After the weather broke up tonight, deer started moving like crazy, had 8 does come through within 15 yds including a couple like this one right under the tree!

Very good morning. 6 does/fawns and 2 small bucks. Lots of grunting and bleating going on? Had two small bucks sparring 10yrds away on video. Tonight i am going to try the horns lightly. Hopefully this little bit cooler weather gets them moving
Very cool! What kind of cam and cam arm do you have in that pic?
that is a muddy outdoors camera arm with a cannon hd video camera. Not sure the exact model, but it costs $1200 and does anything a big shoulder camera does. We ended up shooting a doe that night and are in the process of editing and putting the video together

May 31, 2012 at 12:51 pm #120913CWD will never go away completely.. Theres just no way to stop it, i also believe many deer have it. Like two other people have stated, let mother nature do its job.

We believe this deer was the shed we found on the top left.
Do you mean the dead buck? If so, I don’t think it’s the same buck. The left G-2 kickers look different to me and so do the right G-2 kickers.
Great finds! Congrats!
If you look at the picture of the sheds, I was referring to the one on the top left. I didnt mean the dead buck. Sorry!
I still think it’s a different buck. Isn’t the live buck pictured a mainframe 8 with a split G-3 on his right side and the shed is a main frame 5 point with a split G-2?
Ya know, it’s really hard to tell. Holding the sheds and comparing to the trail camera pic made it look like the same buck, but it does look different in the pictures. Either way, I’m just glad we had a fun time finding sheds

Wow, nice finds!! Do you happen to have any trail camera pics of these deer?
I do of one of them. I posted it up last year but when I get on a real computer I’ll post another. Solid bucks, one died as you can see, but otherwise got some brutes runnin the woods

This is a free FTP site. You could upload the video files to it and the editor can download.
Very cool! Thank you!

dem deer, what video software are you using for editing?
You may be interested in the turkey hunting video contest going on right now.
We use windows live movie maker and an editing software that we downloaded with our camera. Very neat, lots of options, and lots of confusion for beginners. Once you get used to it, the features are endless with so many editing possibilites.
As far as the turkey contest, we are currently editing some footage of a turkey hunt last week that we were lucky enough to record on camera!

East of mile lacs in mn. Another question this brings up is how to send files this large?
I’d have to ask my brother, but there is a way as my dad sends us footage from northern mn sometimes for us to edit. I will check back with you tonight on that.May 11, 2012 at 11:15 am #120582My brother is crazy good with editing footage! If anything, you guys could send us some of your footage, we’ll edit, and then show you what we came up with? I don’t know, just a thought i’d be willing to take advantage of.
I just think we could have some fun with this!
Todders, where do you hunt?
May 4, 2012 at 2:50 pm #120402Last year was the earliest i have ever seen one. It was April 4. This year, i saw my first fawns on april 29
April 27, 2012 at 5:19 pm #120222Went out this morning near Blair Wi and saw 3 toms, 3 jakes, and a hen. Birds hung up at 100yds so no shot. Tomorrow morning we will be giving dirt naps… I hope.
April 12, 2012 at 5:37 pm #53975Picked about 2lbs here in La Crosse county yesterday. Still nothing spectacular, but they should really be popping in about 1-2weeks?

That brings up the question of how you guys rig up your decoys… I’m going to switch a number of mine over to “Texas rigged” this year. Seems like an awesome (tangle free) way to store, carry, put out and pick up decoys… With the grab loop at the top (by the keel), just being able to grab the loop, letting the decoy slide down the line, clip the loop to a caribeaner and go (instead of having to wrap decoy lines around the keel or head) seems like a major improvement over a lot of my setups from years ago…
Example of Texas Rig for those who aren’t familiar = http://www.txwaterfowler.com/html_pages/duck_hunting/texas_rigged_decoys/texas_rigged.htm
Texas Rigging is the way to go
December 15, 2011 at 1:48 pm #116816Duck boats are important keys to duck hunting itself. Yeah, mudbuddys are talked highly of. But to me, my 16ft semi-v with 25hp evinrude works just fine for me. My 111 ducks and 4 geese will back that up. The boat goes through hell every year, so take that into account when buying your duck boat.
This year me and a buddy made our own boat blind for hunting the last 4 days of the duck season. Worked very well. The first pic is of the first day we had the boat blind in action. We got a 3 man limit. The blind itself does not mount or attach to the boat in any way so it is very portable and easy to use. The top half of the blind has flip open doors on each side as you can see in the first pic (the ducks are laying on the flip open door). The blind, when not in use, folds up and lays right in the boat! For grass, my buddy has tons of pompus grass in his backyard. We shoved pompus grass under chicken wire to camo the outside. As you can see, the blind does not cover the whole boat. So to camo the rest, we ziptied huge bundles of that grass and then ziptied them to the boat. We also made huge grass mats to lay over the side, front, and back of the boat for more camo. This blind turned out awesome! We even used my heater to stay warm the last weekend of the duck season which was very comfortable.
For a 16year old, i would take my rig over most others. Ive hunted out of true duck boats and the mudbuddys are nice, not gonna lie. But truly, keep it simple.
Duck hunting isnt easy, and your equipment will go through hell. Ive learned that very easily the last couple years.Sorry for the blurry pics. I couldnt get them to turn out clear.
Enjoy
December 15, 2011 at 1:50 am #116802I like the second pic. If thats supposed to be a can, you did very well!
December 7, 2011 at 1:49 pm #116374Gotta love “God’s Country”. No ducks in this pic, but the river is a thing of beauty.
December 5, 2011 at 5:51 pm #116277Good way to end my year. Shot my limit saturday mornin and got a 3man limit sunday. Total for this year: 111 ducks, 4 geese!
