Don’t know bout twin, i wouldnt doubt the geese kept it open, we hunted that area a few times and they always are roosting in the south end also lot of eyes got caught out there this summer. I fished meadow last year and it was slow. Marked alot at island yesterday but couldn’t get anything to commit. Threw the tackle box at end.
December 22, 2015 at 12:49 am #1586443Yeah I was just out today 5 to 7 on the smaller bodies of water. I heard Jamestown reservoir had some open water still so I would stay away from anything with current and bring a spud bar never know
December 15, 2015 at 10:11 am #1584868Island is a pretty young lake as I would describe it, had some good eaters in there tho. Fished it twice last year and caught a couple 13 inchers. How was the water clarity? Last year when I was out there a guy could see the bottom crystal clear
December 15, 2015 at 10:00 am #1584861Always great to hear of new fisherman. If you are getting started and are looking to get in crappies I would invest 150 dollars in a fl 8 or something along those lines because the crappies will suspense over deep water typically and they can vary greatly in depth Also I would invest in a power auger because you will want to drill alot holes in search of those schools. I would look on Craigslist you can find a good one for 150 bucks. Target deep basins with spoons or tungsten kids with waxies. Good luck and tight lines
December 15, 2015 at 9:46 am #1584852Yeah I heard there was some ice on island but I’ve been fishing open water for the past few weeks been doing alright. I wonder how the ice is at astabula, with that current running threw I want to make sure it’s good ice all the way threw
Keep in touch!December 14, 2015 at 6:40 pm #1584674Depends on water clarity, which varies lake to lake. Shallow lakes typically are tough fishing during the day due to the fact of how clear they become during early ice. This year it could be different however if the wind was blowing during ice up, this will dirty up the water and you will be able to see the difference. Typically you will have a 45 minute window where the eyes will become active at either dusk or dawn. On shallow lakes instead of sliding up on top of the break in 3 feet of water they may slide along with it in search of food if they are active. Punch holes in the early afternoon, Use aggressive lures that rattle. Like buckshot’s or ripping raps etc the goal is to mark fish if you have electronics, and sit on the spot that you mark fish jig aggressively and have a dead stick next to you and wait till the window happens. Have extra rods ready and stay organized and be efficient due to the short time you may have at catching theses fish. Also i do not know how many rods you are allowed to fish with in your area, but my area I can have 4 so I would set 2 tip-ups outside the house, one along the break and one in shallow to get better understanding of how the walleyes are moving. Good Luck and Tight Line
