I just went thru this decision about 2 mths ago.with the Lund Explorer I purchased I had my choice of a 115 Merc 4 stroke or a 115 yam 4 stroke. I really wanted the yam motor-however the merc had 1000 off in rebates so I went that route. I have been out about 7 times and so far am VERY happy with it. From day 1 (which was 28 degrees) that motor has popped off on first try everytime. Not cold-blooded at all. Merc and Yam are the exact same powerhead..its just the injection parts that are different in them. Either way I dont think you can go wrong..check to see which as specials/rebates going on them..

March 3, 2006 at 5:29 pm #426336I thought buying a boat was supposed to be fun but the enjoyment can be taken out of it in a hurray when u cant find what you are looking for or if you find what youre looking for at a price that you are not willing to pay.
March 3, 2006 at 5:24 pm #426331Im looking for a 17 ft Lund with a 115 4-stroke or bigger on it ..either Mr Pike or an Explorer, or even a Pro Angler with single console. I found couple Pro Anglers -02 and 03 but they are looking for 14000 for them? 3000 more and I can get a new one I guess that s what Im going to have to do unless something comes up here..the fish arent going to stop biting cuz I dont have a boat yet?
March 3, 2006 at 5:22 pm #426328I am really leaning that way ..Im looking at the 2005 Explorer ..wtail

February 28, 2006 at 2:22 am #425068Well I made the trek to St Cloud this morning and looked at a boat from a private party that I was disappointed with ..then went over to the CP store in St Cloud and boat I was dealing on there is not for sale..other party decided not to sell and make trade and as of this afternoon had still not pu boat from their lot..I am having a hard time finding anything used that will fit the bill for me so am considering a new one ..however..new ones (from CP anyway) have 115 johnson 4 strokes on them and thats really not my first choice?? I am still looking and trying to stay positive..also got a speeding ticket on way to st cloud..WONDERFUL day!!!
February 27, 2006 at 2:07 am #424779Personally, I shoot a matthews and have had huge success because of the speed, consistency, and how flat it shoots. I shoot thunderhead 100 grain broadheads and use only 1 pin for my yardage from 5-25 yards..thats very nice. Also, Matthews is made in Wisconsin (Hoyt made in Utah). Remember, make sure you buy from a dealer who is available during the BUSY fall season and knows your bow so that if something happens during the hunting season-you will get a quick fix and be back out in the woods.
WTAILFebruary 27, 2006 at 12:31 am #424727Thats what I wanted to hear ..I am going to look and poss by a 17 ft lund w/115 yam 4-stroke on it and other party says they have about 100-120 hrs on it ..its an 03? Is there anything I should be looking for tomorrow when I am looking over the motor (other than scag/prop)? wtail

February 26, 2006 at 4:42 pm #424651Ok ..thanks for your input ..I dont know if its something I should get into or not .feels wierd buying a boat and not getting the title and praying that it comes to me.
February 24, 2006 at 2:43 am #423917Ive got couple buddies I fish with regularly that have had good luck there and I myself bought a boat from a diff CP store 3 years ago and had good service at the WI store – I guess this was just not meant to be ..Im hoping that I will find what Im looking for soon.
February 24, 2006 at 2:39 am #423913Nope..they still dont have the boat and whats more the store manager GUARANTEED me this afternoon that he would call me today and let me now whether or not guy came in with title and guess what-no return call yet again..i guess some things happen for a reason!
February 23, 2006 at 6:20 pm #423742Hey guys..I just got off phone with Tom Hines the store manager who really talked me through the problems and did apologize for all the miscommunication. Owner of boat I wanted to buy never showed up for his appt to bring in the title. Still hasnt showed up. Apparently this info did not get to the sales staff. I do not agree with the way I was kept out of the loop and messages were not returned to me but overall Tom did do a good job of clearing some things up. So I guess its time to start looking for a boat again..them female walleyes will soon be hitting the shallows and I will be there one way or another! wail
February 23, 2006 at 4:34 am #423517Well that same salesman also told me he would call me back today and set the time/date to bring it to me next week and he never called back. I will keep you guys posted on what happens ..thanks so much for your feedback..(ps..isnt buying a boat supposed to be fun?) wtail
February 23, 2006 at 3:32 am #423487I talked to the store manager at st cloud today and he apologized up and down and said he would personally drive the boat down to wisconsin and del it to me sometime next week (who knows) and that his sales person should have never set up times ..apparently whoever owned the boat traded up from a 17 ft lund to an 18′ fisherman but him and his wife still have a lein on boat and do not have the title clear..how can crystal pierz make this deal?
February 23, 2006 at 3:30 am #423483St Cloud..its about everything I was looking for and I got em down to a price that I almost believe they are trying to get out of. I never saw a place try to NOT sell something so much..
