    Stu,

Wondering if you have had any luck with the downriggers this spring? I can’t make it on the 25th, but I have an open seat for you if you would like to DR this weekend (or anytime this summer). You sent me a PM a couple years ago and I made a resolution to contact you and share some info. Let me know if you are interested.

I will never fish from an uninsulated house again. I bought one of the first Norpac houses built by Canvas Craft. I sleep in this house. No more frozen canvas…no more water dripping on my head. It has been the best investment I have made for icefishing. I own a large otter sled to use as a home base and a medium sled for roaming the lake.

Canvas Craft in Rogers has them. I have had to replace some of mine.

First went down to that area in 1998 after the tornadoes in St. Peter (work). Did well trolling shad raps in 8-11 feet for walleyes. When that bite died down – moved out to 25-28′ with downriggers and husky jerks and caught walleyes and big crappies. Weed edges are key in shallow water. Downriggers are great for basin fish. You could also use leadcore if you don’t have access to riggers. The key is to cover water until you find fish. It has worked well for me the last 12 years in the summer months.

“The book “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls is about a boy named Billy who saves up his money to buy two hunting hounds. When he gets enough money he goes to town on foot to buy them, a girl and a boy. Little Ann has the brains and Old Dan has the strength.”

I think Little Ann would be my choice.
