Rainy lake north west side is hard to beat.

Another lake that has some super tanker pike is lake burntside. Not big numbers but some fish well over 25#

    And Devils lake ND.

This has been a good thred. Lots of info and although most approaches are very much the same its pretty cool hearing the small differences in everyones approach.

I feel im a pretty darn good pitcher. But im always open to new techniques. I learn new thing from everyone i share the boat with.

Try to picture your bait as you fish it. Is it at the bottom or at least near the bottom? Is it swimming like it were alive? Or is it laying on its side on the bottom dragging mud?

Try and swim it slow. Use the lightest jig you can and still tell where you are in the water column. With practice youll find you can fish a very light jig and know exactly where you are and picture what your jig is doing. Experiment with colors and different plastics/hairs etc.

This is a personal prefrence but i would suggest using about a 6 pound mono. This allows using that light jig. Also use a hi vis line. Watching your line will give you lots of clues on whats going on down under even if you cant feel it. Like contact with the bottom or a strike on the drop.

A slow drop is key to catching more fish expecially in cold water months.

Hope some of this rambling might help ya good luck

I too use jiggin raps from time to time one open water. Going to a faster tip and mono helps a ton on lost fish. Lots of times you hook them on either the front or back hooks and when they start head shaking whipping that long hevy lure around you need that extra streatch in your line and fast tip rod to keep the line tight.

get a wired fence! you can make it any shape you need you can keep them out of flower gardens or areas you dont want them to SH** in.. sport dog makes a good one that is a yard colar and a training colar in one and it works very well.. not sure of the model but will save you cash compaired to two seprate colars!

looks like right now would be a good time to buy..

these are not the fastest rigs but they are tuff.. ive owned and destroyed several toher atv but my old honda had been cabled to trees during floods two time so as it wouldnt get swept away. rolled crashed beat to hell and she still runs like new 14 years later.. pulls my wheel house out. and really I have never found anything it couldnt pull.. on trail rides you wont get stuck like the bigger rigs. you can float across a lot they will sink into. they might get there first but who cares.. price is right on these, they pull whatever you need, and they last!

This is very interesting to see all the opinions on lake Erie.

I seen this stuff years ago watching a documentary the did on erie walleye fishing. They were fishing and keeping tons of 10+ walleyes and its encouraged to do so there! they showed maps of schools of fish they were following and some of the schools were like 10 miles long and 2 or 3 miles wide and made up of adult fish many over 10 pounds. It is very hard to imagine. and its hard for some of us to understand that taking these big fish is good for the ecosystem but in eries case it is.. and those 10 pounders taste just as good as any 20 incher..

I fish the river a lot and i let everything go over 20 inches I try and keep those 16 to 18 inch fish.. I think many of the guys that fish the river a lot follow much the same rules that they make for themselves.

you know If i were to decide to keep larger fish I would be within my rights and be breaking no laws.. I would not be harming the ecosystem.. but I too like you guys want to keep that fish in the water to give myself or you a chance at that fish when its a bit bigger..

If I were to go to Erie I would keep the big fish and not have a second thought on it.. I guess I understand that every body of water is much different from the next.. read the rules on the body of water your fishing and fish and keep whatever is legal and within your own rules you set for yourself. be happy and proud of doing what you believe in.. Dont look down on the other guy that dont follow your personal rules as long as they are within the law.. maybe take the time to educate yourself on the water your fishing instead of crying some one dont have the same view as you!!!

just read threw this post.. very interesting and not really too surprising on the differeces of opinions..

so I thought I would just put my 2cents in..

Im a bow hunter and love our long season. most of my family and many friends are gun hunters and have been forever.. as long as I remember the gun season has been in the first couple weeks of november. Its been this way for a long time.. Lots of people like it this way.

I say leave it alone.. It works.. we do have good deer in Minnesota. as a matter of fact we probly have the best deer herd of any state that has the hunter numbers we do.. Dont compair MN to Iowa the herd there has little to do with there gun season not being in the rut.. The reason Y is there simply arnt the hunter numbers in Iowa and they keep it that way!

I love our state we can buy a tag over the counter hunt every year there are good quality deer out there..

so let the gun hunters have there fun they are entitled to it.. just as us bow hunters get to have ours.. we get the first weeks in sept. that to me are far better than the rut anyway. (my opinion)

    ok thats my 2 cents

I hope all of you shoot a monster… good hunting
