Sorry for the tangent, but I thought Beckman quit making nets. Am I wrong, or did they start up again?

    Back in business last year.

Unless you have a guaranteed plowed spot, I wouldn’t even bother. Most resorts closing their roads tomorrow temporarily and many don’t allow wheelhouses now even. It’s a struggle to fish even with a snowmobile and portable. Slush is starting to derail things even further.

Ditch the short rod and go 6’10-7’2ml. Once you do you won’t go back. Keep in mind that for $250 you could have a builder make you a really nice rod that easily rivals $300+ manufactured ones.

Massive drifts and slush. I’d contact resorts to see about plowing a spot because they are working overtime right now trying to fix roads and everything.

I actually really like it. Switched all mine over to it this year. Strong and seems to shed water well.

I’d stay away from a fast tip especially if you’re using a super line. It’s nice having the rod in the holder and having a fish be able to hit that spinner and put a bit of bend in the rod before it feels any resistance. Keeps them pinned better as well. Scheels walleye series 7’ medium-moderate baitcasting setup with a reel with a flipping switch and 15-20lb fireline or braid of your choosing. Can’t go wrong. You definitely could toss a line counter on and double duty as a long-lining setup for cranks too.

If they would just plow through they would be done in early may late april.

Then some indidvudals on here would say “kids these days get out of school early! We used to go to July!”

Chris Stanton is correct. Makes a lot of cool designs and handles

Gill, a couple snow days isn’t going to make or break students. Let them enjoy it a bit. Never seen such backlash about the topic before tbh

I would argue that I get more interference with my marcum and humminbird FROM vexilars than the other way around tbh. Frankly most times any of the new vexilars and marcums work just fine together. Not sure what the hate is about though?

Make sure to match the rod to the lure and not the fish. Biggest mistake I see. If you’re running 1/16th-3/16th spoons, pick a JT gold digger, Thorne bros perch sweetheart, or a TUCR Precision. 1/4th and up pick a jt black reign, Thorne bros walleye sweetheart or tucr PP or Commander

BtW, anyone see the St Croix Custom Ice series on sale yet? I want try some without busting into my Livescope fund. rotflol

No you don’t…. “tubular blanks” belong in a boat, not on the ice.

    Shatter City

I heard the exact same thing.

Received a Precision as a Christmas gift… Now for the reel? What all do you recommend? I’d prefer one that I can purchase at Scheel’s because I have some money to spend there….

Drop the coin and go with a size 500 Sedona, Sahara, or NASCI from shimano. Available at Scheels and won’t regret them. They’ll last a lifetime too. Would also say go to a 32” or 34” if you have the option

JT no doubt if you want them to pin themselves. Never heard that durability issue and I know MANY people with them. Could be true could be false I guess just never heard it myself. Also 36” isn’t absurdly long with a deadstick rod that’s sitting in a holder anyway. If you went the TUCR route I’d still say go 34-36 anyway.

They did start selling size 500 Sedonas again FWIW

Was disappointed in the Northland spoons too. I’ll give the lindy ones a shot this year for sure.

What size mfgs are you looking for? There are some local companies frequently on the forum that would be a good fit. Limit Creek, Tuned Up Custom Rods, JT Custom Rods, etc.

JT and Limit Creek don’t make any products in the US. All rods are imported from China.

Would probably fact-check before you comment in general. Would be easy for JT to outsource that labor to China but it’s all here.

Hate to hijack the thread but keep in mind that avids are like $60 if I recall which puts you $30ish dollars away from a custom ice rod. If you want to stay on st Croix great, but I sincerely doubt you’d dislike a jt, tucr, or Thorne

JT customs makes a new 8’ trolling rod for $220 now designed for this it sounds like.

“For years elite caliber anglers have asked for a high end trolling rod design to better read the action of a trolling presentation while enjoying the qualities of a rod engineered for absolute precision. Now that piece of grass on the back hook can be detected to ensure your running clean and effectively.”

You’re honestly claiming that it’s possible to detect a piece of grass on the rear hook of a crank with these rods while trolling leadcore?

Relax, I never said I used one. Noticed a quality rod company putting out a high quality trolling rod and assuming it would fit the bill.

Like others have said, its a combination of preventing the head from hitting the boat and the stress of the motor bouncing and flexing unnecessarily. Great piece of mind for ~$50 especially on big water. Less concerned about unintentional deployment but clearly it’s happened to some of these guys so

Hate to use the term “click bait” but essentially this is what it is. Could go on YouTube to find a video if I wanted… come here to read threads others post.

I would suggest looking up Chris Stanton on Facebook. He wrote an app that does exactly what your asking for and is also very knowledgeable. Chris is a great guy and I know that he is willing to help people out and wants to help grow the rod building community. He does wrap rods for himself, DH Customs and also works with MudHole. This is a creaditable source!

I actually used his guide for a 32” dh Gill seekr. Great resource. Wish provided more blanks but he obviously can’t do them all.

put all 4 guides as they recommended for spacing and it seems fine. I think you could do 5 but it would probably just weigh it down a bit more and i want that tip to be light. Looks great

IMO, the Helix gives you the most value per dollar spent.

I picked one up towards the end of the season, so I can’t speak the long-term durability. But, the split screen function with flasher/2D sonar/GPS/sonar zoom/etc is lights out. The display is crystal clear and target separation appeared no differently than other brands I’ve owned (been a marcum guy for years). Battery life is very good. An underrated feature is having the time displayed on the screen. As a guy that’s always used your typical flasher, I’ve never had that….definitely a phone saver.

The things that really seals the deal for me is the GPS and the ability to transition to my boat seamlessly. It’s like a 2 for 1. Can’t wait to get out this summer and autochart my favorite hard water spots.

Honestly, if you are using it for a flasher and flasher only, lx-7 is the Better pick hands down.

I reel left handed with spinning reel and casting. Cast using right with each. I don’t understand reeling righty with a casting. Not sure where I heard it but they said it makes more sense to use the right (or vice verse with other dominant hand) to handle the rod and I think that makes more sense.
