when other houses of his size need to wait another month

I’m not an expert or an owner but ive fished out of a lot of different models and they all have problems. I’ve fished out of a Salem, ice core and many different ice castles as well as several homemades. The ice core was the most expensive and also has had the most issues. The ice castles my friends have owned have been mostly trouble free but of course all one has to do is join a few FB groups to see cracked frames and cracked siding from frame shifting.

If I ever buy a fish house I would probably buy a homemade one because they are very affordable comparatively and hope the fellar who made it did a good job

Funny. With the warm weather I’ve been thinking about how to identify walleye patterns. I almost created a post about it but figured I would ask jeeves first. One of the first things that pops up is my own post with the same question lol. Guess I haven’t learned much over the years. Figures

There’s some fishable ice around but it’s sketchy and inconsistent. I wouldn’t be going out exploring without checking every few feet personally

To those who follow the NBA closer than I do:

Should the Wolves try to trade for someone before the Feb 8 trade deadline? Or should they stand pat?

The prevailing opinion is that we need another piece if we truly want to contend. Most say we need either a good backup PG to take some pressure off Conley and or a 3 point sharp shooter. We don’t have a lot of tradable assets we are willing to part with. Basically it’s slowmo or Naz. Naz will retire in the timberwolves hall of fame. I’d be fine if they traded towns but they won’t do that this year. We are also into the 2nd tax tier so taking on more salary long term is probably out of the question

Bearcat I have the disc-o-bed XL cots. I roll around a lot when sleeping and sleep on my stomach so the extra width is great. They are expensive and heavy but have been a great investment. Big time space saver not only for ice camping, where space is at a premium, but we also use them for the kids when they have sleepovers and at the cabin if we have guests. They are built like a brick poop house and will likely be passed down to my grandkids. My brother bought a set too and we have contemplated doing a 3 Bunk setup but haven’t yet. They are rated for 300 lbs I believe

Love ice camping. Haven’t had a chance to go yet this year unfortunately. Bunk cots are sweet. Ice invested a lot into equipment in the last few years

I invested a lot into my ice camping setup this year. With me tearing a leg muscle in November ive been waiting for ice to be good enough for quads to get out fishing. Doesn’t look like I’ll get much of a chance to use it. Oh well, coaching basketball takes up a lot of my free time as it is

They have the “easiest” remaining schedule in the NBA, but we’ll see.
They are going to have to make a trade coming up and unfortunately it is going to have to involve Kyle Anderson.
Kyle brings a lot to the team in every aspect besides scoring. He can guard every position, can play every position, and besides Conley is the only person who can run the offense.
If Naz or KAT could play any sort of defense it would be an easier pill to swallow but that is not the case.
The Wolves need more scoring ability. It’s as simple as that. And Kyle is the only player with the right contract to make a trade.
Tyus Jones would probably be the best fit for a trade and Minnesota would love to have him back home.

Listen to Mookie! I wonder what we would need to add on to Kyle to bring in someone like Tyus. I believe Kyle is on an expiring contract so maybe that would be appealing to a team like Washington but i cant imagine they care much about salary relief. They are one of the worst teams in the league and at least 3-5 years away from contention. My assumption is all they would care about is picks. Might take a 3rd team getting involved to get a deal done

Another good one – shredded beef

Jar of pepperoncinis (I don’t use the liquid)
    Package of ranch
    Package of au ju
    Stick of butter
    Chuck roast

When it’s done I like to put the meat onto a Hawaiian bun, add cheese on top and put in the oven under the broiler until the cheese is melted a little charred. Delicious

The packers played pretty well and love played pretty well the 2nd half of the season. As a vikings fan I’m pissed it seems they’ve transitioned to yet another franchise QB. The good news is it was a small sample size. Baker Mayfield was a star after his rookie season. So was Josh Freeman, Vince Young, Carson Wentz, RG3… could go on and on. My hope is they pay him 50m a year and he falls flat.

Oh and that whole youngest team in the league thing is a very overrated statistic. The packers are at the top with an avg age of 25. The cardinals are at #20 with an average age of 26. Sure doesn’t hurt being this young and having success though.

It looks like the division is gonna be tough moving forward. Lions are good, packers are on the rise, Chicago has a ton of assets… I can see the Vikings being the worst team in the division for the next 5 years

Barkley is a bit an idiot but the reason why I like him is that he calls out todays NBA for being soft and a bunch of cry babies. Last night I think he said todays NBA is just a bunch of munchkins.

hes not wrong. a common thing for me to say while watching games is “Bill Laimbeer is rolling over in this grave right now”. I know he isnt dead. Having said that evolution is inevitable and although id much rather watch the Pacers and Knicks play like it was 1995 again, the fact is Chuck would be expendable in todays NBA. Guy would basically be a high energy rebounder off the bench

I will trust your analysis since you know more about basketball than I do, but it seems when I watch the team and him that he is the one screwing up turning the ball over or fouling more than other guys. I never knew of the guy before he came here.

Hes definitely not playing as well as he did last year for us or the years he was in Memphis. I believe this is the final year of his contact. Considering our cap issues i doubt we bring him back although i know Finch loves him

Kyle is a good playmaker, can guard multiple positions and plays solid defense. He can also initiate the offense which is something this team lacks. Hes not excellent at any one thing but he is a solid glue guy. The problem ive had with Kyle this year is hes been hesitant to shoot and opponents are sagging off of him which allows them to double others.

Barkley stopped just short of apologizing for calling Connelly and idiot and the Timberwolves pathetic which was nice to see. He will never apologize for being wrong of course cause i dont think hes that kind of person. If you cant tell im not a fan of his. Hes entertaining i suppose but its hes an idiot. That whole TNT crew is filled with idiots

to big_g’s point about volatile energy prices i believe in California they have peak wattage times where electricity costs more if you use it during this time. I also think i heard MN was considering adopting a similar plan? Could be wrong about that. I wonder how that impacts electric car ownership. Obviously could be more costly to charge it but also wonder if we reach a point where laws will limit usage through methods other than cost increases
