I believe you are referring to Marv Miller. One of the greats from the river. Fished in the 70,71′ classics.

interesting read, as i like the history of local fisherman. I never heard of Jim Lent, so i did an angler search on bassmaster, and i see he never fished a classic but 4 tourneys from 78-83 timeframe(not to disscredit any of his accomplishments). Maybe you mixed the two of us up for classic appearances.Hopefully i will have as decorated past as the fore mentioned in the article.
looks like about 25 years of river knowledge spilled out on the web!
Hopefully you still have my good luck items! Go show em what the federation guys can do! Any just try not to get AWE struck, it’s tough to do once you pull into that stadium. Shoot me a call when you get a chance.
i think the helicopter topwater bite has been red hot! see ya there slop
i thought everyone was bending they’re own hooks. I think the eye adaptors went out in the 80’s with Hawg Jaw jigs- you old guys may remember these! Anyway, proper heat is the key to success in pouring jigs. If you have breakage on a hook that was bent by yourself, it was either bent at to low of temp, or cooled to rapidly. And actually, the “scum” on top of the lead is some particulate but mostly the lead is breaking down it’s chemical make-up from too high of heat. Parafin wax is also a good flow agent to add to the lead but be careful and do it outside in a well ventilated area. Hope this helps.
C’mon…don’t give the dude that much credit. Jerkbaits in the Spring…not exactly brain surgery!
So, how did that brain surgury go last night???
geez, slop must be turning a new leaf- i seen him picking up a couple spools of sugoi this weekend!
definately the best flouro out there as i’ve tried about 90% of them. i would recommend the casting brand of sugoi vs. the clear as it casts better as the name imply’s. 16# is the cat’s a?>. As we all know, flouro is denser than water, hence it sinks. UV doesn’t break sugoi down, nor does it absorb water- which all mono and co-polymers do- which wrecks the integerity of the line. SO, i have left reels spooled up for a couple years at a time with no degridation of performance. And, performance is worth the price to me, in strength, casting distance, sensitivity.

Maybe Champman can tell us what the thinks – having fished the classic last year. Would you have rather been in your Champion?
it didn’t matter to me either way, and we all had to play by the same rules- 10 rods, two tackle bags. it comes down to who is best mentally prepared, and being able to adapt to any situation the quickest. the boat doesn’t catch the fish, well, maybe i’ve said that before
i think the biggest varible is the d/o content of the water your fishing in the summer. These fish like any fish seek the water with a d/o better than 6ppm. The hottest water we normally see here on the river is about 85 degrees over a period of time- it may spike to 90 for a couple days but usually doesn’t last. Some places with current may not have desireable d/o levels to sustain life. Some of the backwaters stratify and you’ll see a thermocline, which the fish may be just above that line- find structure at that line+bait= fish

Interesting point, ModdBoss…
I have the 15 Amp per batter charger with the built in “charge as you run” feature…
Anyone in this situation with Optima?
D-Nort – you always have something to say with guys you know… Anything?
i want to know what kind of charger you have reel guy, because i’ve never seen one advertised more than 10 amps per bank?! Wouldn’t your power cord melt right off the wall?
gettin to old to hang around the kiddie pool know, skeet! Have a good one!
Denny-
wf99, maybe you should have spent some pre-TAX dollars last year on a new and better system! Least you could have wrote it off, heh…..heh..heh
congrats to jeff and sam ritter & co. for the purchase of team supreme. I wish all the best of luck to you and hope that you guys prosper.
Respectfully,
Jimmy Johnson
i seen the aftermath of the accident and thought someone will be hurt out of that one! Didn’t see the suburban but i saw your truck which didn’t look to good after that happened. sorry to here that
believe it or not d-nort we were “sight fishing” these fish in 29fow. Now think back to spring when your sight fishing and being suprised at how big a fish looks once it’s out of the water compared to when it’s in the water in three fow- now imagine 29fow. These 5#’s looked like 12″ers down there. But none the less, i learned something that i will use forever- and that is how critical that transistion line is for these smallies at this time of the year.
this is doable aanywhere they have the food source, wintering area and flats to feed on. These fish were tricked into biting jerkbaits and tubes over 30fow. the biggest hurdle is braving the elements!
we’re all alone in the group of guys i go with. Seems that people put the boats away too quick! I think i still have another trip in me yet. Something about catching 35+ 5 pounders in a weekend does something to a guys head- like make you want to go and break ice at the landing just to get out! A friend got an 8 pound 14 ounce smallie last year during this next weekend
I have a couple numbers that people can contact if they feel they are owed money from diversified financial or team supreme: John Burke @ 630-762-9081 or Andrew Stoltmann @ 877-332-4244.
ya we had 21.6 six fish tourney and almost a 5 # smallie, but it was a shame that it didn’t take big fish! got beat with a largie that was 5.0#
yes, both the one on the 10th and the one the 24th. Bones i guess got a check back also.
I’LL be over there in a couple weeks hopeing for that wintering bite!
I’m guessing not, i just got back about 2K worth of winnings due to NSF! Now, don’t the winnings come out of the tourney sign up monies? That shouldn’t even be an issue of NSF unless he was robbing peter to pay paul! I’m very upset with the way the company has treated fellow outdoorsman- which i thought would never be an issue. I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE RECIEVED CHECKS BACK DUE TO NSF FROM TEAM SUPREME LATELY AS WE NEED TO UNIFORM INTO A TEAM TO COMBAT THIS ISSUE!!!!!!
as soon as i get the right deal, i’m moving on seriously. But until then, suffer my friends!
