I am going to take a shot in the dark and say that this time of year when release mortality is an issue, and the way the bite is on most lakes in this time period, that most fisherman are not going to be in a position to be tossing back 15″ fish in replace of 17″ers. pretty much all fish that are going to be the released are released immediately.
just trying to expel the notion that culling is illegal in mn cause its not,not saying whats right or wrong in warm water,if I decide to keep a fish for the fryer it typically stays in the livewell unless special circumstances(next fish is deep hooked and wont live anyways, something like that)what people forget is not every situation is always black and white, every fisherman has had some circumstance at least once

I thought culling was illegal in MN??
just a little clarification, culling is not illegal in mn,just certain waters(mille lacs, border waters, special reg waters)you can up-grade or “cull” all day long as long as your possesion limit is not in the livewell.ex. if you have 5 fish in the livewell you can upgrade all day until the 6th fish is reduced to livewell.I have consulted several dnr officers and the mn dnr office and have recieved clarification from them all saying the same thing its perfectly legal as long as you dont have limit in livewell..
I suppose you were so concerned about net lacerations and tail fins bleeding that you hand landed your walleyes huh?maybe they need to look at outlawing nets, they seem to be hazardous weapons.I cant believe you didnt blame the rising gas problems and cwd in minnesota on tournament fisherman also I have fished numerous bodies of water from big water to duck sloughs and seen this issue on fish from all water, never realized it was from nets, just thought it was from post-spawn trauma from rubbing in sand and rocks, learn something new everday.
way to hijack a perfectly good intended post, eveybodys entitled to their .002 worth but you forgot your change
this should be interesting.I wonder how many boaters already registered with the knowledge that this was going to be a “missisippi river/red wing”event?seems the flw might be burning bridges faster than they can build them back. this move may have eliminated some “fence-sitters”like myself that were planning on joining in.hope buffalo slough has stop lights in it
lenny, are you dragging stick with you or is he still mad about mille lacs? where are you and the boys staying.pm me and we can do the 2 things I do best, talk stupid and drink beer.
It truly is dissapointing to know that nowadays the exhileration of winning an event will be accompanied by the “cheating” bullseye by jealous people who cant beat you,or claim to see something to try to answer the only valid question out there, why are these guys so good?
let me explain it for the hard-headed.
95% of all river tournaments(non-professional)are won by a handfull of people.
dean marshall
randy stevens
jim beauliea
eric rehberg
greg vandemark
mike and jason schommer
nesbit and mathees
paul kennebeck
why?
its not a secret and they arent cheating
p.s. they’re good on the river!!!but dont tell anybody
I personally have witnessed on numerous ocassions when they dont have a “check-cashing”weight,they dont weigh, hence the dreaded 0 the day before or the day after a win.there are other people that do well on pool 4 but consistantly winning events is what gets these names recognized year after year, fortunately for me several of the above mentioned have befriended me and bought me a couple of drinks from time to time and I only hope before I die,I can know as much as this collection of people.
Dean,Steve,Randy and Ron dont let the bs from someone elses stupidity diminish what you guys did that weekend,I was there and witnessed all of it and you have NOTHING to feel less about.
MR Fellegy, may all your writing utensils burn up,and your computer contract a virus as to not subject honest people with that line of cheap gossip journalism any longer,I would think mr Zumbos experience would teach you to try not fit both feet in your mouth at the same time!
jim
did you fizz and were you docked for dead fish,I dont remember?I,m not saying the tanks werent warm,I got docked last year at myr mar and it cost me a check(not fizzed)Im just curious who lost fizzed fish and who didnt?
erick,on day 1 at red wing we pulled up to the dock and rick checked there, than you trailered out and pulled over to the bump tanks, colville park had the facilities to do that Im not sure all parks will,it would be tough at the bemidji park, not impossible to do but tough
guys I have been one of those that lost fish on millelacs before and the fizzing seems to work for me in several different environments(from deep water to warm water)to save fish,at least long enough to get through bump lines, and yes millelacs was a kill permit,no fish were returned to the water.
boy am I gonna get hammered for this but read all of my post before getting ruffled.
Scott is trying to prove to you guys a point, maybe why he stressed it 3 times.
The issue here isnt the flws flaws in cooling the bump tanks and guys they will never go to in boat inspections unless they add 10 more staff members, the issue here is mille lacs fish are weak in warm water, this is the only lake we have this problem consistantly on year after year.the issue is fizzing your fish!!!I had a limit by 10 am including 4 before 8:30,when I fizzed them my co-angler was in utter disbelief at how much air was in them and I never pulled a fish that I kept in deeper than 19 ft of water!I also used re-juvinate and went through 20lbs of ice, adding every 30 mins but lets be real, the water your filling your livewell with is surface temp(72-degrees)without sending them into shock you cant cool it dramatically, just stop it from skyrocketing up.to prove my point I would bet that if you started a post about how many fish were or werent lost due to fizzing when they were caught, not 4 hrs later you would see the staggering point Im trying to make and scott and some others here.no the bump tanks did not help any but I personally know of 23 fish that were fizzed with only 1 lost and thats because it had already been in the livewell for 4 hrs.
be gentle on me guys,I probably didnt change anybodys minds
but would be interested to know how many fizzed fish were lost?
great win chad
I pulled my 29incher on fri morn so I knew I wasnt getting another 1 sat
yes we’re going to try and park a camper on the row again for the league but we’re doing the mtt on sunday before and staying at a cabin saturday night,I’ll talk to you guys for the next couple of weekends probably.
eric, you can only sign up if youre limited to weighing 2 fish, give the rest of us a shot
lucky enough to make it as a boater my first 2 years in,jamie if we would have known you were going to finish 5th,we wouldve upped the anty in the card game!
