I’ve used Knutson’s Live Bait in the past with good success. I was turned on to them by a friend and I have never shopped prices or shipping rates. I usually order the extra bright maggots and have never been disappointed. I already have my order in the refrigerator awaiting ice. Shipping seems a bit high, but quality is always superb!

After a week of trial and error I think I finally came up with something that should work. I picked up a set of Kolpin Rhino Grip XL Gun Mounts at Cabela’s for $23. I initially wanted to mount these to the sled, but I couldn’t find an ideal spot for that. I wound up mounting them to the bottom pole (when shelter is deployed). This allowed me to get the auger off the sled and opened up room to even get a stack of buckets under it. I also used some shorter bolts than the ones provided to keep my fabric from snagging. If you don’t have shorter bolts, the mounts came with caps to put over the ends of the bolts. While on the water, I don’t have to adjust the mounts or take them off to maintain a functional flip over. If you want to put your cover on, simply remove the auger and fold the mounts down. These mounts are also removable by simply pulling the catch clip and removing the mount. Due to the mount being so close to the pole bracket, I think this will provide extra support and you shouldn’t have to worry about bending or breaking a pole. I also think this should be a universal option across all flip over makes and models.

LOL! There’s an idea! It’s not a weight issue, but a sled footprint issue. I’m moving from a longer sled to the Legend XL sled which is more square than rectangular. I’m just having issues getting everything but the kitchen sink packed into that sled. If I had a way to get the auger off the pile and into its own space I would be in business. Maybe like an ATV gunrack type system that could be turned down when not in use…IDK!

I really figured more people had done something like this to free up floor space while pulling on foot. Thanks for the suggestions.

It was a great way to start off the ice season. I think Andy caught a couple dozen fish in the 3 – 4.5 lb ranges in one hole (the one in the photo above) without ever switching holes. That’s some mighty good fishing!

So you started it off with a MONSTER blue gill episode!?!?!?

Thank you for the replies. I already have a nice hub shelter, but was looking for something a little easier to relocate. I think I will still get the Lodge, but will look for something lighter for those trips that have restricted ATV access. Again, thank you for all of the replies.

I purchased Autochart Pro about a month ago and love everything about it. I fish a pretty big lake that hasn’t been mapped yet and this software is a life saver. If you aren’t computer/tech savvy, you may have problems initially. I highly recommend reading through the bbc boards (link posted above).

I take my laptop with me on the lake in a dry bag. When done recording an area, it takes 4 steps (upload, map, create map, update card) and I have my map up and running within 3 minutes. It really is that easy once you get the hang of it.

We would like to respond to our loyal customers and provide additional information about recent posts on social media regarding a monetary donation to a local animal care organization. Our post inaccurately stated that a donation was made to The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Moreover, the post itself was inappropriate under the circumstances.

Family members of an employee who recently passed away requested that, in lieu of flowers, co-workers donate funds to the Humane Association of Northwestern Rhode Island, a local association founded in 1978 to solve community issues primarily related to stray cats. They are not affiliated with HSUS as the posts incorrectly stated.

The money is not a corporate donation, but a collection of personal contributions from employees with the intent of remembering a beloved co-worker. While our intentions were good, the use of corporate social channels under these circumstances was inappropriate.

Muck Boots has a heritage of respect for the outdoors and for nature. We apologize for the anger and confusion the posts have caused and have removed them from our social channels.

Looks like alot of people burned and destroyed their boots for no reason. Unless this is a cover up…

Doesn’t everyone pee in the back yard?

I was raised in the country but now live in a nice neighborhood in town. Every night I take the dog out before bed and pee in the back yard. Alot of nights I catch myself staring up into the sky at the stars like I used to as a kid. I miss the country.

I basically want it for home protection, some target, probably won’t carry much. How is the Ruger LC9?

My sister carries an LC9 and seems to like it. For a home defense and target pistol, it leaves a little to be desired. For starters, its a small pistol with a short sight radius. This will make it harder to keep shots on target, especially at 20’+. With a loaded mag and 1 in the chamber, you can carry 8 rounds in the LC9. At the range, you will spend more time reloading this gun than shooting it.

If I were looking for a target/home defense 9mm pistol, I would focus on a Glock or S&W. They are economically priced, field proven and are tough as nails. You can really find some great prices on these pistols if you don’t mind buying a used pistol.

I have a Remington 870 in the bedroom closet and a Kimber TLE-RL2 .45 that I keep in a lock box in my nightstand for home defense. I carry the Kimber on occasion, but it is heavy. My main carry pistol is a Sig P938. I DON’T leave my home without it. It is very light and concealable, yet extremely accurate and dependable. It also has a price tag that starts around $750 new, but quality isn’t free. If you are going for home defense, you can’t beat a pump shotgun. When your adrenaline is pumping, a gun that doesn’t need a marksmans aim can and will be a life saver.

When buying a pistol, another thing to ask yourself is how many rounds does the gun need to hold? If you are using it for home defense or a range gun, you probably want a double stacked magazine. This will allow you more rounds (usually anywhere from 10-24+) but will be a bit thicker and bulkier. If you want a carry pistol, a single stacked magazine is much easier to conceal. I agree with many of the posters above in that you should definitely go shoot as many pistols as possible before making your purchase.

One last thing if you are going to be carrying concealed. A high quality concealed carry holster is worth 100x its weight in gold. If you go the cheap route, you will end up spending more on different holsters that never fit or feel right. I recommend both Crossbread and Comp-Tac inside the waistband holsters. I have had great results with both. Good luck and congrats on your future purchase!

Thats real funny, Mr. Hunke. You all were just talking about how every kid is a blessing to this so called “great world”. How is it a blessing that I dont have a kid? If they were all actually a blessing, you should wish that I have a few of those little brats.

Because kids that have a father or mother that have your views on this world usually end up completely screwed up. I’m glad for the child that you aren’t a parent. It would deserve much better than you.

Thats why its just easiest to not have kids. I mean they never listen, cost a lot of money, and all you do is worry about what theyre doing and where. I dont understand why so many people choose to have them. I guess most kids born these days are all accidents from stupid teenagers that dont know how to wrap their own tool. Some people need to be castrated.

This doesn’t sound like sarcasm, but I’ve been wrong once before. If not, that’s one of the most idiotic posts I’ve ever seen on this site. The fact that you don’t have kids is a blessing to this world.

My wife has made alot of rules for our household. Unfortunately, she never tells me these rules until I have broken them, therefore I am always in trouble. Wouldn’t want it any other way though.

Ok, so I feel like a huge dumb arse. I thought the 10FL in the line menu stood for 10 Floro, not 10 FireLine. I’m sorry for all the confusion.

By adding 10%, you’re saying it will dive 10% deeper using braid with the same amount of line out, correct?

suffix #10 is .008 diameter as is fireline #10. However, suffix #20 is still only .009.

The mono equivelant #10 on troll data is .014 diameter.

Berkley fire to mono conversion is then .006. Since your difference in fireline vs #20 suffix is .001, in comparison that is 16.6% of the difference between Berkley fireline and Berkley mono.

So for a given feet back on the chart, find the difference in depth between #10 mono and #10 fireline. Than take 16.6% of that and that is how much higher your #20 suffix will ride.

your difference in .008 and .009 going from #10 to #20 is minimal.

Thanks for the info. My problem is that my device isn’t showing any options for #10 Fireline. I don’t know if it just hasn’t updated or if this is normal. I’m using an android device and downloaded the app yesterday. If I had a #10 Fireline option, I could easily figure this out.

If you soak your crawlers in gasoline for a day or two, I bet the sheepies will stay off! On a more serious and depressing note, there is no way to keep them off.

Our lake is really clear and at night this time of year I use the electric motor with about 100′ of line out to a floating orange and gold original rap with a few splitshots, deadly.

When running this rig, how far in front of the rapala do you run the split shots? Also, are you trying to get the rapala to tick off the bottom (if weedless) or are you running a foot or 2 off the bottom?

I picked up a spool of P-line today. Hopefully that will solve the problem. One thing I did notice when tying a few leaders was the stretch in the P-line. I could actually feel it stretch when pulling on it. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I will give it a shot. Thanks for all the info IDO, you’re a wealth of wisdom!

I have only been on one chartered trip and it was for salmon out of Kenosha. The 1st day we caught a nice bag of fish and gave the captain and 1st mate $50 each. The 2nd day was rough and rained the whole time. The other 3 members of my party got sick due the huge waves. The captain AND FM went well out of their way to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. They also gave them some drops to put behind their ears that helped their sea sickness. We didn’t end up catching anything on the 2nd day, but the captain and FM worked their tails off trying. We gave them each $100 for their efforts that day.

So, like everyone else said, don’t base your tips just off of what you catch.

Just another thought – how many acre lake is it? can it theoretically divided into multiple “sub-lakes” that feature distinct habitat differences? You may be very well into finding different schools of fish. One of the lakes I guide on is like that. One lake, but the characteristics of it makes it easy to divide into 2 different lakes. Its common that I find water clarity, water temps, and habitat differences and the walleyes in each side of the lake can be on very distinct different patterns.

This makes alot of sense. It’s not a huge lake (i.e. LOTW) but big enough for this to be a possibility. Thanks for the replies

These pliers are only $8 and the best I have ever used. There is a serrated cutting edge that makes very clean cuts. You dont even have to apply tension to the line to make a perfectly clean cut. You can also lock them when they are closed so you dont have to worry about cutting holes in your pockets.

I kept my tank inside my shop with a high powered fan blowing on in all the time. 60 degrees or below seemed like the magic number for me when keeping chubs and larger shiners. If I kept my tank below 60, the die off was very minimal. Over 60 and the death rate increased.

I am not using a submersible this go around. During the summer, and even now, they generate alot of unwanted heat. Last summer I was adding a frozen gallon jug of ice 3 times a day to keep the water temp below 60 degrees. This was after replacing 1/3 of the water everyday.
