Idle is good now, and no more smoke, after more fine-tuning of the idle adjust.
Still isn’t picking up fuel, but I think I have it narrowed down to the stupid primer bulb!
Firing on all 3, still haven’t checked the compression… but it seems to be running great as long as there’s gas present.
There IS still a cough every once in a while, however.
I think I need to stop buying Atwood primer bulbs…

i had a problem like that, went thru and changed many items . No help. Another mechanic checked the carb bowl, found a micro-crack.. Used dye-penetrant testing to see crack.. Replaced carb bowl and good to go, no problems. Hope is helps
Newexplorer
I HOPE that’s not it.
The bowl and carb are one cast unit on this thing.
I haven’t compression tested it yet.
Thought of a couple other options which I’m about to go check into.
Okay, aside from the smoke, it appears as though it starved of fuel. I’ve been getting into the habit of disconnecting the fuel line from the tank when I’m ready to get off the water, and letting the motor burn up the rest of the fuel in the lines.
Last night, when I did this, I noticed that the motor had no problem pulling the rest of the fuel. ALL of the fuel in the line… all the way down to the tank connection.
I’m thinking it might be sucking air, and I have to replace the connection to the tank.
My other possibility regarding the fuel… I did not replace the check valve in the fuel pump.
The fuel line connections and that check valve are the only things that have not been replaced in the fuel sys.
Time to go play in the rain!

That should do it for you.

Another option would be to do a system restore from Saturday… Are there any negatives to this?
Outside of it being a serious pain in the butt, no.
You should be fine with the FF option… there’s no reason to want to use IE anyway, except that it’s initial load speed is quite a bit better. Other than that, it’s useless in terms of security.November 2, 2009 at 3:07 pm #813283Am I too Late?
I’m surprised this wasn’t suggested, but it’ll be a super-easy idea for your NEXT 80’s-themed thing
October 29, 2009 at 9:24 pm #812612Ah… Lou Dobbs.
I’m not going to go into any details regarding his staff’s inability to fact-check the crap they put up on his teleprompter… The truth is, regardless how acurate or inaccurate his description of the provisions of the the bill is, the video is from June 2007 and the bill is long dead. It never became law, and it never will.
But, yeah…. He’s just a pawn who should be ignored, btw.

Seafoam is a petroleum-based product.
While proper coating will prevent corrosion, it will also strip oil from the places that need it.October 28, 2009 at 2:16 pm #812183Quote:

That’s the first thing I thought, too.
Why would you ride that fast… just because you can? Now, I don’t use my phone for any reason while driving, but I fail to believe the driver of the VW didn’t see the bike because she was on her phone.
A crotch rocket traveling 85mph is GOING to be difficult to see for anybody… especially if we’re talking about night driving, congested driving conditions, winding or hilly roads… all kinds of variables… all of which pose distractions that are further complicated by that stupid piece of electronics you have attached to your ear.
Anyway, I digress.
Hang up the phone? Yes.
More importantly, drive with modesty, respect and safety in mind at all times.

Not all “Premium” fuel is ethonal free. They have to mark the pumps stating that it is. Otherwise, it has the same amount as the other grades.
I realize that. What I meant was, with the exception of the few stations around that have no EtOH in ANY of their grades, the low-octane fuels(i.e. regular and super grades) will always have EtOH content.

Information only, not trying to upset anyone. I have been told by a couple outboard techs, that running higher than recommended octane gas would only shorten plug life by sooting them up faster. That is for what it’s worth only.
Might be true, might not be. I don’t think my ’74 Merc cares a whole lot.
The problem is that premium fuel is almost always the only way to avoid ethanol… which the Merc does care about.
October 23, 2009 at 5:19 pm #811101I agree with TC 100%.
And good luck lining everything up correctly. Like Chucker implies, getting the shift shaft right is not a particularly easy task. Even when you’re pretty dang sure you got it, you might end up stuck in reverse. If that happens, the only thing you can do is drop the LU and try again… and again… and again… until you get it right.

How is a chair that can go 20mph and dent a car in a parking lot not a vehicle? Is a lawn mower? Go cart? 4 runner? Snowmobile? Boat?
Maybe you dont bust the guy at .09, but at .29 in that thing he is a severe danger to others.
That’s the point that changed my opinion, exactly.
Again, it’s not like the guy was on a home-made mobility scooter capable of going all of 5mph (a brisk walking pace) as I assumed after reading the first post.
I do still think it’s funny though. Not because of the potential dangers, or the DWI, etc… More like, “How dumb does a guy have to be?”

No, I am not.
Please see my last post.
“The guy didn’t ‘put a lawn mower engine in a lazyboy recliner’.”

These things are heavy and go 20 mph, fast enough to kill a kid. Yeah, dont stalk him to bust him, but .29 and running into a car, that is a DWI 100% of the time IMO.
No room for a slap on the wrist here.
Hmm, I admit that I had a little misconception based on the original post. The guy didn’t “put a lawn mower engine in a lazyboy recliner”.
Rather, he built (or purchased???) a pretty bada** looking machine.
As I understand, it’s going up for auction in Proctor(?) soon.
[anyway, the STORY is still kinda funny]

I didn’t read the story but feel your reply has a lack of common sense and thought. You may not feel drunk driving is wrong but your also not the one responding to their accidents and pulling their or an innocent persons dead body out of the car or ditch. Way to throw in the salary comment. That really shows how smart you are.
DT
Dead Bodies?
Cars in Ditches?
This is about a guy operating… LITERALLY… a Lazyboy recliner with a lawnmower engine on it.
Yes, he was intoxicated.
That doesn’t change the fact that we’re talking about a piece of furniture with a Tecumseh bolted to it.
Somehow, I don’t think Stealthy is suggesting… not even a little… that an OWI is okay.

My main problem with Macs… that price tag doesn’t keep it from becoming just as obsolete as a PC in the same amount of time.
I’m just sayin’

I just installed Avg…it tells me the file WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fio32.dll is the infected file with a worm called koobface.l . Having something in this file is a bad deal, and AVG is telling me to do something with it but I believe this is a required file to run. I sure hope Mr Koobface knows he’s in for some “bad” stuff if I catch up with him. I ran the Hijack scan…could not see anything terrible in there although there must be.
fio32.dll is NOT a Windows file.
Do as AVG says… delete it immediately, and scan again.
If you attempt to delete it manually (which I don’t suggest, let AVG do it), you might get a window that says the file is in use. If you see this message, go into your task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), click the “Processes” tab, scroll down until you see any process bearing a strong resemlence to “fio32.dll” or “koobface”. Highlight and hit “End Process” on any such entries, and then attempt to delete that .dll file. There is a VERY good chance that there are one or more registry keys that need to be removed. So if you’re still experiencing trouble, feel free to send that HijackThis log, and I can point out anything that needs to go.
[edit]

stop using McAfee and get a free anti-virus like AVG.
+1. ESPECIALLY “stop using McAfee”
AVG or Avast (use Avast personally).
In terms of fixing your problem, give me a little more information about what exactly is infecting your machine, and I might be able to help you out with some simple instructions.
First, I need you to download and run an application. It’s safe. All you’re going to do with it right now is use it to generate a log of your computer’s registry.
The program is HijackThis, and you can get it for free HERE
Download it, run it, tell it to scan your machine and “save a log file”.
Open up the log file when it’s done, highlight and copy all of it’s contents, and PM it to me. This should give me enough info to determine what you’re dealing with there.

Squeaky-clean carbs. Check.Fired her up for the first time in nearly 8 weeks yesterday… No choke, no idle throttle.

But of course, on the way home one of the leaf springs on the trailer just HAD to break on me!

September 18, 2009 at 3:56 pm #805074Thanks for the tips, guys.
I’d really love to be able to walk into a place today and walk out with a pair of these… unfortunately, I don’t need $30-worth of fasteners. I didn’t see these on any of Fastenal’s product pages, either.
The deeper I get into searching, the closer I get however.
I found a bunch on eBay, and most of them are being sold as ‘Ignition Box Mounts’. It seems these are used pretty frequently in street racer-type cars…. okay, I’ll say it… RICERS.
A couple are sold under the Mallory and Drag Specialties brand-names.
So, if I had a crappy Mazda I wanted to rice out, where would I go in Madison?
