I have that on VHS but buried deep in storage. A favorite. Referenced last year with my buddy while figuring out our next trip. Ended up on the Minnesota river instead and pounded them. Met some guys that bow fish Mille lacs and get into the big ones. Still on my bucket list.

Do not get caught above the swing bridge this time of year with all that ice.

No, I check after every bite but the hook ratio is pretty good. Circle hooks dragging or anchored and J hooks bouncing.

Plain chicken breast cut in chunks. No need to marinate in Jellow as some down south would suggest. Only gives you red fingers.

Channel cats are going good, Friday night P2 6 fish at 2 AM then by 7:30 out of bait with 35 fish. 14lb biggest with 3 doubles. 2 lines was made for my night fishing, thanks governor. After 3 years of trying, I am 100% chicken breast this time of year and they really eat it. Easier to get than the cut decoy suckers I always used to use. Until the shad get up to eating size (secret cheat code), this is the go to bait for me. Every year several fish over 20 (back to back 20 & 22 last year) right in the metro and unless its a cat tourney, no competition at all at night or during the day. At night there is no tuna boats and very relaxing, no combat fishing with wakes every 5 minutes. Would love to trade notes with anybody chasing these fish.

Fished the confluence coming up from 494 and boats were coming down so the ramp must be open.

That was me stranded on Christmas eve. Launched out of Lions and worked my way up to the airport. Only boat out and lots of floating ice making slow going. When I got to the swing bridge at the airport, the sides were jammed but the middle channel was open. I am wary of jams as I have seen this bridge jammed before. I snuck up to fish and was doing well, the whole time watching the bridge. At one point the amount of ice coming down worried me so I moved back down below the bridge and fished for while but the fishing sucked and I left good fish. Of course I moved back up and started catching fish but then the ice shelf on the west side broke off and swung like a switch blade right across the channel. I quickly motored down to try to break it up to no avail. Floating ice started stacking up and I knew I was in trouble. I started motoring in circles to make waves to break it loose and seemed to make progress but no luck. I thought maybe I could get up to Lilydale or Hidden Falls so I went upstream but found a huge ice jam as far as I could see at St Paul. Not good if this broke loose sending all this ice my way. I went back down and tried one last time to bust it up to no avail. Then I knew I was stranded on Christmas eve, by myself. Figuring the upstream jam could spell trouble so I parked the boat behind a barge on the east shore and hiked out to the highway through the gravel company. Ubered back to the truck and went home. Went back on Christmas morning and the bridge was still jammed. I started doing circles again and made some progress but still no go. Decided to fish a little and popped a few but then I noticed a mass of floating ice coming down telling me the St Paul jam let loose. I went back to the jam with renewed vigor knowing all that ice coming would make it impossible. I got an opening started and blasted the boat into it and powered through. Angels sang! Of course I had to motor down to Lions and Uber back up to my truck. Once back to Lions I decided to fish and called in “sick” to my family Christmas. Being single has advantages. The lesson is to watch your pinch points with floating ice.

Watch out for pinch points with floating ice! Don’t get trapped.

Good question. last Sunday I measured 6″ coming out of the Ws side Bayport, easy pulling except for scattered slush. Many others out there, mostly out of Mn side. I was going Sat but think the weather this week probably messed it up so I am taking the boat to the Mississippi. Going to give it at least a day to heal.

email your app to [email protected] and ask for a appointment to have him put the tag on your net. Then you are good to go. You will get a log that must be maintained and sent in at the end of the year. Shad are thick on middle Pool 2 and Bay point park bay at Redwing. One good throw, bring a 5 gallon pail to unload your bounty
