    Hey Bryan,

Not much was biting that week. But the lake is beautiful. We were finding fish on the graph they just weren’t biting. A guy in the campgrounds next to us caught a very nice walleye but he even he said he had to work for it. It was really hot that week too.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the suggestions.

I looked on the Navionics website and didn’t see any reefs. But I’m still learning how to read their contour maps. So they might be on there.

I did find the Baptist Church Camp.

In Mid July I’m guessing the walleye are going to be in the bottom of the deepest holes in the lake?

    Whats the weed structure like?

Thanks BigWerm. I’m going to guess 2018 is going to be pretty close to the same length.

LOL… yeah Lindy that’s me. I’m THAT guy. LOL… But seriously… We had an utter blast at Fisher’s last year. Dean and Sue are awesome and Gene… well… What can we say about Captain Gene Miller. He’s been Thunder Struck… by something…

I figured I’d treat my buddy to a little thunder struck too. He’s never latched on to anything bigger than a bass. A 40″ pike or muskie would blow his mind.

I just know Sue had said when we were there on a windy day that there were other lakes that might be less rough that we could go to if we were willing to take our boat there.

Thought I’d check to see if any of them are any good. I’ll check out Big Sandy and Farm Island though.

    Thanks for tip…

I honestly have never heard of guides charging for gas and bait. To me that is part of the package…

    Me 3…

To me a guide is going to be better motivated to get you into fish closer to your AO than take you clear across a 14 mile lake to his one honey hole…

Gene had us into a 38″ Pike right out front of our resort. In less than 15 minutes. Not 28 gallons later.

So what is the solution? Everyone that can’t do anything about it can see the problem. But don’t have a realistic solution. Everyone that can do something about it uses their powers to grant advantage to one group or another.

We just keep the status quo until it all breaks down?

I do what I can. And open to ideas.

    -J.

    As am I Jon.

The cards are stacked against us. It’s only going to get worse. It’s the in thing to be a minority right now. And protest. And cause all kinds of disruptions. Because our politicians are soft and bend to them and their desires. Not rights but desires. I don’t foresee our politicians changing anytime soon.

Mille Lacs is just the start. Wait for Red Lake or Leech. It’s only a matter of time. Mille Lacs is a test.

If I can go on a lake and catch all the fish I can with my family then I have had an enjoyable experience. I could care less if I can keep a “limit”. I think people are losing sight that angling is a sport not a means to feed a family.

And if Canada has found a revenue stream with one of their resources such as netted walleye for me to eat at a resort then good for them. Isn’t that the definition of capitalism? Provide a service or product for a fee?

You’re against the eating of netted walleye but what about the codd or salmon or tuna? Is there a difference? Why are there not walleye farms for commercial sales for walleyes?

Not trying to start anything Jon. Just my two cents.

Then what do you recommend to fix the problem Jon?

OMG Andy I did try the “Experience” That was a great meal.

The Prime Rib at Castaways was another great on.

I have to be honest let those nah sayers whine about not getting to keep fish. As long as I’m catching fish I’m having a blast. Kept or not.

Suzy one of the owners of Fisher’s said she thinks the DNR is conditioning everyone so that when they offer to allow one fish per day to be kept everyone will jump on it rather than hold out for a bigger limit.

I am however going to need a bigger boat if I’m going to fish bigger waters… Better start working on the honey for that. LOL…

You show up with rain gear, life jackets and beverages of choice. You use his rods, his lures. Matt rigs them and gets them in the water. You just sit and wait for “fish on!!!” You get up from your seat, take the rod out of the holder and start reeling them in. You get near the boat and Matt lands them in a net. He takes the hook out and holds them up for a quick pic before they go right back into the water. And then your off for your next one. We had two in the boat in the first 30 minutes of our trip.

We were the morning group. The afternoon group came back with the skunked flag flying which means they caught nothing.

Cost is $50 per person, minimum of 3 people for 4 hours. You troll two hours north, turn around and troll back. We were staying at Fisher’s Resort. He came and picked up at their dock and we were off.

    It was awesome.

He’s on facebook. Go to Gene Miller Muskie Trips and check it out.

You cannot go wrong with Gene Miller. This guy is a hoot and can get you in the fish. We were a party of 5 and 4 of us caught some monster pikes. No Muskies but for a group that has never caught a fish longer than 3 feet the pike more that made up for it. We will hire Gene every time we go to Mille Lacs from now on. Great time was had by all.

Matt is his deck hand and he was great as well since Gene drove and Matt set the rigs and landed the fish. Good team.

Thanks guys for a great trip.

Hey guys I’m back!!! Trip of a life time!!! Caught a total of 56 fish for the week. Ranging from a little 10″er to several 22″s, 24″s and a 25″er. I know it’s not a record breaker but the wind was not cooperating (at all). We did get out twice on calm smooth waters. Other than that we had to pick and choose when to be on and when not. I had fully restored my boat last year and wasn’t sure how it would perform on rough water. It did well. I had planned to launch all over the lake and try different places but with the wind the Launch Captain gave me coordinates to 3 places that produced fish so we stuck with them. Regardless we had a blast. Ate the Walleye at Castaways and we had a breakfast at Toucan’s.

Captain Gene Miller did not disappoint with his guide services. He was able to get 4 out of 5 of us some monster pikes. No Muskies. But for 4 people that have never caught a fish over 3 feet long it was the trip of a lifetime. I’ll be posting more on my thread about his services later.

Alright guys… I’m heading there tomorrow morning. When I get back to work on Monday the 26th I’ll have a report. Hopefully with some pix.

Thanks a ton for all the insight for this lake. I hope I can put it to good use.

I just have a 16.5′ Deep-V Pikemaster. Not much of a match for rough water. Plus the wife is green as they come so I don’t want to terrify her on her first trip. Not to mention I’m not much of a fan of it either.

I am quite flexible and open to launching in other areas of the lake. I’m going there to catch fish. I actually plan to head to Cedar Creek Public Access and maybe cast some pumpkin tubes or drift some slip bobbers over the rocks in Twin Bays. If it’s not too busy with other boats. If that doesn’t work I planned to venture farther out to Hawkbill Reef, The Graveyard or Hennepin Island and explore that a little bit.

Another day I plan to venture out of Fisher’s Harbor and explore Agate Bay Reef, Flamingo and Lakeside and see what I can drum up.

Not sure where the main breaklines are that Will speaks of but I have the Tutt Map and maybe Daron can point me in the right direction. The problem is I’ve never seen changes in make up of the bottom on my graph before so I don’t know what to look for. I’ve never tried leadcore before and I’m itching to try it. Sounds like this would be a great place to try. I also have a wind sock. Someone I know said you can’t troll Mille Lacs without one. Got a 50″ so I’m itching to see how that works.

I don’t even know why I’m at work. I can’t focus right now for nothing. Tomorrow will take forever to end.

    Wow… that is just crazy!!!

I remember as a kid we were in Canada at a souvenir shop and it had a lure the size of a small duck and I remember thinking. Nothing would bite that.

Ducks!?!? That’s just insane!!! Oh man… I hope one of us in our group lays into a nice monster… My wife who doesn’t have any experience in this sort of stuff asked me if Gene guaranties fish. I laughed and said the Muskie is the fish of 1000 casts. The odds are greater that we’ll get skunked then catch one. But if we catch one… Looooooook out.

Just checking in. Any changes or adjustments I should know about before we leave on Saturday?

I wish Walleyevision would check in. I’m guessing he’s still out on the lake.

That’s great to hear guys. Gene sounds like a great guy over the phone. I’m really looking forward to it.

IceNeyes… Be sure to report back with us after your trip. And post any pix if you hook into a monster!!!

Mike… I noticed on his FB page that on every video he has Thunderstruck playing in the background. Hilarious. Good thing I like that song. My favorite pic on his FB is this one…

I am getting sooooo stocked at this point. I have my contour maps, way points and homework done. Just got my Terrova wired and I’m ready to rock this lake.

If I can get the wife into a few good bites I’ll be happy. I don’t need a 100 fish day.

Thanks for all the guidance though. We leave Saturday and I’ll report back on Monday the 26th.

I’ll definitely be checking back here as the week progresses so if the lake changes any please post it here!!!

I have not heard of Power Cork. What is that?

So try either technique when I mark fish? Check the drop offs of the mud flats? Plus if I don’t have much action in 15 to 20 minutes move on?
