August 4, 2003 at 7:25 pm #272434I don’t think the point of the post was to “cry a river”. But rather the poster was looking for suggestions on how to deal with the situation. I don’t feel being back doored is part of the game. I don’t think I could sit up front and continue to fish knowing my partner has no place to cast. Are their any BFL boaters out there that have any ideas to improve the situation?
Congratulations on your success SecretSquirel. Sounds like a very good tournament for most anglers. Wish I could have been there.
August 4, 2003 at 5:41 pm #272419I heard Brian Fitzpatrick won it fishing by himself. I hope I’m not starting rumors! Pretty amazing if he did. It wouldn’t be the first time he has done that.
Jeremy must have found a pretty good spot! Should have entered those tournaments.

August 3, 2003 at 3:30 am #272331I have never had a problem with any of my partners when I was a non-boater fishing BFL, some have even became very good friends. I really do enjoy the BFL format and the quality of their tournaments. However I have never had a partner backend me or fish within 5 feet of the bank. I would be very angry also.
Good luck in the upcoming tournaments Keith!
Did the slop bite pick up yet, i look forward to doing alittle slop fishing when i get back to the river.

July 31, 2003 at 6:34 pm #272100I run a 17’ Alamaweld (old Xpress) with a 75 Mariner, great boat for the river. Wish it was a little bigger and faster.

July 16, 2003 at 3:28 pm #270803For those of you who enjoy following these pros, check out http://www.bassfan.com, they have a lot of good info especially in the “dock talk” section. This site reports on just about every pro circuit out there.
One thing I did find interesting was Aaron Martens was caught fishing without a valid fishing license during the FLW on Lake Wheeler. Wheeler FLW 2ND-place finisher Tim Horton (my favorite bass pro) doesn’t want to comment and FLW Outdoors doesn’t want to comment on any rule changes they may be considering.
Check it out, it really is a good site!

July 15, 2003 at 8:43 pm #270731Andy, good luck in your tournament, I think ill have to pass. You might have a little more time on that body of water. Send me a message or email ([email protected]) sometime. I should be in the Winona area before school starts again, alittle fishing, alittle going out. Might check out Red Wing before the BFL for some friends. Are you fishing that?

June 22, 2003 at 4:59 pm #269096Sometimes things dont work out the way you think they will!
I would like to say congratulations to Kavin Villhauer (2nd place non-boater) and Keith Cripe (3rd place non-boater, second tournament ever fished). Keep up the good work!
June 22, 2003 at 4:51 pm #269095I have been kicked out of a couple boat harbors around the Quad Cites, once by the harbors owner and once by a cop. Not sure exactly what the law states, but I do know they could give you a large fine if they feel like being jerks. Seems like more and more of these areas are popping up all the time.
June 20, 2003 at 3:35 am #269003When I was a non-boater in BFL I pre-fished for every tournament. Even though this really didn’t help me at the scales, when I did fish as a boater I benefited from the on water experience (learning the different waters & improving my pre-fishing skills). A friend, who has qualified for back to back all Americans as a non boater, makes sure that he has time for at least a couple hours on the water before each tournament to gain a little confidence. If I was to ever fish BFL again, I would have to say it might be a good idea to copy his approach. Seems like he’s doing pretty well.
June 20, 2003 at 3:20 am #269001Pitbull, maybe if you put your name on your profile RC Tackle could track you down. You might be the Labron James of the Upper Mississippi! Big time contracts will be in your future when you get back into tournament fishing! The competition should be getting nervous. Hope to see you at the BFL in La Crosse.
June 13, 2003 at 3:20 pm #268514When rigging the tube, first place the hook in the tube where you want the weed guard to come out. Push the jig head into the body of the tube and pop the hook eye back out. Pretty east after you do acouple of them. This jig head also features a Mustad Ultra Point flipping hook. I would have to say these super sharp hook seperate this tube jig from others on the market.
+Try inserting a tube rattle, deadly combo!
June 13, 2003 at 4:11 am #268484Sounds like someone wishes they were on the team supreme pro staff…..
Maybe someday pitbull, nevin might even give you one of those yellow shirts and a pack of tubes!
June 13, 2003 at 4:04 am #268483Check out http://www.rctackle.com/Lures/TackleJigs.htm! Might be just what your looking for. Rigging the jig head inside allows tubes to last ALOT longer. Other advantages MAY include better hook ups and more swimming tube possiblilties. You cant forget about the Texas rig altogether but sometimes this does the trick. Being alittle different can go along ways, just think how many times the fish on the upper miss have seen the Texas rigged tube action.
Lansing smallmouth have been none to bite it!
