OK looks like there are quite a few Lake Master cards out there for my unit. The new versions dont work according to what I have read.

There are versions of Lakemaster from 1-7 on line. Again I have a Gen 2 Helix 9.
There are used ones on Marketplace.
But then I found this on a compatability chart from Hummingbird.
“Older LakeMaster cards that were compatible with competitor fish finders WILL NOT work with Humminbird products”

I would assume that as long as I dont get one of the VK versions that the card would work.

Just dont know what I should buy. Lakemaster and Lakemaster plus are supposed to work????

maybe I am over thinking this…LOL

    Thanks again for your input

    Helix 9 SI GPS Gen2

Tried out the unit tonight on Pepin.

The Navionics card works. The 10 Ft depth highlight was working but I didn’t dive too deep into functionality.

The previous owner must have been using it out there in California.

But based on some of the comments above I will go with the Lakemaster.

I will just sell the Nav Card and recoop a few dollars for it.

IF anyone is interested its a USA and Canada version.

    Thanks everyone for your inputs.

Be sure to look in the leech box and make sure you are getting what you think. Bought a LG leech box and got mostly panfish size.

Didn’t use many of them. Found trolling Rattle Raps in 6-8 feet of water early mornings and late afternoon evenings over rock was the ticket. Didn’t have much luck during the day.

Large sunfish are pretty much off the beds or have been hit so hard there are not many left.

There are still some bass on the nests.

That was my week June 18-25th

Trwht57 was correct. It was my prop also causing my noise.

Iowaboy1 and I were hot on that trail also, you just beat me to it.
Tried out the new prop today and quiet as a mouse. Who would have Thunk a noise like that would be caused by the prop???????

I want to thank EVERYONE who contributed ideas and suggestions too this thread. Gotta LOVE TEAMWORK and now everyone who read or participated in this thread will be able to pass on the information about this issue to someone else.

    Tight lines everyone!

I was not able to recreate the noise out of the water with or without the prop.

    No worries my friend.
Its all good when solutions are found. That is the next thing I was going to try. Was supposed to switch out to my old damaged prop but completely forgot all about it. So guess what I am going to do next….

See told ya. I am no mechanic by trade.

I am no mechanic, by trade anyway, but I do believe that the Drive Shaft bushing is UNDER the water pump. And I believe you can not run without it because the water would contaminate the LU oil.

If the weather ends up being a washout tomorrow I might pull the LU and see if I can get the Key out of the keyway and try to grease it.
But I need to ensure that all the things I have done hasnt fixed the issue. At least mine.

    question
Did you let it warm up or try it cold? I just went and dipped mine on the trailer and the sound was not present at any RPM.
BUT after getting home I had the thought that maybe I should have let it warm up and try it again.

Is it possible you just had a widget that took you to the homepage?

Ya I probably had a shortcut that I deleted by mistake.
    Thanks

I had that same issue years ago, about 2011. Local boat guys didn’t know what the noise was from. Next time I was in the shop talking about the issue a Yamaha rep over heard the conversation and knew exactly what the issue was, local guys did not. It was I believe an incorrct size plastic bushing and when replaced with the correct part have had no further issues.

Ok thanks for posting but Where was that bushing?

Thanks, I’ll check those things out. The ringing noise is very annoying. I’m hoping it’s not a bearing somewhere. There’s no vibration and it only happens between 1,000 and 1,500.

Im with you on that one.

Yep thats a GREAT recording of the sound. That is exactly the same as mine.
I was not able to water test the motor due to maint on the pull vehicle but plan on trying in in the next day or so. I did find that my prop is a low quality prop and one of the fins is not the same as the others and where the hub and fin are attached is very thin compared to the old prop I took off that is damaged. What I might do though is put the old prop on jsut to test and see if the noise goes away. IF it does then I know the problem. Stay tuned

Hillhiker I will add those to the list of things to check.

This is what I have done so far.
!. Taken Iowaboy1’s suggestions…LOL THANKS FOR THE HELP
2.Checked the lower unit for oil. If low could be a dry bearing in LU.
found it to be slightly low and as it should so filled it up.
    3. Took the prop off and noted that the nut didn’t seem as tight as it should have been. Started the motor and put in gear to check the out shaft for straightness. No movement.
4.Ran to problem area RPM’s but could not replicate the sound in with LU NOT engaged.
5.Put in gear and repeated with same result.
6.Took the motor cover off to check for water leaks found none.
    7. Installed prop and torqued to 45# and repeated steps 4 and 5 same results

So next thing to do is get it in the water and try it again. I also am to check all mounting bolts to ensure everything is tight and not creating a vibration/harmonizing sound.
Iowaboy1 thinks that if it comes back when in the water, it may be a bearing in the LU. Which under pressure from the prop would start the condition. If it comes back I am to drain the LU and inspect for metal in the oil.

THANKS ALL FOR THE SUGGESTIONS! I will keep you posted but it looks like it will be next week before weather clears enough to try it out.

Iowaboy1 has been in contact with me and we are working through a few tests to see if we can id the issue. I will post the results when I can.

for the Price you are looking at I would say Fenwick. Watch in the spring a place like Reeds runs a sale on them and mark them down where if you buy the Rod the reel is free. I just got another HMG fenwick half off during the Pure fishing sale for 60 dollars so that was a great deal.

Well that sounds like a hell of a deal!!!! Maybe I will just hold off then.
    Thanks

    LOL

BTW I got the city to plow off the ramp here in town but a little to icy for me to try it by myself today.

We can put a robot on Mars but we can not manufacture a boat dash that does not crack. WTF people? These boat people need to get up with 2000’s technology.

Unfortunately ALL plastics break down over time. That glaze that gets on the inside of your windshield in your car is the chemicals coming out of the plastics. (unless your a smoker) There are UV protection chemicals they put in the plastic but over time they will break down. Going thicker would help but then you add weight and cost.

The boat I just bought does not have any cracks currently so going to apply a vinyl conditioner to try to stop it from happening.

tongue in cheek…YOU GUYS HAVE GOT TO QUIT BEATING UP YOUR BOATS. LOL

I troll a shallow lake quite often. 5-7 fow. I stay small for the most part but speed up the presentation as the water warms up. As the water temp increases they will chase more. The lake is dirty so time of day really doesnt seem to affect them as much. Good luck

I am surprised by the big range in pricing that you guys are telling me about. Hopefully I can find something in the 7-800 range otherwise a cheapy will have to do for a couple of years. I am writing down all the names and will check in with them.
    Thanks all again.

Come on clarence…rusty trailers and slimy carpet!
You can always Start chiseling hastings and busting up ice with that clean boat lol

The ice is pretty thick out there right now. So I dont think its going to be a possibility this year to hit “The Spot”.

Curious why not go with an open boat in the winter ? Salt spray ? I’m trying to figure out what to do with my trailer in an unheated garage . It’s already rusting the way it is – don’t really want to leave it salty !
    [/quote]

Ya dont want all the salt spray in the boat. Not interested in having to deal with that. If the roads are dry then will probably be more likely to consider it.

As far as the rusting…I would consider hitting the nearest to home car wash and get the salt off ASAP.
