i fail to see how a no bait restriction takes away an opportunity for a kid to fish. he can fish, just not with bait. throw a panther martin on, or a yarn egg, or a wooly bugger. the kids still has the same opportunity to fish, and catch fish. this argument that no bait hurts kids has no merit, and it’s populist rhetoric at it’s worst( and best). give it a rest, please.

it’s still up to the parent to get over their issue with the regulation, suck it up, and teach their kid another way to fish. kids are just happy their outdoors and you’re spending time with them.

regs don’t keep kids from getting involved. bad parents are the problem. i put wooly buggers with a little weight on my kids zebcos, and they catch trout just fine.

at least half of the “fly fishers” on the board that you keep begging to be unbanned from, Mark, are fine with allowing bait fishing on some streams in order to keep folks from having a hissy fit. As long as it ain’t slack-lining chub tails in c&r water that is…

The whole thing irritates me. Hand select 12 or so people that have to answer to no one,and give them millions of dollars of our money. You wouldn’t think there might be some pet projects do you?
These are things that need to be legislated. That is what they are elected for.
The spineless politicians can not make any hard decisions.

seriously? there is so much legislative red tape to jump thorugh it makes my head hurt. And we have to be 100% transparent with how we spend the money. No pet projects either. The DNR is now 100% in charge of deciding what streams are priority, not TU. We are basically just workers now. and that is fine with me. The Lessard committee is made up of politicians, citizens, and scientists, who rate projects on their merit, and how they will be of benefit to MN outdoorsfolk. IF deemed good, that proposal then goes on to approval to the house and senate.

Thanks D.A. Maybe Josh et al. can stop calling me a poacher and we can bury the hatchet with a round of boilermakers.

that’s only going to happen when you realize and admit that the folks filling you with lies and misinformation are not in your best interest.

flyfisherman wouldn’t have the crick to themselves. they’d be sharing it with anyone who wants to fish artificials;jigs, spinners, rapalas, plastic worms, etc…

you are purposefully misrepresenting the facts here, Scudly. If you have an agenda, which it seems you do, then you are not giving it any credibility by lying and twisting the facts to suit your needs.

TU may have some issues, especially nationally. But the local chapters work their butts off, and usually don’t agree with what national tries to tell them. For you guys to imply that TU uses state dollars to create flyfishing only areas is a flat out lie, and you know it. Your actions are irrseponsible and unethical.

The guy who said it was a shame that DNR commish jobs are appointments is spot on. The commish should answer to no one, other than science. And because of this we let the barrom biologists like yourself propose what regs should be, based on social issues like grandpa fishing with jr, instead of on science and what is best for the stream. I get tired off reading all of your shameful rhetoric, that is based on a hate for TU and some of its members. But the funny thing is your actions seem to show that you are willing to cut off your nose, just to spite your face. You would be liked and respected a bit more if you thought for yourself instead of listening to the likes of Kerr and th [/list] s WCC guy. It’s time to grow up and stop acting like their puppet, Mark.

in repsonse to Fred’s comment; I couldn’t agree more. TU is not a fishing club. It’s a conservation club. If a stream has slot regs that promote harvesting of fish, then TU suports it. TU doesn’t care how folks fish either, we only care that it’s done legally. Many chapters are now including more spinning gear in their raffles and door prizes as well. It’s the rich, snobby national guys that make the deals with Orvis and flyfishing advertisers, the local chapters are just hardworking guys like anyone else.
