I have been waiting to head up to the river until the last weekend of the walleye season, it seems recent reports have been slower than a few weeks ago. Do you guys expect fishing to pick back up when the water clears and starts to warm up a bit more? Or did I miss my chance at a good walleye bite? Thank you, this will be my first spring trip to the river.

Question for those with experience fishing the Spring Rainy River bite. Does An early thaw help any certain time to head up there? I have a cabin rented April 8th-11th. Reading reports from years past it seems after a few weeks of open water, the big and little fork rivers break loose then a week of waiting goes by and after that the bite is great with the warming water? Is there a chance at warmer water during the open season this year? I have never been able to make it up, just done a lot of research so I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Thanks for all the input guys, I think I’ve decided against the Johnson after hearing the bad about that. The Evinrude I will have to do a little more checking on. I appreciate all the information. With that being said, anyone have a used 17-18’ boat for sale around $10-12k? Lol

Do you guys usually go as soon as the accesses open up or does the bite get any better when the water warms up?

One more question for you guys,
Are there other boat ramps in the area that are private that you can pay a fee to launch at?

Thank you guys, I appreciate all the feedback. I’m really looking forward to giving it a shot! I have thought about it for a couple years, and I think this is the year I will finally make it. Good Luck to everyone else that will be out there. 👍🏼
